He fought ANNIHILATION many times and failed each time. Then he ran away into the past to become an Absolute. Yet, there is another Absolute hanging over his head here.
He is not willing to give up and accept his fate, though. That has never been his style.
And if there is one thing he has learned, it is that nothing is settled until you die. Anything is possible as long as there is still life.
He has learned that there is no real past and future. To great beings, the past and the future can be changed at will. The only thing that exists is their present and the power to use it to change the past and future.
With enough power, even death at the hands of an Absolute that wipes out someone from history and all of time and space can be reversed by another Absolute.
That is the case of the Lord of Madness. Even though he is dead, he can still come to life if another Absolute intervenes in the events that caused his death.
