"Call the guards! Call the guards… MOVE IT, CALL THE REST OF THE FUCKING GUARDS!" What was supposed to be a routine, uneventful night shift had just turned into a nightmare.
Cain had taken on an extra shift for some extra coins, hoping to surprise his wife and adorable little daughter with a gift he was trying to save up for. It was easy work, standing by the village gate, checking IDs, inspecting cargo, and occasionally chatting with passing merchants. The night had been peaceful, the grassy plains, beyond the wooden walls surrounding the village, shimmering with fireflies under the moonlight.
Yet in mere minutes, everything changed.
A purple glow pierced the darkness, growing larger by the second. Fire and thick black smoke followed in its path, spreading across the landscape. Cain's breath hitched as a monstrous, earth-shaking roar tore through the night, unlike anything he had ever heard before.
Cain's blood ran cold, his body frozen in fear as his mind struggled to process what he was witnessing. But before the terror could fully paralyze him, a sharp, stinging slap snapped him back to reality.
"GATHER ALL THE GUARDS AND ADVENTURERS, NOW! SOUND THE ALARM WHILE I GRAB MY OLD GEAR!"
Wyatt, his friend and partner, barked the order with full authority. Wyatt was a seasoned adventurer who had retired to the quiet village of Holton and quickly recognized the danger that was coming. His eyes locked onto the monstrous black-metal beast tearing across the plains, its presence radiating an overwhelming aura of pure… electricity… no, it felt different?
Without wasting another second, Wyatt spun on his heel and sprinted toward his home, mana surging through his body, amplifying his speed. He didn't bother fumbling with his keys, there was no time for that. Instead, he slammed his shoulder into the door, breaking it open in one swift motion.
Dust swirled in the air as he strode toward an old, heavy wardrobe tucked in the corner of his room. Its white wood, worn by time, groaned as he wrenched it open. And there it was.
A full set of heavy gray metal armor stood tall as if waiting for him. Memories flooded his mind, of battles fought, of blood spilled, of victories and losses. The armor called to him, a silent reminder of the warrior he once was.
Although the armor carried the weight of countless painful memories, Wyatt shook his head and donned his old, trusted companion once more. It felt heavier than he remembered, a reminder that age was catching up to him. He had to channel mana through his body just to move with the same strength he once had.
Yet, after years of repetition, equipping his armor was second nature. In less than two minutes, every piece was secured. But just as he grabbed his helmet and set it on his head, another violent tremor shook his home, followed by the distant thud of explosions.
Without hesitation, Wyatt shoved the white wardrobe aside, grasping his massive black longsword, its six-foot blade still as imposing as ever. He rushed outside, only for horror to seize him as he finally laid eyes on the devastation.
The moment Wyatt stepped outside, the sheer scale of destruction made his stomach drop.
Fires raged, turning the once peaceful night into a hellscape of flickering orange and black smoke. The scent of burning wood mixed with the sickly stench of scorched flesh. Buildings near the entrance of the village had already collapsed, their supports shattered as if something large had forcefully run through them.
Then he saw it.
The monstrous black figure, wreathed in wild, chaotic purple energy, tore through everything in its path. The volatile mana crackled and arced violently around its body, melting through wood, stone, and flesh alike. Its massive form was unfamiliar to Wyatt, he had never encountered a beast like this before. But what truly sent a chill down his spine was what lay beneath its savagery, the Intelligence he saw. Years of being an adventurer made him realize that this monster was smart.
It was no mindless beast in a frenzy. It was hunting… no it was looking for something. Wyatt watched as it ignored the men scrambling at its feet, crushing them underfoot without a second thought. Its focus locked onto a mage mid-chant, his hands glowing with the formation of a [Fireball] spell. In a blur, the creature lunged, seizing the man and snapping its bloody jaws shut around him, swallowing him whole.
Wyatt's grip tightened around his longsword, mana surging through his old, rusty limbs. It had been years since he had faced a monster of this caliber, but hesitation was a luxury he couldn't afford.
Forcing his body into motion, he charged, determined to intercept the beast before it reached the village chief's home. But as he channeled his mana into his blade, preparing for a strike near its leg joint, he saw the creature rear its head back, its maw opening wide.
Then, a beam of searing-hot purple mana erupted. Burning through the village chief's wooden home with ease, leaving nothing but the foundation that was slowly becoming a goo. Yet he didn't even have time to think about an old friend dying as the purple beam quickly made its way to him.
He managed to form a [Barrier] spell at the last second, but it didn't even last very long as the entire thing shattered. Letting him feel the force of plasma burning his armor and flesh away.
— Erina POV
[I FEEL HIM! He's… right… HERE!]
With a furious roar, I unleashed a breath of searing plasma, obliterating a luxury home in an instant. The blast tore through wood, brick, and stone, leaving nothing but a scorched stone foundation. Yet, through my connection with Tyrant, I could still feel him, hidden below in some sort of basement.
Without hesitation, I drove my plasma-imbued claws into the stone floor, tearing through it. Each strike sent debris flying as I tunneled downward, desperate to reach him. But then, clang.
My claws scraped against something solid.
Glaring down, I found a barrier of deep red metal, untouched by my attack. Strange blue runes floated across its surface, pulsing with an eerie glow. No cracks. No dents. Nothing.
Frustration boiled over. I knew Tyrant was beneath this damned thing, his life slowly slipping away. Snarling, I slammed my fist into the metal, only to be stopped mid-strike by a translucent blue shield that flared to life, absorbing the impact without a scratch.
Rage surged through me. With another deafening roar, I fired a concentrated blast of plasma directly at the obstruction. The air crackled, heat warping the space around me as the sheer force of my attack rattled everything around me
But when my plasma breath faded… the red metal and glowing blue runes remained. Completely. Unscathed.
Yet everything around me was either burning or liquefied, the sheer heat warping the air into a shimmering haze. My fury boiled over, but before I could unleash another attack.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A barrage of elemental spells slammed into my side. Fire, water, earth and whatever fucking spells they had struck in rapid succession. Almost knocking me down, but I managed to catch myself with my hands
Then… CRACK!
Sending me crashing onto my side. The ground trembled beneath my weight, cracks spider-webbing outward from where I landed. Ice spears were hurled toward my knee joint and managed to snap my left knee in half on impact
(WARNING… WARNING… WARNING…)
A sudden, emotionless voice echoed in my mind.
(WARNING WARNING WARNING: Host overheating. Body integrity compromised. Reduce plasma usage immediately, or structural breakdown will begin. Continued degradation is making the host more vulnerable to damage.)
I froze for a second. Melt? More vulnerable?
The realization struck me like a hammer, I had been pushing my power too far. My body, despite its strength, had limits. And I must have been exceeding my limit. That must be why those ice spells managed to snap my knee in half.
