Chapter 53 - Chapter 53

He lets out a loud laugh, 'Come on Jas we're close enough that you know I don't bite.'

When I look up and good look at his face I gasp, 'Is that you Rob?!'

He smirks, 'Of course it is darling.'

I didn't recognise him at first because he looks completely different from the last time I saw him, which was months ago. We went on a few dates before I started working at Milordov Corp and I didn't feel a connection with him so I cut it off.

He used to be tan, athletic and perfectly groomed. Now he's pale, as if he hasn't seen the sun for the past 6 months, and his belly that used to be flat now hangs over the waistband of his jeans. His raven hair that used to be perfectly coiffed in that typical finance man fashion is now ruffled and greasy, as if it hasn't been under a shower for months. But the thing that catches my attention the most are his hollow, beady black eyes.

Dread pools in the pit of my stomach. I hesitate to ask but I need to know, 'Why did you bring me here Rob.'

He lets out a maniacal laugh, 'To rescue you, of course.'

My eyebrows pinch together. 'Rescue me?'

He rolls his eyes, 'Don't pretend to be stupid Jas. I saved you from that Russian mutt.'

His derogatory term for Nik has my blood boiling. I clench my jaw, Why would I need saving from Nik?'

His eyes turn to slits, ' You can't be serious? There's no way you would rather be with that beast than me?'

'Rob, we haven't been together for over 6 months.' I say in a placating tone.

Out of nowhere he stands up and throws his head back with mirth. Like I've just said the joke of the century. His laughter slowly dies down and he wipes the tears from the corner of his eyes. He leans down to pat my head and says in a condescending tone, 'Oh Jas, for someone so smart, you can say the dumbest things.'

I resist the urge to scowl at him.

He continues, 'We never stopped dating darling.' He stares at me with genuine affection. 'I even sent you all those roses and left all those loving messages for you on your phone.'

Blood rushes to my ears. I have a flashback to my trashed apartment with the red roses on the bench and the weird text messages on my phone, 'Those were from you?'

'Of course. I know how to woo a woman.' He winks at me, as if he's the most romantic man in the world and not my kidnapper.

Blood rushes to my ears as one key memory stands out. 'The bouquet of roses in my apartment on the night of the 'break-in' were from you?'

His eyes light up with glee. 'I knew you liked them.'

Then he scowls, 'I was waiting in your apartment that night to give them to you personally. Then I saw you with that bastard and lost my temper.'

Rob glances at me, 'But you forgive me don't you? After all, I risked getting caught by that mutt that night because I wanted to see you so badly.'

Bile rises up my throat at the affectionate way he's talking about one of the most traumatic nights of my life.

I can't believe you did that Rob.' I say with disgust.

He seems to mistake my tone for admiration as he says, 'I know. I'm beginning to realise there's nothing I wouldn't do for love.'

I groan out in frustration. My sanity well and truly in tatters now that I realise just how crazy this bastard is. 'This is not love. You don't kidnap the person you care about.'

'Oh but it is. I've never felt this way about anyone before.' He looks at me adoringly.'

My stomach drops like lead.
