Chapter 81 - 2) Boring School Day

[Peter]

I was fast asleep, the sound of my phone going off waking me up. I lethargically reached for my phone, pulling it to my face to turn the alarm off and check my notifications. I pushed myself up on the bed and rubbed my eyes and started to look at all my new messages and such.

It wasn't long before Aunt May screamed for me, "Peter! Wake up!" From downstairs.

"Don't worry; I'm awake!" I replied groggily, getting out of bed and putting on my slippers. I ended up getting only a few hours of sleep; what can I say? Crime waits for no man. I think that makes sense. Being a student while also being a superhero is tough; I would not recommend it for anyone, but it's not like I can go into an early retirement or hiatus. At this point I might as well follow through.

I did my morning routine which involved brushing my teeth and washing my face before heading down for breakfast, which was eggs and bacon today. After that I take a shower and get ready for school. I use extra soap since my suit gets really sweaty quickly, and I have to swing around in it for hours, so it's probably for the best I use extra.

I was just about to leave my room with my backpack over my shoulder, but I couldn't look away from my comfy bed; surely a few minutes of lying down wouldn't hurt?

"Peter, hurry up; you'll miss your bus at this rate!" Aunt May reminded me from the bottom of the stairs. I sighed before leaving my room and heading down the stairs, passing Aunt May.

"Love you, Aunt May," I replied while opening the door.

"You too, Peter," she responded with a smile.

I waved goodbye before closing the door and started to head towards the bus stop, which was about a 10-minute walk away, though it felt like forever. I was so tired that all I could think about was dreaming and sleeping. I really didn't want to go in today, but that's just life. The neighbourhood was pretty quiet; everyone was still probably fast asleep at this time in the morning. Lucky. It wasn't long before I reached the bus stop and the bus arrived.

I entered and sat somewhere near the back next to the window. Due to all the crime fighting, I don't get time to do all my homework, so I pulled out a small piece of paper filled with different math questions. It was only simultaneous equations, so I worked through it pretty quickly.

The ride to school is about 45 minutes, so I had more than enough time, so for the most part I was just looking through the window wishing I could just swing to school, but I have a limit to my webs. I found that out the hard way on my way home. You'd think a life as a superhero would have a more eventful morning, but Stark made school my top priority. I used to hate school because of the bullying, but now I find it boring, especially when I could be out there kicking ass or improving my suit at the lab.

Eventually we reached the stop, so I picked up my bag and exited the bus along with other students, and outside was Harry waiting for me.

"Hey Peter, how are you this wonderful morning?" Harry exclaimed flamboyantly.

"Alright, though I'm extremely tired again." I replied.

"You really need to fix your sleep schedule; you're practically dead every day now. What's going on?" Harry told me.

"I had a late night, and now I'm just trapped in the shadow dimension. I can't fix my sleep no matter what I do," I told him. It wasn't a complete lie; after all, I'm up late every night fighting crime, so I can't fix my sleep schedule.

Me and Harry walked up towards school together, talking about the most random stuff that was funny to us for some reason. Morning classes went on for what felt like an eternity, compared to the adrenaline rush of being out there swinging around as the mighty Spider-Man. Lunchtime couldn't come quicker; the sound of the bell was like an angel singing.

I sat down at the same old table. Recently I noticed how everyone had claimed a specific place for them and their friends, like it was their territory. Elaine and her friends were towards the far left, while we were somewhere in the middle, having to share with others. After all, it was just me and Harry since the start of middle school.

"Just because Elaine is at cheerleader practice doesn't mean you have to look like you want to hang yourself; surely my company isn't that bad?" Harry said to me as he sat down next to me, placing his bag at his feet.

"No, no, you're passable entertainment; don't worry," I replied with a small grin.

"Wow, I see how it is. I'm nothing compared to Elaine anymore, is that it? Maybe you'll talk to me more if I start kissing you," replied Harry.

"Eww, gross. I don't want to catch the Harry virus." I responded, looking away from him and giving him a side eye.

"I mean, it seems to be the only way to compete with your new girlfriend! I mean seriously, how did you, of all people, get her?" Teased Harry.

"My overwhelming charisma, obviously; you should start taking notes." I mocked.

"Alright, calm down; don't start getting all cocky." Replied Harry. "Guess who's a hot shot now he has a girlfriend," he added in a silly voice, to which I laughed.

"Don't worry; you'll find someone... in, like, 50 years." I replied.

"Oh fuck you," grinned Harry. "Hey, want to grab a coffee in town after school? You've been very distant lately, and I don't like Elaine getting all the attention. We haven't hung out in almost 3 months now; the only time we talk is at lunch." Asked Harry.

A part of me wanted to say I was busy, but I remember what that man mourning Black Bolt had said. In the future my funeral would be the same, only my long-lost friend Harry instead. Knowing nothing about me for years and unable to even shed a tear at my grave as i woukd be a completely different person. I didn't want that. Hell, Harry didn't deserve that.

"Yeah, sounds like a plan," I replied with a smile.

"Busy again... wait? You agreed? Woah, what's up with today's Peter?" joked Harry.

"Alright, calm down, jackass." I replied.

"Meet at Belchunkos at 5ish?" Asked Harry.

"Sounds good to me," I said. "What type of name is Belchunkos?" I joked.

"Hey, the name may be questionable, but the coffee is amazing. I won't tolerate any Belchunkos slander!" Replied Harry.

I laughed.
