I thrusted Scalpel into the heart of a Risen that appeared in the corridor.

Grinning, I said to Ken. "You joining? Or are you just gonna stay back and cheer?"
Ken gulped and stood up. Holding his makeshift spear, he rushed forward and stabbed it through the heart of a risen. "I won't be a burden to you. And I WILL keep up with you." He said as he panted, looking at me.
I was satisfied with his performance. No wonder the two of us got so well together. It seems to me that I didn't find the wrong kind of friend after all.
The both of us started becoming unstoppable. We slashed and stabbed through the Risens that poured towards us. The narrow corridor that wasn't even two meters wide helped a lot even with the lights off. "How does it feel to kill creeps, Ken?!" I called out during the fight. Ken wheezed and panted and shook his hands indicating that he couldn't speak at the moment.
I laughed. Not at him, but at myself 5 minutes ago. If I hadn't happened to raise my level after the first fight and get some upgrades on my stamina, I would've already been just like Ken at this critical moment.

Sounds of screaming became louder and louder as we approached the entrance of the corridor. "Help me!!" someone screamed as he ran towards us. Ken started rushing forward but I pulled him back. "He's gone." I said coldly as Ken struggled to get free from my grasp. Just as the guy got in front of us, a risen pounced from behind and bit him on the neck.
Ken's pupils widened at this scene.
Without hesitation, I stabbed both the boy and the risen in the heart.

It occurred to me that killing the boy that hadn't been infected got me 50 points instead of 10. And it was at that moment I knew that once this was known to the others, the strong would use the weak as point harvesters in the near future.
"You killed him…" Ken started to open his mouth but shut up when he noticed me glaring at him.
Forging forward, everybody was running and screaming. The people bit by the risen was infected and turned into man-eating monsters as well. I heard a roar and saw a risen rushing towards me with jaws wide open, waiting to turn me into one of their kind. And to make things worse, the risen was someone we knew that was infected and transformed.
"Eden! Stop it! Don't you remember us?!" Ken tried calling out as I pulled my makeshift spear out from the inventory. "EDEN!" Ken cried out desperately, trying his best to wake him up from this madness but to no avail. I stood still and pointed the spear at Eden's heart. Not even dodging, he ran and stabbed himself straight into my spear.

Life force depleting, Eden lowered his head and let loose one last growl. Ken walked forward and touched his head with shaking hands. "Once bitten, they are as good as dead. Remember this Ken. Don't waste your time trying to wake up someone dead." I kicked Eden's body off my spear and said to Ken.
"He is… he WAS your friend… how can you…"
I cut off Ken with a glare.
"He WAS my friend. Not anymore. I don't consider a dead man my friend."
Ken kept quiet, trying to accept the facts I told him. I knew that Ken could keep up with the situation, but what he needed now was a little push. "Tang!!! Save me!!!" a woman yelled as she ran towards us, two risen at her trails.
"Kill the one on the right," I said as I began swinging Scalpel to loop off the head of the risen. "Duck," I told the woman, not actually caring if she ducked or not. Rolling on the floor, the woman rushed behind us and got up to her feet. Impressed at her gymnastics, I laid my eyes upon her as I cut off the head of the risen.

"Huh, Demetria?" I asked, puzzled as I got a clear look on her. The blood stains on her face made her barely recognizable. "I thought Ken left you with Devora? Why are you here? We were just going to look for you."
Ken gave me a look like 'WE WERE?' and started nodding his head.
"Those… undead came near us and Devora let loose a whimper sending the undead banging on the doors like crazy. It took us luck to get out of there alive. She's now at the girl's toilet, I came out to find you guys, 'cause I figured I had a better chance of survival."
"Which you nearly killed yourself with," I muttered. Luckily, nobody seemed to hear it. "We gotta stick together, with you and Ken together, we can finally be safe…" she continued.
"I love that idea but I'm afraid I gotta reject it," I said and eyed Ken. "At least until fetching Devora and Demetria to safety first Tang, please." He pleaded. "I left them there, it's my responsibility." I stared at Ken, figuring out if it was really a good idea. Demetria left Devora in the girl's toilet, which she thought was safe and clearly it was an idea that crossed the minds of almost everyone.
"Fine. But if she wants to follow us after fetching Devora…" I relented.
"We'll look at her performance along the way from now onwards and see if she has the right to be our partner." Ken finished my sentence. I nodded my head and stretched.
"I really envy the two of you that you can talk about my fate just right in front of my face." Demetria rolled her eyes and patted the dust off her shirt. "I won't be a piece of luggage. Gimme a weapon and I'll show you." Holding out her hands, she waited for me to hand her a weapon.
"Demetria… Weapons, food, medicine, and all other things are all going to be scarce from now onwards. You must learn this if you are to follow us in the near future." Ken lectured Demetria as he handed her another makeshift spear he created.
Great, just great. Now Ken was using what exactly I said to him on Demetria.
Raising my eyebrows, I started to wonder how many makeshift spears did Ken make on his way to find me before.
Noticing my glance, Ken figured out what I was thinking about without any problem. "Don't think about it. The one in Demetria's hands was my last one. I only had the time and materials to make one."
I huffed. "Fine. But let me make this clear. If Demetria happens to become a pain in my ass, I will not hesitate to kick her out of the group. Do you get me?" Ken nodded and started leading Demetria forward. Funny how he could become braver all of a sudden with a woman by his side. I smiled and followed their lead.
Calculating my points as we walked, I figured that I had roughly about 110 points at my disposal. But I still could not level up myself to level 3. "Demetria, what's your level?" I asked.
"I thought asking the level of other people was forbidden?" Demetria turned and replied.
I shrugged. "Fair enough." And continued walking.
According to what she told us, she was hiding inside the closet together with Devora when Ken left the both of them inside. Then she and Devora ran away and left Devora inside the toilet to find us. Along the way, she killed two Risen and stumbled into a horde, and started running where she bumped into us.
Great, so she was only LV1.
At a sharp turn, we started hearing screams from the toilet. Even with the doors locked, the Risen kept banging and scratching at the door, trying to break them open. I smiled, thinking that those Risen were just a bunch of point resources. Rushing forward with Scalpel in hand, spear in the other, I slashed and stabbed like a madman, laughing at the mass points flashing before my eyes.

"Tang! Look out!" Ken yelled out of a sudden. I turned just in time to face a Risen about 7 feet tall.
