The noise within the Holy Court grew ever more chaotic.
Initially, the clergy could maintain control, but their patience dwindled as time passed.
They had been waiting here since morning, and now, deep into the night, they had still not seen Qin Chu appear. Their stomachs rumbled with hunger, and the bleak prospects for the future made it unbearable for most of the clergy.
They were becoming increasingly irritable.
Furthermore, some had pre-arranged for their minions to stir up trouble among the crowd, causing an uproar outside the Holy Hall.
As for the great doors of the Holy Hall, they were besieged, totally impervious to passage. A large number of clergy clenched their fists and raised them high, loudly chanting slogans:
"We want a new Pope!"
"We do not want an outsider from a different world."
"Only a native of the Sky Dome Continent should hold the office of the Pope."
"The glory of the Holy Court must not be tainted."
"We oppose Qin Chu becoming Pope…"
