Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"Just look at her, she's..."

"We won't know more until we run more..."

"Oh god, we found her, quick call..."

"Who would've thought we'd find her like this."

Bright lights. Bright lights and a pounding head are the only things I can register as I try to open my eyes. I crack my eyes open a bit and try to slowly get them adjusted so I can look around at my surroundings. As I open them more I can start to see a bit more of the room I'm in, tan walls, medical equipment, gloves, and monitors are all around me. Theres also a bag of what appears to be some kind of blue liquid hooked up and attached to me in an i.v.

I blink a few times and notice there's a man and woman at the window in the corner of the room. Doctors maybe? No they aren't dressed like any I've seen before. The man stands as tall as a pro basketball player and looks like he takes great care of himself. Broad shoulders, caramel skin, short cut dark hair and what appears to be a thick beard but I can only see so much from the side. He's standing behind a shorter women that has long dark brown hair in braids that's just a bit darker than him. As I'm trying to get a better look at her she turns around and she looks at me and I gasp. She looks just like me.

Same brown eyes, medium sized nose that's border line big, same full round face as me too. It's like looking in a mirror almost. "She's awake" she chokes out while trying to hold back a sob. The man behind her whips around to look at me then runs to the door. "Some get the doctor she's awake!" he booms out in a deep commanding yet oddly soothing voice then makes his way over to my side next to the woman.

"Are you in any pain? Do you need anything? Want anything? Just say the word and we'll get it for you." he tells me while placing his large hand over mine.

"Rodrick you're probably scaring her." the woman admonishes him. Her voice sounds like strong but sweet like honey.

"Vivienne I just want to make sure she's ok." he sighed as the doctor walked in. "Your majesties." he bowed towards them before checking my monitors and asking me how I felt.

"I-ahem" my throat felt sticky and dry and I couldn't quite get my words out. "Someone get her some water please." the man named Rodrick commanded and a nurse that I didn't even know was in the room appeared with a cup of water for me while the doctor moved my bed to a better sitting position. The water had to be the best I've ever had in my life, or I was just really thirsty. Either way my throat felt a thousand times better after drinking it.

I took a deep breath after I finished it then tried to speak again. "I feel better now but where am I?" asked looking around the room.

"Your majesty you were in an accident but not to worry we gave the best care we have here. Your vitals are strong and any injuries you have had healed fabulously." the doctor informed me.

"Uhm thank you but why are you calling me that?" I ask puzzled. "Is that how you address all the patients here cause I'm definitely not royalty." I look at the faces around me and watch as the woman named Vivienne looked at Rodrick then the doctor.

"Doctor could we have some privacy with her please?" she asked. "Of course your majesty, please take all the time you need." he said with a slight bow before exiting the room with the nurse.

"Victoria there's no-" she started.

"How do you know my name? And what hospital is this? Has anyone called my mom?" I interrupt and fire off questions in a panic.

"Victoria we know your name because we are the ones that named you." Rodrick stated softly. "You're our daughter and thank Ro you've finally come back to us." he said with a shaky voice and misty eyes.

"What do you mean I'm your daughter? Thats not possible. I-I know my parents." I begin breath faster trying to get air into my lungs but I couldn't seem to get enough.

"It's ok, it's ok, just calm down. I know this can be shocking." Vivienne tried to soothe me but my mind was racing a million miles a minute. Theres no way this could be true, I've never met this people a day in my life. I need to call my mom. Where's my stuff and why is it so hard to breath now? As my mind races it gets harder and harder for me to get more air the faster I breath.

"Hold on you have to breath. Here let me help." Rodrick holds a hand up to me and his palm glows blue, then someway if feels as if I can breathe again. My eyes are as wide as saucers now cause what the fuck just happened. I shrink back as far as I can to the other side of the bed.

"Wh-what the fuck was that? What did you just do? What the hell? Oh my god, oh my god!" I shriek looking around for anything to put between me and them. I pull my blanket up more as if it was a protective barrier that can prevent whatever they may do next.

Vivienne and Rodrick looked at me confused and exchanged glances with each other. "I used my magic to help you. You do know about magic and how to use yours right?" he asked me cautiously.

"Magic!? I don't have any magic, magic isn't real!" I exclaim looking at them like the crazy people they are. Their looks went from confused to furious.

"What do you mean you don't have any magic? Your magic and magic reserve is the most powerful we've seen in a century!" Rodrick exclaimed. "When I find the people that took you and did this to you I will punish them to the fullest extent of my law." He growled.

"Sweetheart" Vivienne sighed "Magic is very much real. Just look" she held her hand out palm up and I watched as it glowed yellow. A swirl of yellow sparkles began to dance in a circle upwards out of her palm and then around her hand as she continued.

"This is magic dear, it lives in all of us. Some more strongly than others but every witch and warlock born in this realm has magic." she lowers her hand and the swirls of magic disappear. I look at them and study their faces, how sincere and hopeful they look, but with a touch of pain in their eyes. Part of me wants to call for help and try to run but something in my gut tells me to trust them. That they're not lying and wanted the best for me, like they loved me. My gut has never steered me wrong or let me down and listening to it is how I made it through or avoided some really dangerous situations. I decided to trust my gut not them, at least not yet, and listen to what they have to tell me.
