Chapter 1096 - hh

Far away, in a different place and time a group of women sat around a table, sipping tea and exchanging stories.

And if you suspect this place was the Exitus Gate fortress, and the women were the wives of our great hero, you'd be right.

At the moment, all eyes were focused on Vela, now a Tier 3 goddess and a Legion Soldier of decent strength. But that wasn't the important part.

For Vela had a special connection with their husband, a soul link established by a unfathomable Power Word weapon.

Vela raised her eyes and nodded. "I am certain, sisters. He has ascended once more...and he's now in great pain, as if his soul is burning."

Lia frowned for a moment while clenching her hand on the pommel of her sword. Her oracular powers were highly restricted in this universe, and by the lack of clear information. Still, as little the nugget of information as they received from Vela, everything helped. "Two ascensions in 2 years? And he is fighting again, something so strong that he has to constantly employ his Cutting skill...it has to be goliths. He is fighting them right now." she deduced with the aid of her own oracle skill.

All eyes turned towards Lin, their Tier 4 smith and the current holder of a Power Word gun, one named Faith by their husband.

"Hmmm. There has to be a time deceleration effect on us, in this universe. A single ascension is not that extraordinary, not even for Pef. There are opportunities out there, rare plants or maybe ascension pills, formation arrays that collect qi and certainly strong enemies to defeat. But, another one? Faith has no idea what can do that, and so fast, except perhaps a Tier 8 god helping him, but that's highly improbable." the smith muttered with a confused voice.

Lia smiled gently into her tea cup. Her skill insisted on the most logic premise. Remove the impossible, and whatever was left was the truth. "Indeed. Improbable as it may be, don't forget who we married. I'd say the odds of him not seducing a Tier 8 goddess are lower than the opposite. He does like strong women."

Grins spread around the table, as every woman here recalled their precious memories of their husband.

"Why isn't he coming back for us? I want to fight beside him too, damn idiot." Xie muttered with a petulant voice, and took out a bottle of precious Godwine. She then took a gulp of wine and messily wiped her lips with the back of her Godbeast-skin glove.

Lia and Lin glanced at each other and shrugged in tandem.

"If he could have, Pef would have returned the next day. He obviously can't." Yuan concluded with a knowing glance towards their Oracle.

"Yes, obviously. Now, I have a theory why he was allowed to leave through the Exitus Gate, and none of us were." Lia mused with her eyes closed. "Pef has completed his Dao of Water, before he entered. None of us have, except Lin and her Smithing Dao."

The sister-wives turned toward their head sister. Lin sighed audibly and sipped some tea, while her weapon appeared on the table. "It's a good guess Lia, but Faith says there's something more. Pef had the glove."

"You have a Legion gun too! Aren't they even stronger?" Qin asked with a wondering voice.

Lady Lin tapped the Legion gun with a finger, no doubt exchanging information at a fast pace. "This might work. If the gate is a filter and not a prison lock, then any of us with the same qualifications should be able to cross. What else, Lia?"

The Oracle frowned while mentally listing all they knew of Pef's state before he left.

"Pef didn't have any people in his inner world. He didn't want to risk their lives, if he failed. Does that count?" Mia asked hesitantly.

The wives cursed in a chorus, as another clue had revealed itself.

"Good thinking, Mia!" Blossom encouraged her with grin.

The last wife, Aria stood up and gripped her Veridian Garden necklace. "I'll be back in a month. Just need to spread my inhabitants and deploy the Green regiment in a nearby galaxy. By that time I'll also have the Dao of Wood completed."

Without further words, the green-haired goddess Blinked away, and entered the voidworm tunnel that linked the Exitus station with the nearest galaxy.

Lady Lin coughed gently to draw the attention of the other sister-wives. "Yuan and Qin should be ready as well in a month. Lia, you find Commander Wong and make sure he is also ready."

Xie slumped in her chair, knowing she was too far away for this goal, at least in such a short time-frame. Both Mia and Blossom smiled awkwardly, as they weren't even considered for a gate deployment. Then again, someone did have to stay behind and look after their people.

Then Lady Lin cursed softly. "We must ask the devils too. And then, there's Nellie." she whispered with a glance towards Vela.

The former vestal elf sighed in response. "Nellie will not leave her father, not now while he is sick and dying. As for the devils...maybe Lasciel can be ready in time."

"Lasciel, huh? I'd say Lord Yamon would be a better candidate, if we're being honest." Lin muttered to herself, while going over potential allies to invite.

They haven't kept contact with the Archdemon, and Shia, the Ant Queen was busy colonizing a thousand galaxies for her ants. Pef had hoped a large number of ant soldiers will help the Legion in the wider verse, and thus he had tasked Shia with aggressive expansion and multiplication.

Lin personally doubted any amount of low level troops could make a difference, but the Ant Queen was happy, so there she goes.

And then, there was Lady Cellia who had departed in huff to explore the universe and discover herself. Sure, Artus kept her company along with his Arctic regiment, but they had no up-to-date knowledge of their cultivation achievements in the past millennia. Sparse reports of new galaxies and beast infestations being neutralized meant little without concrete details.

'Who do you think we should call?' Lin asked inward, knowing that Faith was always listening.

'Wixtal Xi seems quite important.' Faith answered as she appeared in Lin's inner world, now sporting short black hair and a metal armor instead of her original bald nun appearance.

"Isn't he only at Tier 2? Despite his golden aura, he is the weakest..." Lin muttered with some surprise.

The weapon's avatar just shook her head.

"Okay then. If you have faith in him, I'll send a qi transmission." Lin decided with a careless shrug.

"No need. Reason has heard us already. She will accelerate his training to make Wixtal ready, Dao of Wind and Tier 3 by next month. We do need to leave now if you want to save Cellia from her hubris. That spider nest has a Tier 4 beast deep below." Faith added with a faint smile.

"Another one? I swear I'm going to punch whoever runs this prison, right in their eyes!" Lin exclaimed in outrage as she rushed to intercept the next menace.

"Have faith" the Word Gun murmured to herself, while her user left the tunnel network and Blinked at speed towards their target.

Perhaps it wasn't fair to manipulate her user this way, but it was all for the best. Acting and reacting quickly and decisively would serve the user well during a real war, while the extra deposits of Red and Green Impure Jade would provide the weapon with more energy to deal with dangerous foes.

Sure, one had to take care not to impede the growth of their user, thus revealing all the information was counter-productive. Bits and pieces here and there would force the Captain to think for herself, to construct viable battleplans and then swiftly modify them as the battlefield changed.

None of the Legion Soldiers in this universe were truly ready for the horrors outside, from True Devils and Immortal Godbeasts, to corrupting plagues and goliths waves, plus the regular greed and pride of powerful cultivators.

They all sought to emulate Pef, and then join him in combat, ignoring the fact that the young Soldier was battling goliths out there, without his Legion armor or a Veritas Word gun.

Lin herself dismissed Wixtal Xi as being weak, although he was the only one around who stood a chance to fight a golith and live. But they will learn their folly, and soon enough.

"Damn it! I swear it hurts even worse now!" Pef complained as he sat in mid-void to heal and repair his injuries, mostly the electrocuted soul and the damaged mental maze.

The Blade Fairy smirked beside him, as she kept watch for any more goliths, while Pef cursed and regrew his eyes once more. "You wanted to be a big hero. It comes at a price." she observed with a teasing voice.

"Yeah, yeah. Just shut up, Sunny." Pef muttered while forcing himself not to cry. The Tribulation was so much painful now, as if mocking his new Elder God rank and his efforts to protect an entire universe, by inflicting even more pain on top of his combat injuries.

"Or what? You're going to drown me in tears?" the Blade Fairy mocked him carelessly, while fanning herself with a new Godbeast-feather fan.

He just couldn't get through the damn narcissist fairy. And glove kept asking for patience and humility!

Pef clenched his fist and opened his new eyes, then scanned around for potential enemies. The galaxy seemed clear, at least of goliths. The normal injustices and lawlessness kept going as usual, since nobody in the wider multi-verse cared too much about imposing the rule of law.

Those with power had it all, and those without...well. It was the same in Legion space, but at least they didn't have so much corruption or lack of laws.

Plus, promotion on the battlefield was encouraged and even necessary for Legion Soldiers.

"How many left?" he asked instead, glancing at the fairy with a frown.

"Three in the next galaxy over. And that's it. You murdered 65 goliths in 60 days. Even broke my own record!" the fairy acknowledged with a wide grin.

"Because you're lazy and just sip tea while your people die!" Pef countered with a tired voice. War was exhausting, not simply the big fights but cleaning up the aftermath as well.

"I do my part. See, I even resettled all the locals to new words, and eliminated the smaller infestations! And all while you mopped around and drank your own tears." The Blade Fairy said with a smile, then sipped more tea quite elegantly.

Pef sighed inward, and decided to listen to the glove and not punch the bitch, not yet anyway. He just pointed towards the next fight and was smoothly yanked away and deposited in the last galaxy infested with goliths.

Two of them appeared to be regular monsters, the ones called Red Menace by the glove. The third however, was the stronger variant, designated Orange Menace on his inner map.

The glove had a sense of humor, though rarely the right kind of humor.

"Keep the big one busy for an hour, if you will." Pef asked in a polite tone and then flashed into combat, hurling Voidswords and Voidcutters at the weaker goliths, while flaring his Dao Domains to obliterate the weaker beasts in his path.

The Blade Fairy sighed in a lazy mode, then casually swiped her red feather-fan at the last golith, gouging a hundred eyes and leaving thousands of deep gashes into its corrupted flesh.

Immediately, the bigger monster focused its attention on her, then retaliated with a swarm of golith stings and larger tentacles.

She kept sipping her tea without care, simply willing her invisible Voidswords to harm the monster, but not too much. Pef might cry again if she 'stole' his kill. Damn crybaby.

All around Pef, 3000 Avatars emerged to launch their own Voidcutters at the goliths, while an army of fused clones rushed ahead to bodily block the tentacles before they could restrict movement. Even so, clouds of golith stings flew from the two goliths engaged by Pef, and then converged without fail towards their human target, somehow ignoring the Avatars despite their identical appearance.

'I still can't mask whatever signature they use to lock down on me!' Pef complained inward, while the glove provided constant targeting data and danger warnings.

'Because you're weak. The General can do it, and many of her Captains too.' the glove answered in a careless tone, just as Pef's Lightning Domain engulfed everything for a million kilometers, burning through most of the incoming stings or at least reducing their targeting accuracy.

Another Blink, and then the Heaven's Tribulation bolts began crushing down onto Pef's Voidshield, thousands at a time.

The shield held for a few seconds, then wobbled and ruptured under the tremendous energy, and thus Pef just Blinked once more, right next to the nearest golith.

"It hurts you more than it hurts me, damn omelet!" Pef shouted out loud, mostly for comic relief. Thousands of golith eyes exploded from the Heaven's punishment, just as Pef own eyes exploded. Luckily for Pef, he only had two eyes so the damage was indeed much reduced.

The Avatars focused onto the injured golith, and intersecting Voidcutters minced the monster into thin slices, stopping the golith from escaping. Thousands of Voidswords continued the butcher work, while even more Void claws and palms ripped the remaining golith slices into much smaller bits until no more recovery was possible, and the golith died.

Pef regrew his eyes and turned towards the second golith, which seemed to hesitate now. "Oh no! You're not running away with my experience points!"

All his summoned forces converged on the Red Menace Two, some clones even grappling physically with any wiggling tentacle just to keep Pef's prey from running away.

Soon after, more Voidcutters struck the golith and began chopping out eyes and limbs, while a few Avatars rushed ahead and entered the wounds to prevent them from closing.

Three more Voidcutter waves and the second golith followed the fate of the former, Voidswords now operating independently while Pef struggled to resist the increasing pain left behind by the golith stings, their mind attacks and the subsequent erasure via Tribulation Lightning.

As if by accident, Pef's mind shield and maze climbed into the next rank as the lightning bolts kept falling, and the wave of mental pressure eased slightly, along with the pain.

'I got better!' Pef exclaimed inward while gulping some Godwine for a bit of battlefield recovery.

While Dao insights had nearly stopped after he reached Tier 6, there was still a noticeable effect in qi regeneration as well as a little soul strength. Only a little, but even a mosquito had a bit of flesh.

The orange glove declined to comment on the obvious, instead marking the Orange Menace as a priority target.

And just as well, since the Blade Fairy had vanished somewhere, leaving Pef to face the menace alone.

"It is you and me now. Are you going to run away, from a mere Tier 6?" Pef shouted in provocation.

In truth, he couldn't make these stronger goliths stand and battle, not if they wanted to run. The last golith stood still, while his wounds closed rapidly.

Pef waited as well, while circulating his qi and pushing through exhaustion and pain for this final fight.

In a minute, his Voidshield regain full strength, while the fused clones moved to englobe the Orange Menace from all sides.

Sadly, the goliths also had a Recall skill, which allowed them to simply teleport away, perhaps even cross universe boundaries.

And that's exactly what the last golith chose, turning into a thin line and then vanishing completely.

"Damn it. Such a coward!" our big hero shouted while waving his fist at the void.

A big chunk of experience was lost, because the damn fairy declined to help for a minute longer.

Pef sat down in mid-void and just closed his eyes, while going over the last fights beside the glove logs. Errors in strike timing and accuracy were marked for later analysis, as were clone mismanagement flaws and comparisons with previous fights.

'They are learning to fear you, Soldier. I suspect their leading intelligence has updated your threat status. We won't get anymore easy fights, from now on.' the glove offered in a level tone.

'Was it really that easy?' Pef wondered inward.

'Did you cry a single tear recently?' the glove asked rhetorically.

Pef blinked and checked his memories, but indeed...it had been much easier this time. Something had changed.

'You're right. I have become dangerous now. You think they have stronger goliths somewhere? Maybe a Blue Menace?' Pef asked with a frown.

'Yes, for certain. Our General couldn't be kept under siege by weaklings like these.' the glove replied decisively.

Pef scratched his cheek in deep thought, just as the Alchemist arrived beside him. "We should go back and start training the troops. Plus I miss my wife."

Rejin just shrugged and patted Pef on his shoulder. "Where to then?" he asked with a faint smile.

"The Mausoleum. We will flood it with recruits, all of them. We'll give them adamantite weapons and the Legion method. Survivors, we will reward with pills and Godwine." Pef decided with a grin. Why waste such a perfect training environment?

The Alchemist nodded and took Pef into the next universe, while inside his inner worlds billions of cultivators were being told of their new future adventure and all the riches they could find inside.

Some of them even seemed happy to enter that cursed graveyard.

Rejin shrugged inward, as he has learned to detach himself from minor problems. At least they would have a fair chance in the Mausoleum, unlike with the goliths.

New

The next month was dedicated to indoctrinating the new recruits into the Legion method, while those with higher willpower that managed to stand on their own also received Sword Dao instructions, plus a minimal introduction to the higher class of abilities possible for cultivators.

And while the lower ranks stayed with Rejin beside their families in the inner universe, enjoying the peace and comfort of a safe universe, most of the imported Monarchs and Saints were moved into Pef's inner world to be lectured on command courses and the three main Daos that Pef had already completed.

Of course, everything was done via the Avatars, which were a convenient method of multipresence, along side various type of clones and golems imbued with a divine messenger.

As time passed, the other members of the Legion began to arrive at the Tzi Space Station, former Autumn sect members who had achieved their Sky rank or higher, and then the rest of the Shin cultivators below Tier 5.

Eventually, the preparation were complete, with a billion human cultivators and a thousand times more Shin hexapods ready to descend on the Mausoleum and loot it of everything of value, from pure combat experience to valuable minerals, herbs and crystals, beast corpses and their horns, claws and simple bones, then other artifacts lost or abandoned by the previous explorers.

Split up into companies and squads, based on their cultivation realm, the Legion recruits entered the Mausoleum portals like an unending tide of voracious ants, eager to strip and despoil the vast locked universe disguised as a tall pagoda.

Pef and Rejin stood on the observation deck of the space station, sipping Godwine and exchanging stories, each competing to sound more outrageous to the other.

So far, Rejin won easily, mostly because his much longer life and wealth of experiences. He also had died dozens of times in outrageous ways, so Pef couldn't compete with that.

Then one day, the Army Commander of the Imperial station teleported beside them, and bowed respectfully. "Lord Pef Xi, there has been an event at the quarantine gate. Multiple emergences, all asking for you."

Pef stood up in excitement. "Really? Other people have come out?"

"Yes. Some of them have quite colorful words, and also strange hair shades. Green, blue, red and platinum, I've been told. Others look normal, but wield Word Guns." the Tier 5 Commander added with a hesitant voice. He didn't sound pleased with the news, it seemed.

Pef grinned widely. "Come Rejin, take us to the nearest gate. These people sound like my family."

"Really? I am so surprised." The Alchemist muttered rather ironically, then stepped over the intervening space and reaching the nearest Imperial gate, while also dragging Pef along.

Pef rushed to press his hand onto the giant crystal and vanished.

He arrived again in the white fog he had visited before, and a white cloud figure sprang into existence just in front of him. "I hope you will take charge of the other arrivals, and take care not to blow up my universe, Legion Soldier." the figure warned him as a cloud channel formed to the side.

"Of course, Lord Mu Feng. I intend to station my Legion at the Mausoleum for some time, at least til we train the troops to a sensible standard. I fought the goliths and I know what strength and skills they will need." Pef answered in a relaxed voice.

"So I've heard, Pef Xi. Your exploits in the Fay realm have reached me as well. Even the two weakest golith ranks are quite an achievement, for someone so young. Also, I am interested in your personal cultivation method, the Taichi?" the Tier 7 god asked sounding a bit curious.

"You are? Ah, you also have an army to train. Sure, we can trade. I do need more advanced cultivation methods for Monarchs and Saints." Pef declared while taking out a green jade tablet with his Taichi method inscribed on it.

The cloud figure hesitated for a moment. "No. I do have 31 methods I've collected from different places, but only for Monarchs. Saints are not that easy to mass-produce." the man claimed and offered a metal tablet in exchange.

Pef casually grabbed the tablet and ran ahead, coming to a stop right before the fog ended. "Perhaps a Universe Ascension Pill may interest you? Make me an offer." he asked then stepped out into the quarantine verse, right in front of his wives and an Elder Goddess he remembered from his own escape.

"Hey guys! I heard you're making trouble." he quipped towards his wives, especially Lin who already had Faith in her hand.

The Elder Goddess didn't seem to pleased being held at gunpoint. "Your people are rude and acting unlawful, Pef Xi. Not to mention attacking a Grand Alliance member is cause for erasure." she complained and pointed in turn at Lin, Lia and Aria.

Pef shrugged and went to hug his wives one after another, then hugged Cellia as well, then shook hands with Lord Yamon and his father. "Nobody seems hurt, my lady. If an attack really happened, you wouldn't be alive to complain either."

The Tier 6 goddess frowned and measured Pef with cautious eyes. "You're already an Elder God. You should know by now not to disparage the Grand Alliance and the rules."

Pef nodded unconcerned. "Yes, of course. Please keep an eye out for the rest of my family, and I'll make sure nothing happens to your universe. And here, a gift for your kind service." he continued while offering the woman a Godbeast feather and a bottle of Godwine. They were rare items even for a Tier 7, so they should motivate the woman to keep watch over his remaining friends locked inside the Mirror Universe.

The Elder Goddess measured the gifts with some suspicion, before waving a hand and storing them into a ring. "I'll hold you to that, Pef Xi. My father likes you, and says you can stop a golith wave by yourself. Make sure you do, if they come."

Pef smiled and knocked on the gate crystal, pretty sure that the Tier 7 god kept his eye out for his daughter and the potential trouble at the gate. And indeed, a white portal appeared on the surface. "Step inside, guys. I found a great place to visit on the other side." he invited the escapees and he waited until they all filed up inside the gate.

Then he turned towards the Elder Goddess, and raised an eyebrow. "You must be pretty lonely, here by yourself."

The woman stood still, waiting for the catch.

"See if your father lets you join my task force, when we go after the Desolate Beast. The participants will get a share of the loot, including what pills and wine we can make from the corpse, and perhaps weapons made of the bones. It will be fun!" Pef enticed her with a grin, then jumped inside the portal and vanished.

-------------

The Elder Goddess took out the Godwine bottle and took a small sip, admiring the effects on her body and soul, even if the ingredients were from a Tier 5 Godbeast.

Then she extracted the red feather and waved it around, eyes gleaming with childish joy. She tested the resistance and durability, finding it nigh-unbreakable, despite its thin and light appearance. "A Dian Godbeast? He must be insane..."

A man stepped out of the void beside her, and patted her head in a fatherly manner. "If there was anyone else...but Pef did chase a golith away just after he reached Universe Realm.

The Fairy Godmother seemed quite enthralled by him. She never praised anyone...til now."

The woman blushed slightly, then stored the feather away. "Was than an endorsement? From you?" she asked quite surprised.

"I do worry about you, little Gena. And the boy is right, you're too lonely here. I can send someone else to sit on the Mirror throne, if you want to adventure for a while." Lord Mu Feng offered in a kinder tone.

"You don't have anyone else for this task. They need at least a Universe Realm to withstand the throne. Even Ming Feng is only at Galaxy God realm." Gena Feng muttered and shook her head in denial.

"Let me worry about that. You just think about what you want, my girl. Plus, a Dian Ascension Pill has no price. There won't be another chance, little Gena." the Tier 7 god whispered and vanished without a ripple.

The woman sighed and stepped into the void, then emerged above the gas giant masking the Mirror and the throne.

As she sat down and melded her mind with the throne, a single Avatar stood back and meditated on her father's words. Like any father, he wished the best for a child, and what could be better than true immortality. She just now felt death stepping on her grave, when faced with a Legion Word Gun. A single word and she's be gone forever.

Gena has never felt so weak and powerless before, and didn't want to feel that again. Dian Realms could still die, but she had just seen them get reborn and five of them emerge alive again from the Mirror universe. It wouldn't take them long to recover now, especially if they roamed the Mausoleum and fought the beasts inside.

Although she kept meditating and going over the potential problems, she already knew her decision.

New

Back in the white fog inside the universe gate, Pef glanced around for the Tier 7 god he knew had to be around.

After a minute, the fog once more concentrated into a human shape, only the process didn't end there. From inside the fog a man stepped out, clad in a magnificent emerald robe with golden trims and beasts painted on it. As he measured Pef with stern eyes, he stared at the spot where the sting scar used to be.

"You healed it?" Lord Mu Feng asked a bit surprised.

Pef glanced down and poked his belly. "Ah, you mean that old scar?" he wondered in fake confusion.

The other god grimaced at the annoying deflection. "Anyway, tell me about this Desolate Beast plan."

Our hero smiled gently. "Isn't it just another beast? We go there and kill it. Simple."

"I've seen that perilous beast once. That thing is ten times stronger than me and even worse, it's invulnerable to any damage. Do you think you can defeat me, Veritas Soldier?" the Tier 7 god asked while pressing on Pef with his powerful aura.

But Pef just shrugged unconcerned as his Voidshield sprang up to withstand the pressure. "I cannot defeat you, Lord Mu Feng. You're a Tier 7 cultivator with thousands of tricks and techniques that you've polished over billions of years."

"At least you realize that." the man muttered and stood a bit straighter.

"However, if it came to it, I could kill you in 10 seconds. The question is, would you manage to kill me first?" Pef wondered with a far away look.

The man's eyes glinted with combat intent for a second, before he sighed and nodded to himself. "Perhaps it is so. My skill is not a combat technique, nor is my cultivation oriented towards killing."

"Yes, my skill is not meant to chop wood. I learned that when I was 7-years-old." Pef said with a sad smile.

"Anyways, about that Universe Pill. I thought about what I could offer in an even trade. How about this?" Lord Mu Feng proposed while taking out a giant violet weapon shaped like wood board, with a long handle ending in a glowing yellow crystal.

Pef held his hand out, and the large buster sword dragged his hand down for a second, before he strengthened himself with more qi. Instantly, the weapon's blade changed color to a dark-blue shade, and the crystal as well.

However, the giant weight still remained, making Pef sweat as he held it in his right hand.

The heaviness was so absurd Pef had to think for a moment how it could be possible. He could juggle entire planets, even lift a star with pure physical strength.

"Some type of special metal?" he asked curious, while testing the edge and cutting his palm with a mere touch. The blood vanished into the sword, and the handle hummed pleasantly into his hand.

"Very special metal. But the weight comes from the runes inscribed on it by the Jade Emperor. I heard it took him a million years to forge the Heart Dividing Ruler, and he even used it to fight the Taotie, long ago. I suppose you know who that is, by now." the man explained with a pained voice.

"I heard about the Jade Emperor, and the Taotie as well. The beast locked in the final realm of the Mausoleum, which got released and then locked again. Quite fascinating that last part. How did he manage that, when nobody could even hurt the beast?" Pef asked with a gentle voice.

He also noticed the metal was indeed similar with Yue's ring, also changing color depending on the user. This sort of proved the weapon had indeed a link with the famous Jade Emperor as the ring was able to restrain the powerful badger, somehow. But runes, he already had a modicum of knowledge about them, from his time in the devil galaxy back home.

"The Jade Emperor sacrificed himself and his soul, and in his final act forged the new prison for the Taotie. Next second, a giant black tribulation came down and shattered his body and soul. All he left behind was a paper fan and this sword. I heard the fan is even stronger though." Lord Mu Feng whispered in a barely restrained sob.

"You knew him. He left the sword for you...why give it away?" Pef demanded a little confused, as he suspected he had already seen that paper fan in the Fay Realm. Though he would have never guessed it was such a powerful weapon, especially without wearing his glove.

"I could never use the ruler as it was meant, or as it wants to be used. It took me a billion years just to achieve that, having the ruler accept me as a user. While it is not a Divine Artifact yet, it has the capacity to grow and to ascend beside its wielder. Just like your glove." The Tier 7 god said with a knowing glance towards Pef's right hand.

'You're here?' Pef asked inward, surprised at having forgotten his friend.

'Obviously I am here, where else could I be? Damn sword broke my concealment.' the orange glove grumbled like it wasn't too happy.

Pef folded the sword into the glove pocket, and the glove vanished, leaving instead a Universe Pill in his palm.

"It's a deal then. I am curious how strong the ruler is, but I also think it's worth a Universe Pill." he decided in a second. Surely it had to be at least a Tier 7 weapon, and that would help him unleash even stronger Voidswords or Voidcutters.

The next second, a white corridor opened to allow Pef to leave the gate, no doubt signaling the meeting was over.

Pef just flicked the pill towards the green-robed man and skipped away towards the exit. "See you later, Lord Mu Feng!" he quipped out loud as he waved goodbye without turning.

In a second, he was out and among friends and family.

---------

Behind Pef, the white fog closed once more and the gate resumed its crystal aspect. However, inside the gate a warm wind blew gently and announced a new visitor.

"I've done as you asked, Fairy Kalima." Lord Mu Feng spoke with a deep bow.

Another cloud appeared beside him, hiding the person inside with the exception of a paper fan. "Yes, but you didn't gift him the ruler. You actually sold it, like a bazaar trader!"

The man just remained bowed. "A gift may be seen as suspicious or even ignored and forgotten. A precious weapon that costs an entire universe will be seen as valuable." he replied in a restrained voice.

"Hah. Perhaps if you sold it for a Dian Pill, it would have equal value, and not even then." The Fairy Godmother exclaimed in disgust.

"That was the real trade, my lady. Lord Xi intends to go after the Desolate Beast soon and...refine its organs into pills. I just supplied the proper tool for that job, if he lives." Lord Mu Feng said gently while raising straight again.

"Oh? That beast? I guess it was time for that thing to finally die. I wonder how many seconds it will take..." Lady Kalima whispered softly as her cloud shape dissolved like a mist in the wind.

Lord Mu Feng gulped at the unspoken warning. "Hopefully more than ten seconds." he murmured with a deep frown.

That kid wasn't kidding after all.

"Back to the station?" Rejin asked with a dour tone, unimpressed by the constant kissing and groping going on among the newly arrived women and Pef.

"Yeah. We have a lot to catch up." Pef decided with a firm nod.

The Alchemist just turned away and stepped through space, moving the party back in the Shamballa system.

"That's the Mausoleum! It has multiple layers of folded space, each with different realms and environments for every cultivation rank, even beasts. And a few Godbeasts as well, in the Blue Realm." Pef explained eagerly while pointing at the tall pagoda raising into orbit.

"A perfect training environment for us, even for our troops." Lia mused softly, while taking in the sights all around. Her oracle skill was finally free to expand and explore, filling her mind with new information about all the ships and people travelling about, plus the millions of cultivators already living on the space station.

"About that...I may have conquered a universe filled with hexapods and added them to the Legion. And other human recruits as well, but only about a trillion." Pef muttered in a shy voice, while glancing guiltily around.

Lin coughed menacingly, while staring down on Pef with glacial eyes. "Spill it, Pef! Everything!"

"Well. You know me. I was just doing my thing, exploring and learning stuff, when I saw a pretty lady getting attacked by a group of cultivators. One thing led to another..." he answered with a guilty voice.

"So you've married her?" Lin asked in a sweet voice.

Pef just nodded and took out some wine to clear his voice. Then he remembered to share some with the family and friends, and offered each a bottle of Godwine. "Her name is Yue, and used to be a disciple of the Azure Sky sect. We explored the Mausoleum together and got married and she joined the Legion. Anyways, when I came out of the Mausoleum, she was kidnapped by the Shin Admiralty, the six limbed guys."

Aria perked up after sipping the wine. "So you beat up those guys and took her back, right?"

"Well. Eventually yes. But I was only at Tier 4 then and these Shin guys had some Tier 6s among them. I had to ascend fast, then find out where she's been taken, then acquire stronger weapons...and then I went to war. But I won!" Pef proclaimed in a vain tone, while holding up his bottle as a sign of victory.

The Alchemist just sipped his wine in silence while listening to Pef's exploits from his point of view. It certainly wasn't that dramatic or glorious as he made it sound.

Obliterating galaxies with Yin-Yang bombs wasn't something to be proud of either. Especially not just to rescue a woman.

In fact, among the new people at the table, just the reborn devil seemed to approve with Pef's actions, and he wasn't even in the Legion.

"Hold it a second. Ascend fast? How did you do that?" Lord Yamon asked in a curious tone.

The rest of the group nodded as well, except the oracle Lia who just sipped her Godwine with a knowing smile. Her skill was already inferring all of this from a single drop of wine.

"What you're drinking right now, is a Godwine I made with the blood of a Tier 5 Godbeast I found in the Mausoleum. But, not only the fights in there pushed me to the next realm. Turns out, Godbeast organs can be refined into ascension pills. They call them Universe Ascension Pills here, but you need a good alchemist to make them. Lucky we have Lord Rejin here to help." Pef continued with wide gestures and then pointed at the grey-robed Alchemist that sat calmly at the table, almost ignored by everyone.

"Good wine, hubby." Vela said with a soft smile, and a feeling of love and longing poured through the soul link towards Pef.

Everyone else agreed as well, even the Tier 7 Alchemist, who raised his wine bottle in salute.

"I can feel my soul tremble just from a sip of this wine. I don't think those Godbeasts are easy to kill." Lord Yamon said a bit more somber. He could also sense the strength of that beast coursing through his veins, much stronger than him.

"That's true. A normal Tier 5 has no chance against a Godbeast. Most Tier 6s wouldn't stand a chance either. They are simply very hard to injure, much less kill." Pef disclosed with a faint pain in his chest, as he scratched at the former wound from the Godbeast's claw.

The Tier 4 Archdevil frowned as he formed a blade of white-hot fire in his hand. "Would this work? I have just finished the Dao of Fire."

Pef just took out a red feather and held it over the flames. "We can test it. See how long it takes..." he proposed with a wise grin.

As minutes passed and the feather seemed to ignore the flame sword, remaining pristine and unburned, Lord Yamon's face began to change colors, as if draining of blood.

"I would like a feather like that. Should be a great weapon base." Lin murmured as her smith skill began calling to her.

Pef started spreading red feathers to everyone, as they were still in large supply. Thousands of such feathers on a Godbeast after all.

He also gave a dozen more to Rejin, with a small nod. His family would need stronger weapons than mere adamantite swords, while Tier 4 gods couldn't even soulsmith the Godbeast's feathers yet.

Wixtal Xi held the feather in his left hand, while the Word Gun appeared in his right hand, as if checking the room for herself. Then the feather vanished and was replaced with a red bonesword, still glowing faintly from being spoken to by Reason.

"Where can I find a Godbeast like this?" Wixtal asked with a glance towards his son.

"In the Blue Realm entered via a blue portal. And don't advance further, guys. The next realm is only a giant trap maze, while the last realm is a prison for a Devouring Beast that can eat Tier 8s if it's hungry. And it's always hungry." Pef spoke with a more serious tone.

"I won't even bother with the Blue anyways. Not even a thousand of me can damage a Godbeast with feathers like this." Lord Yamon muttered to himself, as sipped more Godwine with a sad face.

Instead, Wixtal rose from his seat and saluted with the red sword. "She says we'll be fine in Blue. I'm going." In a flash, he Blinked away and vanished among the cultivators heading for the entry portals.

Rejin glanced after the man, then turned towards Pef. "That's your father, right? You look quite alike."

"Yes. We also have the same Cutting skill. He'll be fine." Pef answered in a careless voice, while hugging Vela to his side.

"A Legion Captain, huh? Well, I think he'll be a Colonel after he recovers, if I recall how the General does things. And I don't doubt he will ascend, with a Word Gun in hand." The Alchemist said softly, while turning towards Lin and Lia, both sporting the same golden aura, but a higher cultivation realm.

"I'll bring a few Godbeasts with me when I return. More pills and wine should help us recover strength faster." Lin spoke in a firm voice, then Blinked away after a nod towards Rejin.

"That one. We've met before, in my home universe. She used to have long hair...and good smith skills." Rejin mused in a low voice, although audible enough for everyone at the table.

Pef smiled sadly. Immortality did give one plenty of time to meet everyone of great strength, even in a huge multiverse like this.

"Did you meet Lia or Vela before?" Pef asked curious, knowing Vela also wanted to know.

"No. But then again, Legion Soldiers don't live long lives, not even after reaching Dian Realm. Somehow, they always seem to get in trouble, just like your General." the Alchemist

answered with a kind smile.

Pef shrugged and nodded. He also got in lots of trouble, even here in the wide verse. In two years he experienced 2 ascensions and 3 wars, and 2 of those wars he declared himself.

He then turned towards Cellia and measured her for a long minute. " Completed the Dao of Water, finally." he observed with a smirk.

"Shut up, moron! I'm just a village girl, not a Soldier with unfair gifts. It was really hard." Cellia grumbled while storing the precious wine in her storage ring.

Pef just sighed and held out his left hand, making the sword icerune appear as a tattoo, then jump out as a material ice dagger, glinting with sword intent and cold vapors.

"Take it, Cellia. It has grown beside me these years, and should help you understand more."

Cellia bit her lower lip in hesitation, before summoning the ice construct into her own palm. "It's so strong now..." she whispered as the sword sank into her palm and evaporated.

In a minute, her cultivation began to rise abruptly, from the initial stage of Tier 3, past the medium and late stage and stopped at the peak of Tier 3, just a feather away from next ascension.

"...Thank you" she murmured softly as she closed her eyes to meditate.

"No problem, Cellia. You deserve it." Pef whispered to himself, feeling Vela melt into his side, as he glanced toward Lia, then Aria, Yuan and Qin.

Only six of his wives had made it out of the Mirror Universe, only those with a completed Dao. Cellia, Yamon and Wixtal also had completed their first Dao, which was probably the reason they could cross the quarantine area. Beasts and monsters did not cultivate the Dao, so this simple filter made the gate security quite safe.

There were other tests he recalled from the first gate, but they seemed kinda easy, though perhaps not for a creature like the Rock Mind Worm.

"We'll talk tomorrow, Lord Yamon and Rejin. My wives and I need a bit of time." Pef said politely as he gathered his wives and Blinked towards his apartment on the station.

They had a lot to catch up after this reunion.

PefVersed in the lewd.

New

Pef sat in an armchair as soon as he entered the apartment, and then 5 exact copies of himself appeared in front.

"I'm going to enjoy this" he said softly as his Avatars pounced on the wives and smothered them with kisses.

Of course, he felt every single touch now, because after Tier 5 everything inside was the same outside, if the cultivator had enough skill and care.

And since the glove made sure the Avatars were in every single cell identical with his own, they were basically extensions of his brains now, like extra arms.

The weren't selves, or whatever Rejin claimed to have, but close enough.

Pef stared as his bodies made love with his beloved wives for a few minutes, before standing up and moving in front of Lia who was gasping with deep breaths, as the Avatar took her from behind. Then he stored his clothes, and presented his long spear in front of her.

The woman glared at him for a second, before sucking him deeply. "Just like that, my beloved. It took me a while, but I found the perfect way to love all of you, at once." Pef proclaimed proudly.

Lia just grabbed his ass and sucked even harder, enjoying the lovemaking, most likely.

"Me too!" a soft growl emerged from Vela, as she lay on her back and got pounded fiercely by another Avatar.

Pef grinned widely, and served his first Yang dose to a loving wife. It felt good to be him.

--------------

Deep in the Mausoleum, the father of our hero glanced around, but the Voidswords had killed all the Yellow Beasts for miles. He barely felt any increase in cultivation, despite millions of killed beasts.

'Guide me towards the next realm, Reason. We're wasting time here.' Wixtal muttered inward while he collected the corpses for later smithing. He didn't need Tier 2 bones, but he did have a million recruits in his regiment back home. Resources should not be wasted simply because he was stronger now.

'Wait. Head south about a thousand Blinks.' the weapon demanded for some obscure reason.

Wixtal had learned not to argue with the weapon, as it did think a billion times faster and saw things from far above.

He began Blinking at high speed until he also saw what Reason did. A large number of cultivators, at least a thousand, all wearing metal armor and long swords, getting sort of demolished by a giant but strange creature with nine heads and ninety-nine tails. Only the durable adamantite kept those people alive, but they wouldn't last long anyways, as their cultivation didn't reach Saint realm.

The gun appeared in his hand and he simply uttered "Hold"

A bright beam of golden light struck the beast, freezing it in temporal amber.

'You have 300 seconds, Soldier' Reason advised him as a mental timer began running down.

"Bloody idiots! What are they doing here with this crap cultivation?" Wixtal wondered out loud, as he lined up nine Cutting skills and released them at short intervals.

'They are ours. Well, not exactly ours. They were conscripted by your son, not long ago.' Reason said with a faint tinge of amusement in her voice.

As the heads fell and Tribulation clouds began to form, Wixtal Blinked forward and stuck his fingers into the still-living beast. A second later, Heavenly Lightning began to fall onto him, and then struck the beast nine times as well, until it twitched and fell to the side.

'It's not dead yet.' the weapon warned him.

'Yeah, I can see that.' Wixtal grumbled as he began shaping Voidswords and then mincing the creature into tiny portions, until all the flesh was cut away cleanly and only a distorted skeleton remained.

Then he poked the remains with the tip of his Word Gun, and waited for the analysis.

'Huh? It is almost a Godbeast. Only the heart and eyes are valuable though. For you, I mean. The recruits could use the rest for their next ascension.' Reason concluded after a single second of contact.

"I am Wixtal Xi of the Veritas Legion! Ten people come here to collect the beast parts." he demanded in a qi-infused voice, just to make sure every armored recruit around could hear.

After a minute of indecision, ten older men stepped forward, eyes down to the ground.

"Are you related to Pef Xi?" the leader of the ten asked in a fearful voice.

Wixtal sighed inward and stepped forward to raise the man's face towards him. "My son is called Pef Xi. I take it you know him?"

"Yes, sir. He sent us in here to loot the place." the man answered in a calmer voice.

"Here, in the Yellow Realm?" Wixtal asked a bit confused and angry. What the hell was Pef doing, sending these people to suicide?

"Errr. The Orange Realm was too easy. We all voted to cross into the next realm for better loot." the man answered while scratching him head in shame.

"So, you were greedy and stupid. And also, votes? Since when Legion soldiers vote on their target?" Wixtal asked with a louder voice.

"...We're not yet in the Legion proper. Only if we prove ourselves in here. We did get nice equipment already." the leader explained while showing off his adamantite armor and sword.

Wixtal sighed and sat down in mid-air, while he formed Voidpalms to collect his own precious loot. Pef had been correct about one thing. If such beasts appeared even in Yellow Realm, then the Green or the Blue would be quite a treasure trove.

His eyes passed over the group, while considering what to do. It was obvious they were so far into trouble they had no idea.

After a single glance towards Reason's Avatar in his inner world, he brought the beast's heart close and took a large bite, then gulped the entire thing raw.

He continued with the nine eyes, ignoring the surprised or outraged faces before him.

'Try pushing onto the Void now, gently.' Reason advised him after raising an eyebrow.

The air around him wavered and stretched, almost like crafting a simple Wind Shield. But it wasn't air shaped into a shield. It was space itself.

"This is good, right?" Wixtal asked curious, as he gathered a dozen Avatars and began testing the new Voidshield with various qi techniques.

'It is a beginning. Pef can already block Tier 7 hits with his Voidshield. You have a long way ahead, Wixtal.' the weapon answered with a gentle smile.

"You could help me. Teach me how to make it stronger." he asked in a desperate voice.

'The how is quite simple. Complete the Void Dao. So, you want to hear the not-so-easy part?' Reason asked with a teasing tone.

Wixtal slumped and dropped the new shield aside. He had barely finished the Wind Dao after being born with wind essence, and he trained for 20 thousand years.

"I get it. Another 20 thousand years of miniscule advancements." he muttered with a dejected voice.

Reason glared at him for a second, then spun around and punched all the Avatars straight into the nearest moon. 'We don't have so much time to waste, Soldier. There are two ways forward for you. Killing more Godbeasts or buying pills. And your Green Jade is not worth much out here. We'd need Blue or Purple Jade for any decent trade, or maybe even Violet Jade if we can find any.'

"I could barely kill this thing, and it was only at Tier 2." Wixtal complained with a sad tone.

'Take these people back, and then we go into the Green levels. You need to ascend to Tier 4 before we can actually fight a real Godbeast.' the weapon's Avatar said with a sterner tone.

Raising his eyes towards the potential recruits, Wixtal pointed at the flopping bits of flesh spread around. "Quickly. Gather everything before it gets cold. You can eat on the way back to the Orange Realm!"

The people ran to obey, and began to store the minced flesh and the larger bones into their storage rings, bracelets or even pouches.

A thousand people were enough to eat an entire horse at a meal, but this thing was much larger.

Wixtal flew ahead, and began clearing the way slicing through beasts of every kind to ensure the followers arrived safely. After three days of constant sheepherding and force feeding, the group finally arrived at the Orange portal and some of the Monarchs even showed signs of reaching the ascension threshold.

"Split in squads of 10 and spread around guys. And make sure every squad has a Water Dao expert among them!" Wixtal shouted after them, as the cultivators jumped onto the hot sands of the Orange Realm.

'Nine thousands Blinks north east.' Reason demanded as the last group vanished through the portal.

"Yeah. Let's hope we don't die before we reach that Blue Realm" Wixtal replied grumpily.

Reason just pointed the way, not caring to utter more words. She wondered instead if she chose the wrong user after all. Pef used to be so much fun.
