Ramses lifted his head and looked at Duanmu Huai, speaking calmly.
"The life of a nobleman does not belong to themselves; they are born for the people, and they die for the people — no one can escape this fate tied to bloodline. That child is Wilbert's daughter, a member of the nobility. This is her duty. Compared to her, what we need to protect is the Wilbert family and this city... so I made the decision to abandon her."
At this, Ramses turned his head to gaze out the window at the city.
"We live above the people, and so we must protect everything here. If we choose to protect her, then everything in this city will likely be destroyed..."
