Chapter 48 - Conversations and more planning

(Malcador the Sigillite POV)

He was sitting in his favorite chair. It was a very durable chair made from wood that grew in the ground instead of in a bio-greenhouse.

He poured another glass of his favorite drink into the glass and threw himself into the newly arrived reports. Segmentum Solar was mostly occupied by Imperium forces. For each conflict and each conquest, 200 worlds are added peacefully. The Segmentum Obscurus and Pacificus were the next phase of the advance of their forces. The forces in Segmentum Tempestus and Ultima Segmentum were unfortunately at a low level, but that will change soon. Plans were drawn up and back-up solutions were made because the data as well as the star maps were outdated and inaccurate.

All that was enough was for some Xenos to mine the planet or for the Warp breach to throw the planet into one of several supermassive Warp storms such as the Eye of Terror or the Maelstrom or even more simply to swap places for the planet or the entire system and suddenly the planet from Segmentum Solar found itself somewhere in Ultima. There were thousands of ways to make maps obsolete and plans had to be created for each solution.

He moved a couple of papers to another part of the table that was intended for the newly created Xenos protectorates. The approach to Xenos has changed recently and new policies had to be created for this purpose.

He flipped through almost all the documents and moved the papers to their type. He poured another glass of wine and put it to his mouth, enjoying the taste.

He was about to leave the office but stopped and looked around the room. Then he felt the pressure in his office. The pressure increased while the temperature only increased.

In moments the golden portal opened and unleashed a shockwave that threatened to knock him to the floor. He stuck firmly to the floor using his powers.

The golden portal clicked and the portal spun for a few seconds as the energy within it collected and separated. When the energy stopped gathering, the portal took on the face of his sovereign and friend Revelation.

"I hope I didn't scare you," answered his friend after a few moments of tense silence.

Revelation was in his normal golden form but he wasn't wearing his normal gold armor as, was wearing a normal business suit and was looking at him waiting for his answer.

"You didn't," he answered shortly.

Revelation narrowed his eyes and replied "I have good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first"

He thought for a while and answered "The first one is bad." He was interested in what was so bad that it worried someone so strong.

"Unfortunately for us," Revelation began and continued, "The Iron Men are not completely extinct.

"What?" he answered in shock. His memories raced back to the Iron War and the horrors that the Machine Army had unleashed on humanity. Lost allies and utterly destroyed planets raged in his mind.

Before he could say the same thing, his friend cut him off, "The good news is that they were completely destroyed. There was nothing left of them except broken rubble.

Revelation concentrated the energy into his hand. He aimed at him and fired a golden ball. He understood what it was about and let the ball hit him.

The energy completely enveloped him and flashes of memory appeared in his head. He spent a few minutes flipping through the memory copy. He understood all the details very quickly and heaved a contented sigh of satisfaction. The threat was removed and he allowed a brief smile to appear on his face.

"If we're done with the news, I think it's time to move on to more important things," Revelation replied shortly.

It took him a few moments to understand what he meant specifically.

He replied giving a summary, "Terra's oceans are functioning again, albeit empty of life. We have returned the last stolen drop of water and can move on to the phase of reseeding the oceans with other life forms.

He paused and conveyed other information "The last gold reserves have been extracted from Orioc and can serve for our future development. Our efforts in the Amazon forest have borne fruit as I can report that the first trees have grown outside the greenhouse. The Amazon forest is returning to its full size and although it will take a long time, we can declare our mission to terraform Terra as semi-successful."

"Excellent!" Revelation exclaimed. "You have made me very happy."

The portal began to change as a huge folder levitated and landed on his desk.

"My new orders as well as blueprints for some civilian technology are here," Revelation replied.

"Good luck," his friend greeted shortly.

"Good luck, my friend," he replied after a few moments.

The portal flickered before closing in on itself. He walked to a chair, sat down, and opened the folder to the first page.

Conflict never changes.

(MC POV)

I looked straight towards the horizon. I shouted "Dungeon information".

[Dungeon skills allow you to enter and exit dungeons. Dungeons are specially created battle arenas. They are fragments of power that have been combined to create a pocket dimension that can only be accessed by those with an advanced Gamer System. You can go there to earn points, as well as loot items and acquire skills. To access them, simply say "Enter"]

I heard a voice in my head.

*Ding!*

New Quest!

[First Visit to the Dungeon]

You've gained the ability to enter dungeons. Why don't you go inside?

Objective: Defeat the Zombie Dungeon Boss

Reward: 100 points

[This should get you started]

"Why only zombies?" I asked.

[Zombies are the starting enemies for all beginners. Skeletons are next]

I understand. I am a beginner. I looked towards the horizon and thought for a while. The dungeon is essentially a meaningless labyrinth with an infinite amount of creatures, beasts, and unknown obstacles, it was a dream for every fan of battle arenas. I had a good chance to win, but was careful.

I thought for a few moments and answered "Enter".

The area around me transformed almost immediately into a huge cave. Everything became quiet. The sound disappeared, and an invisible barrier formed around it. The air was thick and heavy, full of tension. Step by step, I went deeper into the dungeon and saw the shadows move and twist around me. The space seemed alive and I looked around.

I looked into the distance and saw.

'Observe'

I ran towards the zombie and took out my sword and in less than a moment I cut it in two with one swing of the sword without giving it a chance to react.

You killed the zombie! You got 1 point!

I continued on and the smells were heavy and suffocating: the smell of rot, blood and old flesh. The air had the feeling of something malevolent, something that shouldn't exist. Zombies were waiting, I knew it, hidden in the shadows. As i moved saw legions of zombies coming towards me.

My flaming sword was the only beacon here. The blade burned with a flame that lit up the corridors, casting long shadows on the walls. Every step I took was careful, every second was important to me.

The second zombie appeared from the darkness. He was half-rotten, his flesh was sliding off his bones, and his clumsy walking was the only sound I could hear in the darkness. In moments, I slashed through the air with my sword, leaving a trail of flames that struck the zombie. The zombie let out a beastly roar, but it was already destroyed, its body reduced to dust.

But that was not the end. Others were coming from a distance. Another. Well, one more. Zombies came out of every corner as i went deeper. I didn't hesitate. Every stroke of my sword was precise and swift. The flames consumed the body of any creature that tried to attack me, turning them to ash before they could even move a hand towards him. But there was no end to them. The zombies just kept coming.

I walked on, heading for the deeper parts of this place. It was getting darker as he went deeper.

The ground began to shake and the Zombie Boss saw me. The main zombie. Taller, stronger than all the others. The safe in the dungeon. His huge, rotting body was full of wounds that never stopped bleeding. His eyes glowed with a red, sinister light. Huge, long nails protruded from under his arms, ready to pierce anything that dared to stand in his way.

Zombie Boss didn't speak. What could be expected from a rotten abomination. He raised his huge hand and swung at me. The blow was heavy, it could have thrown me into the air. I jumped and dodged the first blow, moved to the side and attacked from the other side. The sword cut sharply into the flesh of the torso, but that wasn't enough. Zombie Boss just moved away from me and continued walking in my direction

He began to attack harder and harder, but I dodged each blow and returned blows with my sword to no avail except for his increasingly slower movement.

I calculated and ran into him. The sword pierced the zombie boss's body, but it didn't stop. The flame continued to burn from within, burning flesh and destroying everything in its path. The zombie leader began to shake, growling from the depths of his rotting body, but it was too late for him as he turned to ash. The body fell to the floor with a loud thud. The body was completely destroyed, burned, and the flames were slowly dying down as the body turned to ash.

I heard the sound of the quest ending.

*Ding!*
