Chapter 51 - Chapter 51

I've had the whole week off since the incident. It barely feels like a break because I've been busy writing up the incident report, proof reading Ruben's announcement company-wide and doing statements for the police

Apart from the life admin, things have been scarily good between Nik and me. We've grown so close over the past week that my heart feels like it is going to burst from all the happiness I am receiving.

There's a small part of me that's afraid this is all going to come crashing down. But I know that's just my negative feedback loop. So I try to focus on the now, which is Nik feeding me dinner.

Who would've thought that the big bad wolf Mr Milordov, would feed his girlfriend food.

We're both sitting on the couch eating another food order from Aero Catering. I moan at how delicious the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake is, then the doorbell rings.

'I'll get it.' Nik kisses the corner of my mouth, then gets up and puts on his cargo shorts. He doesn't bother trying to find his shirt, because truth be told who knows where I threw it. So I take a moment to appreciate the view of his muscular hulk-like back as he saunters over to the door.

He swings it open and I hear some grumbling and angry murmurs between him and another person before they storm past Nik into the house. I quickly cover myself with the blanket, so I don't flash my boobs.

'Stev, hold on just a damn second.' Nik blocks Stev's view of me with his body.

'Get the fuck out of my way.' Stev growls then barges past him. Nik quickly blocks him again. But it's too late, Stev spots me on the couch wrapped in nothing but a blanket. When we lock eyes, his face turns pale.

I'm too shocked to say anything. This is not how I wanted Stev to find out.

He turns on Nik, 'Is this what you call protecting Jas, sleeping with her?!'

Nik looks guilt-stricken, 'Of course not! I never meant for this to happen.'

Stev laughs bitterly, 'Of course not. You just tripped and your dick landed in her.'

Nik snarls, 'Don't be such a dick Stev. Neither of us meant for you to find out like this.'

Stev laughs bitterly, 'Were you even going to tell me man? Or were you just planning to keep sneaking around with her, like she's your dirty secret?'

Nik invades Stev's personal space, 'She's not my dirty secret and never will be. I have real feelings for her.'

Nik's words bring me back down to earth. The fact that he's admitting that to one of the most important people in m life, means so much to me.'

Stev scoffs at Nik, 'Yeah, right. A leopard doesn't change its spots. What makes you think I'll allow her to be with a player like you?'

Steam blows out of Niks ears. They both size each other up, as if they're ready to pounce on each other.

'I don't remember needing your permission.' Nik grinds out.

'Clearly, since our friendship means nothing to you.'

Nik breathes out a frustrated breathe, 'Of course it does. But you have to understand that I've only ever had eyes for her.'

That revelation knocks the breathe out of my lungs. I feel like I'm on cloud 9. All my doubts about us, fade away into dust.

'What the fuck? Is that the only reason you got close to me?' Stev shakes his head at himself in disbelief. Then turns to me, 'Get dressed Jas. We're leaving.'

'Don't be ridiculous Stev. I'm not gong anywhere right now.'

'Yes you are. Or so help me god, I'm calling your parents and telling them everything. Including your break in. And we both know how that's going to turn out.'

I glare at him, 'You wouldn't!'

He laughs, its hollowness tugs at my heartstrings, 'Oh you want to bet?'

I groan, 'God, you're so annoying.'

'I'll give you 15 minutes to pack your things.' He storms off down to the left side of the driveway, where the entrance to the garage for the cars is. It's probably where he has parked his precious Porsche.

I huff, 'Well that went great!' I turn to Nik, 'He can be such a man- child sometimes, honestly. That was low even for him.'

He chuckles, engulfing me in a hug. 'You know he means well, he just shows it in an explosive way.'

I roll my eyes, 'Yeah, I wonder who that reminds me of.'

Nik spanks my bottom, 'Don't tempt me right now. We've gotta do damage control, even if I don't want you to leave.' He turns me toward the pile of clothes we made, 'Now get dressed before I find another use for you.'

I chuckle, 'Oooh I' so scared.' He swats my behind again, eliciting a small moan from me. Nik growls, like the broody beast he is.

As much as I hate to admit it, Nik is right. I do need to do damage control. I know Stev would never put me in a bad light with my parents, since he knows I don't get along with them. But still I've never seen him so angry before and more than his threat; I want to make sure we're good. He's like the brother I never got from my parents.

I finish changing then I kiss Nik as I head out in search of my angry cousin.

I approach the entrance to the garage when the crunch of gravel behind me stops me in my tracks. I turn to look behind me and see nothing. I continue toward the entrance, but an eerie feeling creeps up on me, as if I'm being watched.

I quickly look back and I still see nothing. I shake myself of the jittery feeling and press on.

I pull down on the handle of the door. That's the last thing I remember before darkness engulfs me into a deep slumber.
