Looking at the business card in her hand, Fu Yi's mother slowly sat down on the staircase steps.
She knew that Fu Yi was not a police officer, so when her daughter said she had been "rescued by a police officer," she knew for sure that the person who saved her daughter wasn't Fu Yi.
Twisting the business card in her hand, Fu Yi's mother leaned against the corridor wall and sat outside for a good while.
She didn't reach for the phone number in the left pocket of her jacket or dial the number on the business card, and after a brief pause, she stood up again.
Wiping her eyes in the darkness, when she returned to the rental home and appeared in front of her daughter, she had once again become that strong and optimistic mother.
"Mom, did you call Dad? It was him, wasn't it? He's the one who saved me, right?" Fu Yi looked at her mother with hopeful eyes.
"You mistook someone else for him, that police officer just looks a lot like your father."
