Chapter 5 - Arranged marriage.

"When you come back in your next life, you'll remember never to tell Mo Li Cheng to calm down," he whispered venomously into her ear—then hurled her through the window.

The glass shattered with a deafening crash. Her scream split the air before cutting off abruptly. Just then, Liu Chen strolled into the room, unbothered, as if it were a morning routine . He stopped beside the window and looked down casually.

"Li Cheng, when are you going to stop this ridiculous habit of throwing girls through the window? Do you know how many times I've had to fix that glass because of your little tantrums?"

"That's none of your business. Just have it repaired before sunset," Li Cheng muttered darkly, turning away.

"How is it none of my business? The dogs are already big enough. Now you've got them eating corpses like they're trained hounds of hell."

"I don't train anything that won't mirror me," Li Cheng replied, emotionless.

"Oh really? What about me?"

"You're the exception. Honestly, I still don't know why I made you my best friend."

"Don't you know? That's the power of love at first sight," Liu Chen smirked, tossing a mock kiss toward him.

"Ew. Love my foot."

"You sure you'll never fall in love?"

"Not in this life. Love doesn't exist in my world."

"Well then, brace yourself." Liu Chen leaned back against the wall, folding his arms. "That's actually why I came. I overheard your mom and dad chatting during my visit last week. Word is—there's a marriage arrangement in the works."

Li Cheng's expression darkened. "What?"

"You heard me. So, you might want to start preparing. I'm sure her call's coming any moment now."

"What's wrong with her? What century does she think we're in? I never said I wanted to get married!"

"You know your mom. If you don't want to crush her spirit, you'll follow her wishes."

"Holy shit. She hasn't nagged me in a while. I should've known peace like this was suspicious."

"If you want me to die a happy woman, then you must do as I say," Liu Chen said in a high-pitched voice, mocking Lady Sia.

"Shut up before I punch you square in the mouth."

Liu Chen burst into laughter. "My God, you're hilarious. Honestly, it's about time you added love to your dictionary."

Outside, one of the caretakers cautiously approached the chaos. He waved his hands toward the snarling dogs. "Shoo! Shoo! Don't eat that!" he tried, voice trembling.

A guttural growl froze him in place.

"Ah! Sorry! My bad! Carry on," he muttered, backing away quickly. "Damn beasts. I need this job too much to get eaten. At least the pay is good." He glanced back at the scene. "Poor girl. Hope her soul rests in peace—like the others. God knows how many he's thrown out. This has to be the fifth one since I started here. Nope, not my business. Not today."
