While Lu Jueyu was busy in the backyard, she noticed a small head peeking at her from the fence. Seeing the boy, she smiled and said, "Shitou, what are you doing there?"
She put down the sweet potato in her hand and walked over to open the gate.
"Aunt Li, can I stay with you for a while?" Shitou asked.
Noticing his low mood, Lu Jueyu smiled and said, "Of course, come in."
After closing the gate, she held his small hand as they walked to the balcony and asked, "Shitou, what's wrong?"
Shitou clenched his small fists and replied after a moment of silence, "Aunt Li, my father came back from town today and is meeting the woman my grandma introduced. My grandma told me to go out to play."
Hearing this, Lu Jueyu recalled the gossip in the village about Aunt Li looking for a woman to marry her son. Seeing how sad the boy looked, she gently rubbed his head and asked, "Does Shitou not want your father to remarry?"
