I slinked away and sat down at a corner both in the cafeteria that was pretty empty. I could've joined in at Saten's table but I figured it'd be weird for people on different courses to share a table on the first day. I could've joined Kuroko but I saw that she was enjoying herself with the girls at 1-A and I didn't want to intrude --Didn't want to come off as needy or clingy either-- on her friends.
I didn't want to sit down with my new classmates either. I still find it a bit awkward to interact with them at best. I suppose that's just how it is with new people, having an invisible barrier like that. It should get more comfortable around them as we communicate more often.
All that's just left is the communication part...
~~~~~
The day went by and I find my situation no better or worse.
Well, Kuroko did discreetly wink at me when we had eye contact during lunch but that was just about the highlight of the day.
We didn't really did much after that, with orientation for the subjects simply being an introduction and a summary of what to expect in the class. Normal so far, but that too, is expected.
U.A. Might be a top hero school, but it is still a school. Just because we were being taught how to eventually pound pavement and skulls doesn't mean we wouldn't be taught math or history and the like.
After class, while the others go back to the dorms, explore the very large campus grounds or go off and search for a club that aligns with their interests.
I made my way to the nurse's office. It was there that granny took over my continued education in health and medicine.
She happy that she's finally had a chance to teach me personally again, the only difference is that we don't have a time constraint. The only times she's been able to teach me before was the first few months before I was admitted to Academy City or the times that she pulled me along for a medical tour around the country during long holidays.
She gave me her own orientation there, as well as allowing to parse through medical records in her office. She even prepared my own little desk so I have a place to study all of the materials.
Eventually, when all was said and done, she had me return to the dorms to interact with the people my age.
That really didn't happen.
I just went straight into my room and began the lessons ahead of time. I did exchange messages a bit with Kuroko before she had to go to sleep, mostly just talking about how each other's day went. She managed to place in second place, behind only Yaoyorozu.
She also did complain a bit about her homeroom teacher, with how he threatened those he deemed unfit for the hero course with expulsion on the first day.
With her vast experience at Judgment, she can tell he was lying when he said at the end that it was all just a 'logical ruse'. But she also mentioned that while it was bad, it wasn't the worst. Her dorm mistress at Tokiwadai still taking the top spot for that.
We fell asleep around the same time but I still woke up early with how little I needed to sleep. Left with not much to do, I continued reading a book for a while before staring my day early, again.
The following day was the start of the school year in full, with the students informed that we would be attending a full day of classes with the regular stuff as one would expect such as English, Math, Modern literature and Arts on the first half of the day, with the only exception being that each subject was taught by a Pro Hero.
Present Mic conducted himself with much self-discipline, as the man only had his outburst in small ticks during his lessons in English. Despite appearances, the man was actually a decent teacher.
Ectoplasm as a Math teacher was the least jarring as the man carried himself similarly as he did when he was still fully active, though the man was more than willing to split himself off into multiple clones, one for each student. Each clone would help a student with their subject matter, some easier and some faster than others.
Modern Literature was alright. Cementoss was clearly passionate about it as despite only being the first class, we have already cleared the first chapter of one of the selected books we were covering that semester. Some of these works are something that I never even heard of.
Modern Arts on the other had been a challenge for most of the class, and not in what you'd expect. Midnight brought the same energy she did in her hero work as she did her teaching. Her words almost always fused with double meanings and near-inappropriate comments that ensured at least half the boys where getting a little hot under the collar.
I, at least, can tell Midnight was really restraining herself with the 'lighter' innuendos because I have experience dating Kuroko and I know what actual degeneracy is like.
Let it be said that rich people are closet perverts.
Lunch break rolled around and I tried to do the same as I did yesterday.
Emphasis on 'tried' because Manga put a hand on my shoulder before I managed to leave. He said that the wanted to eat together yesterday but couldn't find me.
In any case, that was how I spent today's lunch sharing a table with him, Kuroiro, Pony, Yanagi and Kendo. It was nice, I guess, even if I wasn't contributing to the conversation much, I still appreciated being a part of it. And it turns out that the other girl Pony was talking about the other day was Kendo, the two of us will be helping out Pony with her Japanese.
After lunch was when we returned to the classroom where Kan-sensei was already there. Class 1-A has heroics classes first so it would be our turn after them.
What we are going to do first is a costume critique. It was in this lesson where we were partnered up to our seatmates and try to pick out anything wrong with each others costume designs using the very papers we submitted to have them made with the costume subsidy.
Before entering the academy, one is asked to send in a report on their quirk and body specifications. And an affiliated company attached to the school then takes that information and creates their ideal costume. Of course, the student is also allowed to bring in their own costume and update it later down the line using the same subsidiary.
Yanagi looked over my design with an arched brow. "This is... A bit revealing, is it not?" She looked at me.
"It's easy to get into and easy to move in." I met her gaze. "Isn't your costume a bit revealing too?"
"That is fair." She nodded. I appreciate that she isn't one for too many words either because the silence would have been awkward instead of comfortable.
The class was given a run down of costume do's and don'ts like how Ibara's costume wouldn't work for most people as the long toga dress would hinder movement without any alternative methods of mobility. Or how Shishida's costume design wouldn't have been allowed in the field if he failed to show any close combat capabilities or an enhanced durability at the very least.
The lesson ended with Midnight giving us the advice to approach the support department if we had any wants or needs for a support gear.
Then finally, it was the time for our daily foundational heroic studies.
"IT'S MEEEE!-" All Might burst through from the front entrance. "-COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!!!"
The most of the class stared dumbfounded as the Number One Hero strode to front of the podium. Then, like a dam burst open, the class erupted in cheers and began gushing over him.
"ALRIGHT, SETTLE DOWN." He continued, his iconic smile not faltering. "FOUNDATIONAL HERO STUDIES! FOR THIS CLASS, WE'LL BE BUILDING UP YOUR HERO FOUNDATION THROUGH VARIOUS TRIALS! YOU'LL GET TONS OF CREDIT FOR IT!" Suddenly, he's holding out a white card with bold lettering. The words on the card causing certain people to grin widely. "SO, LET'S JUMP RIGHT INTO IT! THE BATTLE TRIALS!"
"AND TO GO WITH YOUR FIRST BATTLES." All Might pressed something in his hand and sure enough, a wall opened up to reveal shelves with numbered suitcases sitting inside of them. "WE'VE PREPARED THE GEAR WE HAD YOU SEND IN REQUEST FOR TO MATCH TOUR QUIRKS!" The class cheered, exited at the prospect of showing off. "GET CHANGED AND WE'LL BE READY TO GO! EVERYONE GATHER AT GROUND BETA!"
~~~~~
All Might smiled as he watched his students arrive, revealing themselves in their new outfits as they exit the tunnel of Ground Beta. They may have just covered this in their costume critique earlier, but it was one thing to see and read about a design, and another for one to be wearing it. Each student offered their own unique blend of fashion and functionality, showcasing their values, ideas, or just plain old sense of taste.
"ALL OF YOU LOOK STUNNING!" laughed All Might. "AS THEY SAY, THE CLOTHES MAKE THE MAN, AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU IS FANTASTIC!"
He addressed them as a group, but his eyes couldn't help but gravitate to certain individuals. His student, his benefactor and friend. And he wasn't alone in this.
After all, including him, there are only three people here that are wearing skintight outfits.
Tokage whistled as she took in Kizuki's costume, before she spontaneously hooked an arm around his shoulders, not noticing how he flinched ever so slightly. "Looks like me and red are the only people with good taste in this room." She teased to the onlookers. But inwardly, even as a former gyaru, she was a bit embarrassed to be the only girl to go for that sort of outfit, not that she had much of a choice given the nature of her quirk.
Now that she knew someone chose the same thing, she isn't as self conscious anymore as she feels that there's at least one other person to share the spotlight.
As per usual, Kizuki's face is blank, not betraying the fact that he was inwardly relishing his classmates expressions. But from the outside perspective, it appears like he was glaring at everyone as if to proclaim 'Come on. Say something and I'll make sure you'll be in a world of pain.' hence why people aren't commenting despite staring at him.
He wasn't lying when he said that his gear was easy to put on and easy to move in, but just because he was thinking of efficiency doesn't mean that he didn't have any preferences.
Kizuki is wearing a full bodysuit the colour of black up until his chest where the rest of it was hidden under a small long-sleeved bolero jacket with a standing collar similar to his capelets. The shoulders of his jacket was decorated with a purple shield on the left side, as a homage to his days at Judgment, and a red cross highlighted with a white outline, the universal symbol of a medic.
On his waist are garter straps connected to the ones on his mid-thighs, holding pouches of items like his surgery kit and first aid patches. He's wearing his steel-tipped and heavy sole boots --That are slightly elevated to give him a few extra inches of height-- along with red front-leg guards that go all the way to his knees.
As for accessories, On his back is a two-tone cape that is red on the outside and vivid indigo on the inside. He wears a pair of black gloves so he can remove them for sanitary purposes for emergency treatments along with his iconic large ribbon on the back of his head.
He took off Tokage's arm from around his shoulders, but not before complimenting her costume. But before I slinked off to the side, Manga put his hand on Kizuki's shoulder and dragged him to his circle.
