Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Red Ogre

"I'm a demon, pleasure to meet you, Mayor!" Sirus spoke with a grin so wide, the Mayor thought his head was going to get chopped off!

The guard roared as they charged forward but before they could even get close enough. The mayor stood up for a brief moment and held out his hand, signalling them to halt their attack.

He then faced the demon known as Sirus. "What do you want from us?" The Mayor spoke in a cold tone.

Sirus wiped his grin and gestured to the mayor to take a seat inside the manor. "Now I'm sure your men have already told you why I have come here. But I'll repeat myself once more." He Sirus took a quick glance at James before talking to the Mayor.

"As you have already heard. I have come here to be a temporary citizen, of course, if you wish me to do things for you, we can come up with something."

The mayor raised a brow and replied, "Such as?"

"I shall protect and defend your town as long as I stay here, that goes with bandits, monsters, mercenaries. And whatever lives around this place that can stumble and threaten."

"I see, but are you willing to kill other monsters?"

Sirus smiled handsomely and banged his hands on the table. "Now if I were such a monster, then I wouldn't be able to break out of these chains now would I? Mayor. And plus, I already told you, i'm a demon"

The mayor leaned back and sighed hopelessly, "If you're not a monster after all. Then are you some sort of human experiment that went horrifying wrong?"

The room went dead silent as the two proceeded to stare at each other. "BAHAHAHAHA, aahhhh… Mr Mayor. You're a funny one, I will get you that." Then his face turned dead serious. "I am not a monster nor am I some sort of lab rat. Just how elves, dwarfs, fairies and such are not monsters. I also am not a monster. Especially not some sort of lab rat you have so disgustingly thrown at my face."

"Then what are you!" The Mayor shouted with anger.

"I already fucking told you? Are you so old you can't comprehend that a demon is inside your town and talking to you?!" Sirus was starting to get annoyed, his eyes glowing slightly ever more red.

"You're not kidding? You're truly a d-demon?!" The Mayor began to cough violently. James and the guards rushed in to help the Mayor.

'Sirus is a demon? I never saw one before but, from the stories I heard, he certainly not acting like one. But if he says he's a demon then we can't be so casual with him.' James locked eyes with Sirus, hundreds of thoughts running through his head.

After a few minutes goes by, the Mayor finally calms down enough to speak, to a demon.

"Fine, demon."

"The name's Sirus, I am not some thing." Sirus narrowed his eyes at the Mayor.

"Ahem, of course, Sirus, before I can grant you a place to stay, I need you to take care of something. I wish you to deal with a bothersome Ogre. A red Ogre to be precise." The Mayor took off his tie and leaned back on his chair.

"Ohh? A red Ogre? Is it strong, I've been itching for a good opponent." Hearing his response brought some clues that Sirus loves to battle. A battle manic to be precise.

"Very well, seeing how you're willing to defeat the red Ogre, I have no problem letting you stay here as long as you don't make any trouble with any of my citizens. Oh and before you leave. I wish you would bring its head as proof that you have killed it and got rid of my worries."

"Oh, that won't be a problem, mayor. I shall certainly give it a good bloody beating. And I shall retrieve its head as proof. Also, you should probably announce to your citizens that a unique. Resident shall be living here for a while. As long as they don't do anything funny, I shall accept your demands. Is it a deal?" He held out a fist to the mayor.

"What are you doing?" The Mayor sat up with his brows raised.

"Well I would give a handshake as anyone would do but you see unless you want to bleed and have scars on your hand. A fist bump shall do. In other words, my claws are sharp and there's nothing I can do about it. Unless you have some extra nail clippers laying around."

"I-I see… I shall do this, fist bump as an official agreement." He awkwardly made a fist and lightly touched Sirus fist.

"Now that was boring, where's this red ogre?"

"James shall address the red Ogre whereabouts. And you can take as long as you desire. As long as you bring its head back as proof."

"I shall do as you command, Sir" James spoke and bowed in a respectful manner before leading Sirus out of the manor.

As Sirus exited the manor he sighed in relief and breathed deeply. "I can't believe I negotiated with a demon, a blood demon! And I'm still here in one piece!"

"Sir with all due respect, are you certain we can trust this demon, umm, Sirus?" One of the guards spoke.

"I still don't feel good about letting him into the town as a resident but I presume I have no reason to suspect he will do something funny. After all, If he wanted to stay here without making an agreement. He could have done it forcefully. Ahhh. Bring me something to drink. I'm exhausted from just speaking to him."

"As you wish."

'I can take advantage of his power for my own bidding. But I need to do it very carefully not to upset him, otherwise I have no other way of getting rid of a demon.'

Outside of the front gate, James is telling the whereabouts of the red Ogre.

"It won't take long to reach the location, just hoping it can give me a good fight!"

Before he went off he remembered something. "Oh, what happened to that Tiger fellow? Oh and my dagger?"

"Here. As for Tiger Eater, well. Our medics are currently taking care of him. You took care of him like he was nothing but a child." James spoke in a bit of jealousy.

"I'm sure you got some strength. If you performed the same technique as I did, then you would have no trouble dealing with a crazy bull who just charged at you with no plan in his idiotic brain. Anyway, I shall be off now."

He walked off calmly without waiting for a response from James.

"I need to sleep for a couple of days straight. Today was, was such a, whatever." He mumbled as he walked off back to his house to sleep. Ignoring that he still has his duty as a head guard to attend to.

"Hey, the mayor is giving a speech, what do you think he is going to talk about?"

"Probably going to apologize about the evacuation warning. I don't see what else he would summon all of us for."

"Ahram!" The Mayor cleared his voice.

The chatter within the people suddenly came to a halt as the Mayor was speaking.

"Fellow beloved citizens of Kurts. I have summoned you all here for two reasons. First to apologize for the evacuation warning. Second. Ahram. There will be a new temporary resident that shall stay here for heavens how long he will stay for, He isn't human! But he isn't a monster either, even at first glance he may look like a terrifying monster coming to consume and devour us all but remain calm and hear your beloved Mayor out." He stopped for a moment before continuing his speech.

"Please do not bother with this fellow named Sirus and he won't bother you. If you are upset about him then talk to either one of the guards or talk directly to James if you encounter any sort of problem. Now you may be all why I am addressing such a person with caution. He is not a monster as we have proof to show, so do not be scared and please ignore him! That is all. You may continue with your lives." He walked off the stage with his back soaking in sweat and several guards escorting him to his manor.

The people remained dumbfounded at the strange announcement that needed everyone's attention about a new resident living within them.

"What on heavens was that all about? I have never seen the Mayor so worried before. Just who is this fellow named Sirus. And why did he have to mention that he isn't a monster?"

"Who knows. Maybe he looks like one." Another person shrugged his shoulders. Slowly the crowd dispersed shortly after.
