Chapter 4 - 4)The woods

He eyes his surroundings blocking out the faint feeling of loss as he turned away from the window. This new worlds architecture was very similar to old English architecture, from his dream he could tell that this world was ruled by a emperor and the kings, and such things as nobility and ranks existed. He wandered down the hallway squinting at his dark surroundings trying to make things out.

When he finally came across a door the handle seemed to have been broken in. Whoever was raiding this place had broken in forcefully, this probably solved the issue on weather it was the slave traders or some other people. He checked for any noise inside the room before looking down the long dark hallway. People were still shouting and he didn't have much time to leave if there was something in this room he would take it, if not he would have to leave empty handed.

Cautiously he pushed opened the door it looked like a study of sorts, eyeing the desk he walked forward closing the door silently behind him. His vision was starting to have black dots and his breathing had only just calmed, his consciousness was beginning to fade and he still needed to leave. After searching found in the desk he found a set of shiny ink pens and some lose silver coins. While the carpet padded his steps he had been very careful where he stepped for fear of dirtying it, leaving tracks.

'Now that i have money and there's pens that i could sell i need to escape, god know what those people will do if they find me, they might even be working with the slave traders!' While his thoughts wander to the different possibilities his hands didn't stop there work, tracing the window that sat behind the desk giving a small amount light to the shadowy room.

Finding a latch at the bottom he carefully pushes the window open gazing down at the grass below, the window was one level up from the ground, it seemed he was almost right above where the cells were.

The shouting had grown louder and it seemed like they were searching for him so, without wasting his breath, he jumped. Not caring for the opened window behind him he dashed into the woods staggering like a drunk, his time was almost up.

Too much activity and too little energy. Running into the thick woods behind the building he let the moons pale light lead him, passing over thick roots and past tree trunks. Pushing and pushing until the last of his energy left him and he collapsed into the ground. Dragging himself to the base of a nearby tree his thoughts left him and before he could register what was happening everything went dark.

It was the sound of running water that woke him from his sleep. Cranking open a eye he mentally cursed himself, everywhere hurt seeing that he hadn't been the least bit carful with his body yesterday it made sense that he felt like he was run over by a car.

The hunger was building up in his stomach clearing his fuzzy and pain filled thoughts telling him he would starve soon if it didn't get its fill. Bringing his arms up he almost collapsed again, it seemed he had forgotten his arm had just been dislocated making it buckle when he tried to prop himself up.

' I need food, money, medicine and probably some water too,' His wandering eyes landed on the stream he had collapsed by just a ways away.

'Seems like lucks on my side for once.. If i can catch some fish or some sort of food i'd be happy..'

Not paying much attention to his face as he was sure it was covered in blood and dirt, he directly drank water from the cleaner side of the bank until his parched throat subsided a bit. But the cold refreshing water did little to help his desperate hunger. In fact it sharped the pain he felt in his stomach. He dipped his hand into the water and felt around, the area he was at was shallow and some water grass was growing near his face. Abandoning his disgust he began to eat the grass and roots that lived on the surface of the water.

When the hunger lessened his sat up, his body was sore and the cuts on his wrist and finger were stinging from the water that entered them. Sliding off his dirty pants and what his figured was underwear, he waded into the river. Since the seasons had changed and it was now winter the water was extremely cold. When his reached the middle of the river it was up to his chest, it seemed his body was shorter than he thought.

Soaking his cloths in the water he cleaned what he could of the blood and dirt off of them before laying them by the side of the stream to lay in the sun that was now directly overhead. After scrubbing his body a clean as he could get it he was surprised to find that his body's skin was very pale but in pretty good condition. His muscle were also well developed and he was sure that if he got some good meat and vegetables in him than his body would be very fit and he would grow much taller, at least he hoped.

His cuts stung and his muscles ached but he persisted in the chilling water until he could see all his scars and skin clean as day. Finally he dunked his head and swamp to the deepest part of the river looking around at all the rocks and plant life for something to eat. Settling on some random muscles he found from digging with a rock he swam to the surface.

By the time dusk came he had eaten his fill and had lit a small fire to warm him through the cold night. He had cleaned and dryer his ripped cloths, now it seemed much more like a lost traveler than a escaped slave. While he had been cleaning his body he had found 2 little surprises out about his body, the first was a tattoo on his back.

One of a dragon surrounded by clouds, it looked a lot like the dragons ancient Chinese people would draw and write about. In his new body's memory he found a mention of merchants and artists that came to there town every year to sell things and celebrate the summer festival but the memory of getting it was very hazy, it seemed like 'he' had been drunk when he got it.

Not paying much mind to it he decided that he needed to get a top as fast a possible otherwise it would certainly cause problems. The dragon was in black ink only but it stretched form the base of his spine to the top of his shoulder blades, covering the majority of his back. If others saw this it would certainly bring unnecessary attention.

The second surprise was that his ears were pierced, it seemed like the original was pretty big on upsetting 'his' father. Because he was covered in dirt he hadn't noticed that his ears were pierced with small smooth black stones, a part of him was quiet happy being able to wear earrings, after all in his previous life his had never gotten time for things for tattoos or piercings.

And so a week passed since he had entered the forest, and the majority of his injuries had healed to some extent. He had wrapped them in the grasses he had found by the stream since he didn't have any bandages and had cleaned them everyday with the robes water. Finally he felt it was safe to leave his hiding area and find a town or trail for him to seek shelter from the cold frost and so setting out early the next morning he began his journey.
