It wasn't clear how much time had passed when Lily's worried voice arose beside Charles' ear, first muffled, then increasingly clear.
"Mr. Charles, Mr. Charles, are you alright?? Please, don't scare me."
As his blurry consciousness reconvened, Charles opened his eyes and found himself lying flat on the ground beneath a great tree, with the crew circled around him, watching anxiously.
"Look at my fingers, how many are these?" the Doctor asked coldly, waggling two fingers in front of Charles.
Struggling to sit up, Charles was just about to say something when he suddenly froze. "What are we doing here?"
"Charles, didn't you say coming here would lift God's curse? Have you lost your memory?" the Doctor asked, perplexed, examining his captain's head.
"That's right, I remember now, I came here to lift God's curse." Charles slapped his head and stood up, but the next second, he stiffened.
Charles realized he was missing a significant chunk of his memory.
