The lights in the briefing room are dimmed, but the tension crackling across the polished obsidian table is bright enough to blind. There are silk curtains and satin overhangs lined along the walls and hanging from the ceiling like a banner. Numerous flags also hang in succession.
Around the table sits many officials, ambassadors and bureaucrats; all there to represent their respective countries around the globe. The audience has never been so big, with nearly every nation in attendance. However, no matter has ever been as pressing as their current situation.
At the head of this table, sits President Lucien Hartwell, the currently appointed leader of the United Nations of Humans, or UNH. He appears as a broad-shouldered man with winter-gray eyes and crow’s feet deepened by too many sleepless summits. He leans forward now, both hands steepled before his chin as he listens to the rapid-fire reports echoing around the room.
