Chapter 44 - I'm sorry.

"Who do you think you're messing with?" Xiotan snapped, glaring down at the groaning guard on the floor. "I've already warned you—don't make me cause a scene here."

"Madam, please, you could be sued for this," the receptionist cautioned, her voice trembling slightly.

"I don't care," Xiotan shot back, her eyes blazing with anger. "Maybe that would be better. Even your boss wouldn't dare pull this nonsense with me. Don't push me—I'm warning you."

"Guards!" the receptionist called out, and a few more guards rushed in. Several employees gathered, watching the unfolding drama with a mix of curiosity and concern.

"Madam, for your own sake, please leave," one of the employees urged, hoping to defuse the situation. "We don't allow this kind of behavior here. Our boss won't tolerate it."

Xiotan turned and gave the employee a disdainful look. "Shut up and get back to work! Oh my God, what sort of insult is this?" she exclaimed, her hand flying to her face in frustration.

One of the guards reached out, placing a hand on her shoulder to guide her out, but Xiotan was quicker. She grabbed him by the collar and slammed his head against the counter, the force of the impact leaving a small crack in the glass. The guard collapsed to the ground, clutching his head in pain.

"I told you not to touch me! Are you deaf?" Xiotan spat, her voice full of venom.

Meanwhile, in Li Cheng's office, Da Ming stood beside his boss, showing him the CCTV footage of the commotion at the reception. Li Cheng leaned back in his swivel chair, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he watched.

"Sir, should I go stop them?" Da Ming asked, ready to step in.

"No," Li Cheng replied, his smile widening. "I want to watch this play out. It's been a while since I've seen some good drama." He chuckled, clearly amused. "Let her handle it herself. Do I have any meetings left today?"

"Yes, sir. You have one left with Xtra, scheduled for 5 p.m.," Da Ming informed him.

"Alright, that's a few hours away. Go bring my wife," Li Cheng ordered, still grinning.

"Yes, sir," Da Ming acknowledged, leaving the office.

Back at the reception, the situation was spiraling out of control. The tension was palpable when a commanding voice broke through the chaos.

"What the hell is going on here?" Da Ming demanded as he strode forward, his presence immediately commanding attention. Everyone froze, panic flickering in their eyes—everyone except Xiotan, who remained unfazed.

"Sir, sorry to disturb you, but this woman refuses to—" the receptionist began, but Da Ming cut her off sharply.

"She is not 'this woman.' She is Princess Mo Xiotan, Lord Mo Li Cheng's wife," Da Ming corrected, his tone firm. His words sent a shockwave through the room, making everyone's eyes widen in fear. The receptionist and the others immediately dropped to their knees, realizing their mistake.

"We're sorry, ma'am," they pleaded, their voices trembling. "We hope you can forgive us. We were just doing our jobs."

Xiotan sighed, her anger cooling slightly. "I understand you were doing your jobs, but when I asked you to call him, you should have. Your approach was rude."

"We're truly sorry, ma'am. It won't happen again," they apologized, their voices quivering.

"Fine, fine. Get up. There's no need to kneel for me," Xiotan said, waving them off. "Just use your brains next time," she added, her tone softening as she walked toward Da Ming, who stood with his head bowed.

"I apologize for the inconvenience, ma'am," Da Ming said respectfully. "I'm sorry for their rudeness."

"Here, input your number," Xiotan said, handing him her iPhone. "Not having your number really complicated things today."

Da Ming quickly entered his number into her phone and handed it back.

"I'm going to teach you and your boss a lesson, but first, let me deal with what I came here for," she muttered to herself as they headed toward Li Cheng's office.

When they arrived, Da Ming swiped his ID card on the reader beside the door. The golden door slid open, revealing a large and luxurious space. The office was impeccably designed, with a round conference table surrounded by comfortable chairs, a cozy lounge area with stylish seating, thick tinted glass walls, and a beautifully crafted interior that exuded elegance and power.

Xiotan's heart skipped a beat as she set eyes on her husband. He was seated behind his desk, engrossed in his phone, seemingly oblivious to her presence. It had been five days since she last saw him, and the sight of him stirred up a mix of emotions she couldn't quite explain.

Li Cheng was dressed in a black shirt that clung to his broad shoulders and muscular arms, the top two buttons undone to reveal his strong, smooth chest. Her eyes traveled up to his face, and her breath caught. He was perfection personified.

"Sir, she's here," Da Ming announced before quietly leaving the room, closing the door behind him.

Xiotan's heart pounded in her chest, the silence between them deafening. She stood there, unsure of what to say, feeling the weight of his unspoken anger pressing down on her.

He didn't even look up at her, his indifference only heightening her anxiety.

"Ahem… Cheng'er…" she finally called out, her voice tentative.

"What?" he replied bluntly, still not looking at her.

"I brought you lunch," she said, her voice softening, hoping to break through the wall he had built between them.

"So? What should I do about that?" he asked coldly, still refusing to meet her gaze.

Xiotan's heart sank. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "I know you're angry with me… I know what I did was unforgivable, but could you please forgive me? I'm really sorry." She walked closer to his desk, placing the lunch box on it gently, as if handling something fragile.

"Do you think it's that easy?" Li Cheng finally looked up at her, his eyes cold and hard. "You think a simple sorry can erase all the heart-stabbing words you threw at me? You didn't even let me explain myself. You just blamed me for something I didn't do, and now you think sorry will fix everything?"

His words cut deep, and Xiotan's eyes stung with unshed tears. "I know I'm wrong, but I'm being sincere. Please forgive me. I don't know what else to do to show you how sorry I am," she said, her voice trembling as she moved around the desk to stand in front of him.

Standing before him, she gave him a pleading look, her eyes wide and lips slightly pouted, hoping to melt his anger. "I'm sorry, please… I didn't mean those words. I was just so hurt, so angry when I thought you were cheating on me. I was just so upset by all the things people were saying about you. But please, I'm sorry. I'll do anything to prove how sincere I am. Please, just forgive me."

"You'll do anything?" Li Cheng asked, a wolfish grin slowly spreading across his face.

"Yes, anything," she replied, her voice filled with desperation.

"Then let make love," he said, his words taking her by surprise. Xiotan's eyes widened, and she choked on her own saliva, caught off guard by his blunt request.
