Chapter 19 - No One Can Replace You

The awkwardness was building inside the cabin as Kaito and Maki were finally face to face. Even though they felt the need to express themselves wholeheartedly to each other, not a single word came out of their mouths. Once already in the spot, they both felt this was on a whole new level, neither of them could bring themselves to break the silence surrounding the couple. This situation continued for five minutes or so until one of them finally spoke.

"Do you… feel something for Kirumi?" Maki's face went bright red and tears were almost going to drop out of her eyes, just like a water dam about to explode. "If! You do I won't get in your way… Just answer me, please…" Maki's eyes could not stop staring at the floor. She had the courage to ask, but not to look into his eyes.

"Of course not! This is what I've been meaning to explain this whole time" Kaito immediately replied trying to calm down whatever thoughts were fogging Maki's mind. "Do you really think I will leave you for another girl?" Maki's eyes brighten as he heard Kaito's words, the worries her head was holding were slowly fading away, one by one. "Maki, I want you, no one could ever replace you!"

"Huh?" Maki turned around to hide his embarrassed face, as she put her hands in her face to not let Kaito catch a glimpse of her. She noticed her mouth curled up in a smile, unconsciously. Her body was reacting out instinct, she did not know why all of this was happening to her. Why did her chest felt so tight?

Once Kaito saw Maki's reaction, he thought that maybe he said too much, too quickly. "Agh, I should've not said all of that, it's obvious that Maki will get embarrassed out of that!" Kaito thought to himself as he scolded himself over and over again. "What if she thinks what I said is weird?! Maybe she doesn't feel the same way as I do… AGH Did I just screw this up!?!?" But suddenly he realized, that this was no time to back out on his words, he finally expressed everything he wanted to say to Maki, from here on he needed to go forward.

"Maki if I made you mad in some way, I'm really sorry about it" Maki turned around to see Kaito bowing in front of her.

"Would you mind explaining everything for me? Let's say that Kirumi's explanation had a lot of misunderstandings" Maki asked with a soft voice, still trying to process what was going through her mind, through her heart.

"Of course, Maki-roll," Kaito said while a grin full of relief was revealed in his face as he straightens up from his bow. Both of them sat down in the chairs arranged along with the table, for what they thought to be a couple of minutes, which slowly turned into hours. By the time they realized, their conversation when off track once Kaito explained all his situation with Kirumi. They chatted about some past experiences and how their tutoring sessions were going.

The sun was almost setting on the horizon, painting the sky with a yellowish almost orange color, they both realized it was about time they headed to bed. Maki and Kaito stopped their conversation for the day and Maki opened the front door when an interesting envelope on the floor caught her attention. She picked it up and just found one piece of handwriting on it reading "From: Kirumi Tojo".

Maki opened it while still standing in the doorway, it was indeed a letter directed towards her and Kaito, Maki started reading, without Kaito noticing.

"Maki, Momota-san. In hopes that you are reading this letter, I wanted to notify you that I already made some arrangements with Gonta-kun to sleep in his cabin in Maki's stead. Please do not let the tutors know about our whereabouts for tonight. Please feel free to occupy my bed if you desire too. Sincerely, Kirumi Tojo."

Maki's head took a few moments to process what she just had read.

"Hmm…? Maki-roll? Are you okay? Why is your face red? Did you catch a cold or something?" Maki did not answer any of Kaito's questions, instead, she just handed him the letter and let him figure it out.

"Huuuh!?!?" When Kaito finished reading the letter he was left speechless with a bashful face, it was when he felt a small pull on his jacket sleeve.

"You don't mind if I stay the night here with you…?" Kaito had never seen this side of Maki before. It was a whole new attitude he had just discovered, which brought panic to him.

"GAH! WHAT DO I DO??" Kaito was surprised at Maki's proposal, he never expected her to make such a bold move. "Of course, I want to spend the night with her, but isn't this going to fast?" Kaito's thoughts started to jumble around his head. "Could it be…?" A sudden thought clouded Kaito's mind that could not be overlooked. "What if… this is not her first time…?" His forehead started to sweat as he avoided Maki's gaze. "That explains how she came up with this idea out of nowhere, but… does Maki really has that experience…? With what type of guy was he with…?" Kaito's mind was losing its logical and rational thinking. Maki's words made Kaito's brain crumble, since all of this, happened so suddenly. He didn't know how to react to such a situation. This was a first for him, but was it for Maki? These thoughts got a hold of Kaito.

"W, W, Why, Why is he not answering?!?!" Meanwhile, Maki's mind was filled with doubt and some regret started to kick in. "Maybe I was too bold?? Did I sound needy?!" Second thoughts invaded Maki since Kaito had already taken a fair amount of time to reply to her. "Why is he making all those faces?!" Kaito hadn't realized that his train of thoughts made him unconsciously shift between facial expressions. "AHH, Give me an answer already!" Maki's embarrassment transformed into uneasiness, she needed his answer, but he seemed to be lost in thought.

"Umm… Kaito…?" Maki tried to attract his attention. "Maybe… it wasn't the best idea it's okay if- "

"Maki, please, stay…" Kaito interrupted Maki before she backed down in her decision. He couldn't imagine being in the same situation twice, so he took this chance. Maki's eyes were brimming with happiness.

"Listen… this is my first time…, I haven't had slept with a girl before…" Kaito said.

"You…are not alone…It's my first time too…" With those words, Kaito's heart and mind calmed down. The clouds in his mind were nowhere to be found.
