Kame House – 4:30 AM
Knock! Knock! Knock!
"Alex, wake up! It's time to get started!" Master Roshi shouted as he banged on the door.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm up! Stop banging already!" Alex groaned, still half-asleep as he dragged himself out of bed.
When he stepped outside, Krillin was already there with Master Roshi.
"You're here too, Krillin?" Alex asked, rubbing his eyes.
"Yeah, well, I figured I don't have much else to do, so I might as well train with you guys," Krillin said, standing beside him with a grin.
Before they could begin, Master Roshi put on a serious expression. "Before we start, there's something important you should know, my boy."
Alex raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
Roshi cleared his throat. "We do not learn martial arts to pick fights or to impress girls who will say, 'Oh, beefcake, you're so strong! I want you!'" he said, imitating a high-pitched voice.
Alex blinked. "Uh... understood, Master Roshi."
Roshi nodded. "Good. A true martial artist must master the art of peace as well as the art of war. Victory is won through strategy, and strategy is derived from the arts of peace. However..." His tone grew more serious. "If someone evil threatens you or innocent people with unethical force, it is your duty to defend them!"
Alex stood a little straighter. "Got it, Master."
"Good! Now, let's begin your training!"
---
Morning Training
They started the day by jogging to an island milk depository. The island had a population of about 300, and delivering milk wasn't as simple as Alex had expected. Master Roshi made them run while skipping, zig-zag through trees, climb mountains, walk across a cliff on a log, run through a desert, and finally, sprint over a waterfall while being chased by a T-rex.
By the end of it, Alex collapsed onto his back, gasping for air. "Finally... done..." he huffed, his muscles burning.
Meanwhile, Krillin stood nearby, still looking full of energy. "That was just the warm-up!"
Alex groaned. "You're kidding me, right?"
"Nope!" Krillin said with a grin.
Master Roshi chuckled. "Now, let's move on to mid-morning training!"
---
Mid-Morning Training – Plowing Fields
Their next task was to plow a field… with their bare hands.
Alex winced as his fingers dug into the dirt. Ow, ow, ow—damn, my fingernails feel like they're gonna peel off!
Meanwhile, Master Roshi was lounging under a tree, chatting with the farmer.
After hours of backbreaking work, they were finally done.
"Alright, take a break for a few hours and get some breakfast," Roshi said.
Alex nearly cried with relief.
---
Late Morning Training – Studying
After eating, Roshi handed them books. "Now, it's time for mental training! You'll be reading this out loud."
Alex glanced at the book's title: "Bob and Margaret." This should be easy…
Or so he thought.
"Margaret said, 'Hee hee! Stop, that tickles! Mom will be home soon.' But Bob took her hand and—"
Alex's face turned red. What the hell is this book?!
Krillin was smirking at him, clearly enjoying his suffering.
Roshi chuckled. "This is part of the training, boys!"
Alex groaned. This is worse than plowing the damn field…
---
12:30 PM – Nap Time
"Alright, from now until 1:30, we take a nap," Master Roshi announced.
Alex didn't even question it. He dropped onto the floor, out cold within seconds.
As he drifted off, he heard Roshi mumbling, "Work hard, study well, and eat and sleep plenty! That is the Turtle Hermit way..."
---
Early Afternoon Training – Construction Work
After waking up, Alex and Krillin were taken to a construction site where they spent hours shoveling through rock, carrying debris, and hauling wheelbarrows.
It was grueling work, but at least they were getting paid.
---
Mid-Afternoon Training – Shark-Infested Waters
Swimming in a lake for 10 laps didn't sound too bad—until Alex saw the sharks.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" Alex shouted.
"Quit complaining! Just swim fast!" Krillin said as he dove in.
Alex hesitated but eventually jumped in, desperately trying not to die.
After what felt like an eternity, they finally finished.
"Not bad," Master Roshi said. "Now, onto the final training!"
---
Evening Training – Dodging Killer Bees
As soon as they got back, Krillin immediately tried to get out of training. "Uh, Master Roshi? How about I sit this one out? I think I already mastered it!"
"No can do, Krillin. This is vital training for perception and reflexes!" Roshi said as he tied both of them to a tree.
"Wait, what—?" Alex started, but it was too late.
Roshi whacked a beehive with his cane, sending a swarm of angry, killer bees right at them.
"AAAAAHHH!"
Krillin dodged most of them.
Alex? Not so much.
By the end, Alex was covered in bee stings.
"Hmm... judging by how many times you got stung, your reflexes still need work," Roshi commented.
"Ya think?!" Alex groaned, his face swollen.
With that, their first day of training finally ended.
As they trudged inside, Alex muttered, "This is hell..."
Krillin patted his shoulder. "You'll get used to it."
Alex wasn't so sure.
