Chapter 23 - Threat

Mei-Ling exited the ship, along with the rest of the children from age five to thirteen, accompanied by three woman and five men. They looked around the island, seeing only trees, shrubs and plants.

They walked for hours, leaving behind the ship and the remaining adults who were offloading their luggage. Soon, they reached a region surrounded with people, huts, stalls and carts.

'This island must be huge to have such an amount of shops.' She thought.

Her father was by her side, so was her mother, both holding her hand. After asking directions, they arrived a huge wall. The wall was fifty meters tall and seemed to be eighty-five inches thick.

There was a large black gate, guarding what was behind the wall. Hao-Hao touched the gate and it easily opened. They walked in and were met with a white temple surrounded by smaller buildings.

Hao-Hao led them straight to the temple and they stood back and admired it.

Around the temple were flowers, cherry blossoms, sparkly pebbles and what not. The scene was really beautiful and she was lost in staring that she didn't notice that the others had reached the temple and sat on the luscious grass.

She joined them and a tall man walked out of the temple. He had long white hair and looked no older that sixty. He seemed to have aged graceful and had no signs of wrinkles.

"Greetings, young ones." He said in a loud voice. "I am Master Lan Jun-Hie and I welcome you to The Divine Temple."

The children applauded as he continued. "I am happy to inform you that you will be taught as much magic as we can teach you. But, you must pass the entrance exams which are to hold in seven days."

"Your elemental attributes will be tested as well as your physical and mental strength. If you manage to pass, you will be accepted into this institution. If you don't, you can try again in the next five years."

"Once you are accepted among us, you will be given a set of subjects to choose from. A student cannot chose less that eight of the eleven subjects."

"Students below the age of five can decide to choose their subjects now or wait till they turn seven years old. Before they have reached the age of seven, they will be taught how to harness mana and improve their magic."

"But, I am almost certain that there isn't a child younger than three among us." He laughed.

"Excuse me sir," Mei-Mei stood up and bowed. "Forgive my interruption." She rose her head. "I am Mei-Ling Xiang and I am two years old. I hope this does not pose a threat to my entrance into this institution."
