Chapter 2 - Meeting a Benifactor

Abzul POV:

I cant believe it, not only am I a mage, I also have 3 elements. Lightning, Ice, Air! I take a few calming breaths and go back to the corner. As I work to overcome my excitement I look around the room, and my mood sours. Nearly every person here, people that I've grown up with, are glaring at me like I'm some sort of thief, like I stole the magic that was supposed to go to them or their children and kept it for myself.

That is how its always been I guess. The second someone else is having a better day than you, they become the enemy. "Now the Academy Mage will be back in 2 months to bring you 4 to the Velta Kingdoms Mage Academy. The kingdom pays for your tuition, clothing, food, and housing. That is unless you pay extra from your own pocket to have higher tier materials and housing." the village elder said, sadly looking at Abzul knowing he had no one to support him. "The 4 of you will meet here at dawn in exactly 60 days. From now until then I expect you to prepare and say your goodbyes. I am so proud to have 4 mages coming out of our Mountianbase Village this year and I truly expect greatness from each of you." After the elder said 60 days I stopped listening and started planning my next 2 months.

From my first memory until now I have always felt a need to climb the mountain our village sat at the base of, but the villagers are very superstitious and there was a legend that a dragon slept under the mountain. Ergo I couldn't climb the mountain because it would be dangerous. The thought of leaving and having not climbed the mountain that called to me in my dreams was a nightmare, a horrendous act that hurt to even think about. So I plotted and as I began my way back to the elders cabin I thought about how I would go about sneaking out of the village.

Lótanu POV:

For the first time in centuries I sensed another sentient life form approach me. There were many smally animals that lived on this mountain but none that were capable to cultivation. If I still had a heart beat it would be thumping in excitement at the prospect of not being alone anymore.

As the Human approached Lótanu's position He was able to sense more about the... child? A child was climbing his mountain alone? Lótanu's respect for the child grew knowing that not even adults would dare climb his mountain for fear of the unknown, for fear of him... This child, as Lótanu looked closer at his soul core, had just become a mage. What kind of mage was this little human boy? An augmentor, a conjurer? As Lótanu studied the boy he realized that the little human was somehow both an augmentor and a conjurer!

In all His millennia Lótanu had never seen or heard of such a thing happening. He decided right there that he would speak with this child. Once the boy had reached the summit, the distance taking around 9 days, Lótanu would speak to this human. Over the course of the 9 day trek Lótanu watched the habits of this peculiar human. This boy always, without fail, would look behind him towards the little village at the mountains base, with a look of hope, as if he hoped someone would come looking for him from said village. No one ever came. Each time he looked a little bit of the hope in his eyes would dissipate. By the time he had reached the top, the boys eyes held little to no hope, a hope that Lótanu could tell was, for someone to care enough about him to come after him. Pity. Lótanu felt pity and sympathy for this little boy as he knew what it meant to be abandoned and alone.

As the child reached the summit he looked around as if he expected to find something, something that would fill his eyes with hope once more. Just as Lótanu was about to speak to him, the boy broke down sobbing. "Why?!?! Why am I alone??? Why couldn't I have a family!?" the boy cried until he broke down into incomprehensible wails. Lótanu realized this kid was only 8 years old. No wonder he was so out of control of his emotions. He didn't have a family? Lótanu understood that feeling. He himself had been abandoned by his family as well. Realizing he could help this boy become not only strong but become happier Lótanu began to speak.

Abzul POV: Nobody cared? Nobody cared enough about me to follow me up the mountain?! I really am alone. ... ... ...

As I sit here sobbing, I hear a gentle voice but I cant tell what its saying. The voice slowly gets louder and I realize that it isnt an actual sound but something I was hearing in my head. "You dont have to be alone anymore. If you want I can be your friend, your family." a deep baritone resonated in his head. "My name is Lótanu, I know what it's like to be alone and powerless. If you accept my help you will never be alone again and you will have the strength to overcome all challenges. What is your name boy?" the words bounce inside my head. "Abzul is the name I was given by the elders of the village" I respond, out loud, trying to convey my respect for the being that is so powerful that it could speak directly to my mind and humble enough to care about some random child. "To gain my companionship, you will need to venture deep into the heart of this mountain. At the center you will find a stone chamber with a small red pool resting in the floor, to gain what I have promised you, you will need to fully submerge yourself in this pool and allow the pool to fully merge with your body. I warn you it will be agonizing and dangerous but if you survive you will be better because of it. What do you say Abzul? Will you take up my offer?"

Lótanu POV: I truly felt sympathy and pity for this Abzul. As he approached the mountain peak I was able to see his soul in more clarity, he had just awoken as a mage and was triple element aligned, as well as the terrifying property Abzul had as a conjurer and an augmentor, this child had the potential to become truly powerful, if given the right instruction. If he could he would help this child, who reminded him so much of his younger self, become great in this world of constant difficulty. He just hoped Abzul would accept his help, and that he wouldn't fall into the same dispares that Lótanu had. After several minutes of the child's obvious deliberation, Abzul declared that he would venture to the described location only if I would continue to speak with him and guide him on his way. I readily agreed, happy to for the first time in millenia have someone for company.
