Nathanael's POV:
Ten… I've had to endure ten more fruitless interrogations after Clarice's. With Sir Canagan breathing down our necks. It's a miracle we wrapped things up without fault.
Sitting next to a literal ticking time bomb might have been more reposing. Assuming the next few days will carry on like this… My chances of sitting on that throne are dwindling by the second.
And Lord have mercy! I still need to have a talk with Ava… Especially since she's scheduled for questioning tomorrow. The odds she'll take what I have to say well are very slim, but still… There are things in life we simply need to hear, regardless of whether we want to or not.
I still can't grasp what Rosemary meant when she'd suggested to be nicer to Ava. I thought I was already being so. I thought I've always been so.
Yet it never seemed to work. Ava still looks at me with fear, just like the others. The only times she's ever been bold in my presence were the times she'd lost control over her emotions.
