Chuuya stood up from his chair, clearly upset. "Don't just say it like that! Just because you were born on a shitty day doesn't mean that you are the chosen one. Other people besides you were born on that day as well!"
Dazai sighed, his eyes filled with determination, as he locked eyes with Chuuya.
" Yes, that is correct, Chuuya. But there is something different about me—something that sets me apart from the others who were born on that same day. That is my element." Dazai blows slightly at Chuuya's face, moving strands of hair away from his face. " Air. Only one person every 10 years is born with that element. You should've known that."
Chuuya narrowed his eyes, the breeze from Dazai's breath ruffling his hair.
"Besides, this might be the perfect outcome for me!" Dazai enthusiastically clapped his hands, smiling widely. "I could become the hero of tomorrow's world, and the best part is, I get to die! Hopefully, it will be painless." he said, exhaling slowly.
Chuuya's eyes widened as he processed what Dazai said, his heart sinking at the mention of death. He was all too familiar with Dazai's numerous suicide attempts. In fact, he had lost count of how many times he had saved Dazai's life. But still, the tightness in his chest was telling him that this was something far more serious.
Chuuya, this time, is powerless. He was afraid that this time he wouldn't be able to prevent his death. And that was terrifying to him.
He looked at Dazai, his eyebrows furrowing. "Oh, shut up, Dazai! This is serious! Could you stop acting like an idiot for one minute?"
"Shiyo," Dazai said, "Chuuya is being a meanie again." He grabbed his sister's arm, clinging on to it like a little child. Shiyoo sighed, her eyes filled with amusement as she watched her brother. With a shake of her head, Shiyoo gently pried Dazai's grasp off her arm.
"Chuuya is right." Shiyo sighed, her voice heavy. "We can't just take this lightly. Your death is not something to be taken lightly, even though you are doing exactly that."
Dazai shrugged, his shoulders nonchalant despite the gravity of the situation. "Well, sister, that's what your prophecy is saying, not me."
Shiyo's eyes narrowed, her arms crossing over her chest. "You're not taking this seriously enough."
Dazai's grin faltered for a moment before he let out a low chuckle. "Oh, come on, Shiyo. Don't be so dramatic. It's not like I'm going to die tomorrow. Even though I would love that."
Chuuya stayed silent while siblings continued to argue. He clenched his fists, trying to calm himself down a bit, but it wasn't helping. The tension in the room grew thicker as Chuuya lost his patience. He couldn't bear their bickering anymore, his voice cutting through the air.
"I am done listening to this! Your whole personality is based on you wanting to die! If you want to die so damn much, then do it already!" He turned around, ready to leave the room that started to suffocate him, but before leaving, he turned around and looked directly at Dazai. "But just to let you know, I will not accompany you in your suicide mission." After that, he stormed outside.
Dazai looked at the door where Chuuya once stood, his lips slightly parted.
"Don't worry, he'll come back. He just needs to calm down.."She ruffled his hair gently.
"Who says I'm worried? Chuuya is all bark but no bite. But just when I think I figured him out, he does something unusual, like now. Why'd he become so angry about me dying? He knows well enough to know that's my biggest wish."
Shiyo chuckles softly. "Oh Dazai, you may figure out what most people can't even get their heads around, but when it comes to human emotions, you truly are oblivious."
Dazai started stuttering, almost seeing a bit flustered. "Never mind that! How about you tell me what's really important, like how the hell am I going to seal that and save the world?"
"That is something I don't know," she says, shaking her head slightly. "You have to find that on your journey." She smiled softly, her eyes filled with ancient wisdom. "But fear not, Dazai. You won't be alone. Chuuya shall accompany you as well."
" Eh? Wait, wait," he said, standing up from his chair. " Journey? Chuuya coming along? How about you slow down a bit, sister?"Dazai paced nervously, his mind racing with questions and doubts.
"Dazai, you know this can't wait." She looked at him as he continued to pace around. "You have to go. Along the way, you will find out more. Now stop being a baby and go apologise to Chuuya.." Shiyo stood up as well. "Once you apologise, the two of you will pack everything you need for this journey and leave."
Dazai couldn't believe this. She's talking about this like it's nothing. How is he supposed to know where to go? Or what is he to look for? And the worst part is that he has to go with Chuuya of all people. Not like he knows a lot of people anyway, but still! He even has to apologise to him. For being honest?
"Dazai." Shiyo said it with a hint of anger in her voice.
" Fine! I'm going." he shouted before walking outside.
Chuuya was sitting up on a tree, his eyes closed. He admits that he overreacted. But he wasn't wrong. He never understood how Dazai couldn't see that he was worried about him.
"Stupid Dazai." Chuuya murmured.
"Just when I decided to be a bigger man and apologise, you decided to call me stupid and ruin everything." Dazai sighed as he walked towards the tree, his hands in his pockets.
Chuuya opened his eyes and looked at Dazai, his expression unreadable. "Oh, please, I guarantee it was Shiyo that made you come and apologize. " he said, his voice low. "You always do shit like this, and then you act surprised when I get upset."
Dazai shrugged, his eyes never leaving Chuuya's face. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said, his voice dripping with false innocence. "I'm just being honest, it's your fault you can't control your emotions."
"I don't see what's wrong with being upset with you constantly talking about dying!" He jumped down the tree, now standing face to face with Dazai. "If you don't give a flying fuck about how I feel, shouldn't you at least think about Shiyo's feelings?"
Dazai smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, I see how it is." he smirked proudly. "So, you're finally admitting that you're just a big softie under all that toughness, huh?"
"Stop it! I had enough of you!" Chuuya's eyes flashed with anger. He turned around, but before he could leave, Dazai grabbed his arm gently.
"Hey, hey," Dazai said, his voice low and teasing. "Don't be like that, Chuuya. I'm just trying to help you confront your feelings."
Chuuya's face turned bright red, and he struggled against Dazai's grip, but Dazai held him fast, his smirk never wavering. It seemed like he loved seeing Chuuya all flustered.
"Fine, I will stop teasing you now." He smiled slightly. "I came here to apologise, and that's what I am going to do." He lets go of Chuuya's arm before kneeling before him. "I sincerely apologise for being honest and making you upset." He said, taking his hand as he gently kissed it.
"Hey, stop playing games with me!" Chuuya pushed Dazai before taking a few steps back, his face slightly red. "I get it! Now that you have finished with your little game, you can say whatever you want. You didn't come just to apologise, that's for sure." He crossed his arms, looking frustrated.
"Ah, Chuuya knows me too well." Dazai chuckled as he stood up from the ground, brushing off the dirt from his clothes. "Alright, let's talk for real while we walk back home."
Dazai explained everything to Chuuya as they walked back home.
"So, what now? You expect me to go on an adventure with you?" Chuuya said, looking over at Dazai.
"Well, I wouldn't call it adventure. After all, you are going to be there." Dazai pushed Chuuya playfully with his shoulder. "But it has to be done. I have to leave this place in order to get more information on how to save us all."
"And Shiyo thought it would be a great idea if I came along, huh?" Chuuya murmured.
"I did, actually." Shiyo chuckled while sitting on the doorstep. "I know Chuuya will be there for my dear little brother. Knowing how Dazai is, I believe you are the only person to keep him in check." She smiled softly as she stood up. "Now, I have packed everything for you two."
"You really want us to leave that bad, huh?" Dazai walked to his sister, grabbing the bag that she had packed for them.
"I don't," she said, gently rubbing his cheek with her thumb. "But I know it's necessary."
Chuuya watched Shiyo carefully, walking slowly towards the siblings. He took another bag that was sitting on the doorstep.
"Please be good and have a safe journey." Shiyo wrapped her arms around the boys, squeezing them tightly. "We shall see each other again in the near future. But don't worry, I won't stop watching over you."
As they hugged her back, they could feel her love and concern for them, and they knew that they would always be safe under her watchful eye.
Shiyo's magic could manifest as a fire butterfly, which would appear whenever they called for her.
"We'll be good, Shiyo." they promised, their voices muffled against her shoulder.
Shiyo smiled softly before letting go of them. She called upon her magic, summoning the fire butterfly to her side. The creature appeared instantly, its wings glowing brightly as it hovered over the boys. "She will be there whenever you need it. Just call my name."
The boys looked at the butterfly with amazement, like it was their first time seeing it. They nodded slightly.
"So, do you at least know where we should go first?" Dazai asked, raising an eyebrow.
Shiyo nodded. "Yes. There's a place called Arkala. There is a person who might be able to help you on your journey."
"Arkala, huh? Then what are we waiting for?" Chuuya looked over at Dazai.
"Alright, let's save humanity. I hope we won't die before that.."Dazai giggled mischievously before both of them walked away.
