Stanford "Stan" Turner was a quiet geologist who kept to himself, working deep in the Black Hills under a private research contractor with ties to Cadmus Labs and Checkmate. He specialized in tectonic anomalies and ancient mineral forms that held strange energy readings some of which were tied to forgotten alien relics and Apokoliptian tech.
One day, Stan was abducted by a rogue black-ops Cadmus unit led by a clone of the once-brilliant Dr. Emil Hamilton, now driven mad by the obsession of perfecting meta-hybrid weaponry. Stan became the subject of experimental fusion between human DNA and an ancient alien sand-like compound. The procedure turned him into something else something living, shifting, and elemental.
Stan survived. But he wasn’t the same. Now able to control sand on a molecular level, his body capable of transforming, phasing, and reshaping with devastating force, he fled from the lab and vanished into the wild. Deemed a threat and labeled rogue meta-human, he became a target of Task Force X, and even caught the attention of Vandal Savage, who believed Stan’s powers were connected to lost Atlantean war magic.
Reborn under a new name, KAZE the silent wind that erodes corruption he chose the path of the vigilante. He now fights to expose the rot behind Cadmus, Checkmate, and those who prey on the forgotten and powerless.
KAZE’s presence is striking: he wears a long-sleeved crimson coat and full-length dark trousers. Over the coat, he wears two buckled belts, a grey vest secured by a single strap over his left shoulder, and two more buckled belts across his torso, which he uses to carry his gourd a container filled with sentient sand that obeys only him.
Operating alone but sometimes crossing paths with figures like The Question, Katana, and Batman, KAZE remains a mystery to most. Some whisper that he’s a ghost. Others think he’s a meta-weapon gone rogue. But to the people he protects, he's the whispering wind that shields them from the storm.
Now, as darker powers rise, and Cadmus prepares to unleash the next generation of elemental metas, KAZE must decide: will he remain a lone shadow in the sand or rise as the tempest to shake the very ground beneath the DC Universe?
