Nic opens the top hatch and peeks his head out to confirm the coast is clear. “Ok, we’re good.” He exits the hole and once he’s on the upper ground, he leans down to help Keiko up. “Come.”
Keiko accepts his hand and allows him to pull her up. She soon finds herself standing in a back alley with a backdrop like a mafia thriller she watched with Nadia once. “Where are we Nic?”
“Vampire City of course, though in the underbelly I suppose. I’m afraid it’s a bit more decrepit than the posh university district you’re used to. But not to worry, you’ll be safe by my side.”
“I wasn’t concerned about my safety, I just wanted to know where I am to plan an escape route.”
He laughs, taking her comment for a joke. “You still have your jokes I see.” When she doesn’t reply and retains her stoic expression, his smile drops. “Wait, you were serious? Why would-?”
