After sending off the owl, which didn't quite fancy cat food but still reluctantly accepted it, Shard made his way through the white fog to the outskirts of the city, carefully avoiding the prying eyes of the church. Compared to the relatively tranquil central area of the city, the situation here was far more severe, as not everyone had houses to take shelter in.
As Shard passed through the slums of Motini Alley, he spotted a corpse that looked as if it had been dried out for a long time at the entrance of the alley. He worried about the corpse reviving and went to check it. He found that the body still retained some warmth, clearly indicating it had not been dead for long.
Continuing along his planned route, he soon encountered dense black spiderwebs deep within the alley. Raising his kerosene lamp to light the way, the spiderwebs melted away in the firelight.
