Chapter 542 - Too good to be true

"Your silence speaks volumes." Mero said.

"You already know that, so there is no reason for you to pursue this matter any further." Wura simply replied.

"Alright, if you say so, just know that if I had the chance, I would hold you and never let you go." Mero said, Wura looking at him displeased.

"What have I said about saying such things Mero? Please, I am not in the mood to be sad right now." Wura sighed.

"You were happy before, now you are sad, let me make you laugh." He said.

"How?" she asked curious. It was in that same moment that Mero made the most funny expression that Wura never expected from him.

"What was that?" she asked laughing in shock.

"What was what? I do not know what you are talking about." He replied feigning ignorance as she laughed.

"You know what I mean Mero, that, where did that come from?" Wura asked laughing.

"I save it for moments like these when you are sad." He smiled.

"Well thank you." She smiled.

"I am afraid I am going to have to undo my magic, I have some bad news." Mero said seriously.

"What is it?" she asked.

"The East are becoming relentless, a patrol saw them at the western border, I do not know what they are planning, but it certainly is not good." Mero said.

"The western border? Are there not villages situated there?" Wura asked worried.

"There are, I sent some knights to go and check on the damage done, they will return shortly. Knowing the East and how ruthless they are, they would never just go somewhere in peace, danger and violence accompanies them." Mero sighed.

Wura sighed and stood up, this was just too much for her, she should have known that those many weeks of peace and silence were too good to be true.

"I want to go and see the damage for myself, those poor people need relief and aid." She said turning back to him.

"I do not think that is a good idea Wura, especially not now, the East might still be present hiding in the shadows." Mero frowned.

"Fine, I will not argue with you on that, but I want to go there." She sounded insistent.

"I will see what I can arrange in a short while." Mero replied standing to his feet.

"How short?" she asked.

"A few weeks at least."

"Alright, any how, it does not matter how long it takes, just make sure you send them help and make sure to tell me everything that goes on there." Wura said.

"I will Wura, you do not have to worry about that." He replied and with that he took his leave.

Wura turned around and sighed, she seemed to have forgotten that they were in the middle of a battle, she had rested for so long and it was the biggest mistake she had made.

She had to admit that she was not well versed in war tactics and every solution Mero had suggested involved harming the innocent men, women and children of the East, and she did not want that, so she had declined. She could not help but feel somewhat responsible for the new damage the East had done.

She hated that she was so compassionate, but she did have her justifiable reasons, she just did not want to ruin the peace and trust Liam had spent years building in the East territory while at war the first time.

"This is all just too much." She said to herself and sighed.

A few weeks later.

Wura was riding on Nolan with a sigh as she was deep in her own thoughts as Mero noticed that and he rode beside her.

"Wura, is something bothering you?" asked Mero as Wura snapped out of her thoughts and she looked at Mero.

"Everything is bothering me Mero, everything." replied Wura with a sigh. He already knew that she was bothered, he just wanted to ask her why in order to get her to talk about her feelings.

"Mero, you do not know how much it pained me to see just truly how much damage had been done to the homes of those innocent poor people." said Wura in sadness as Mero sighed internally, he knew that she would feel like this and that was why he did not want her to go and see the damage herself, but she insisted and he could not stop her.

"Oh and do not dare say that you told me so Mero, because I simply do not want to hear it." said Wura as she could see that I warned you look on his face.

"I was not going to say that Wura." said Mero sincerely, he honestly just wished to comfort her at the moment, if only they were not riding on horses but were on the ground, he would have enveloped her in a hug, she looked like she truly needed one.

"Right Mero, of course, but I know that look of yours by now, and it means you want to scold me." said Wura scoffed.

"I apologize if I made you feel that way Wura." said Mero as she sighed.

"Mero I just feel so bad, no amount of relief that we send can be able to rebuild their homes, their lives, their villages the way that they want it to." said Wura as the mere thought made her heart break, she could not imagine losing her parents' house that had been built for generations.

"I know my Queen, I can only imagine how distraught they feel right now." replied Mero.

"I know, but I want things to be better for them, I want them to feel more comfortable, to know that I truly feel their pain and sympathize with them, that I am trying my absolute best to put and end to all of this" said Wura.

"The tents are not enough for them to stay in, it is uncomfortable and worst of all, it has started to rain over there." Wura sighed.

"What do you have on your mind?" asked Mero as Wura looked at him.

"Mero, I do not like the idea of the people sleeping out in the cold next to their burnt down houses in old, worn out tents, it does not rest well with me, I do not that sort of arrangement." said Wura.

"And what do you suggest?" asked Mero.

"I would prefer that they go stay in the castle for the time being. The castle is nearby, they could easily go there and the castle is large, and there is more than enough room for everyone to stay there until everything is rebuilt but…" said Wura as she took a pause.

"But what Wura?" asked Mero.

"I am not sure if I am allowed to do that…" said Wura as she was uncertain if she was allowed to do that.

"You are allowed to do whatever you deem fit, you are the Queen after all my Queen." said Mero.

"And no one will question me?" asked Wura.

"No one will question you Wura, I am sure of it." replied Mero with a smile.

"Well in that case, I want that to be done." said Wura swiftly.

"I will send your orders to the castle with haste." said Mero.

"Thank you Mero" replied Wura with a smile, she could honestly say that if there was someone she could count on to always protect her, that would be Mero, and the rest as well, she appreciated all of them so much. But Mero was just different, she could always rely on him.

She smiled at him and started to feel her mind wander into places it should not have, she looked away and put her emotions in check. Being alone with him always made her feel a certain way, especially out here in the wilderness.

"You never have to thank me Wura, never." said Mero as he replied with a smile as Wura saw the camp and the secret gates opened for them.

Wura got off Nolan as Mero got off his horse and he turned to look at Wura.

"My Queen, I will go and take the horses, and then I will send your orders to the castle." said Mero, he saw the guards nearby causing him to change his demeanour.

"Alright Mero, thank you." said Wura as Mero took Nolan away from her and she walked to her office when she heard a voice call her name and she looked around to see a little sparrow flying towards her as she caught the sparrow and walked into her tent where she could be alone.

"My Queen, my Queen, it is horrible" said Lown in a panic, Wura put him down and he changed into his true form.

For the past few months, Lown had been such a great help to them, he spied on the East continuously and reported back. Everything went on smoothly without a hitch, which was why when he suddenly showed up in such a panicked way, Wura could not help but be distraught as well.
