Moer didn't actually covet the position of squad leader; she simply thought that Richard should have first shown her some courtesy.
Old Liu believed that since Fecund Greenery was currently preparing to establish a sacrificial group, and since Moer came from the Beamon sacrificial order, it wasn't quite suitable for her to join the ranks of Mages. Hence, it was better to reserve her place within the sacrificial group. Moer was quickly persuaded, but since Avril was not a sacrificial member, this led to a conflict.
However, after sitting in on one of Beckham's magic teaching sessions two days ago, all of Avril's dissatisfaction and pride disappeared instantly.
