Chapter 185 - Holy-

Shit!

The sight looks like a battlefield, and they haven't even started physically fighting yet. Their magical presence is so powerful that the gravity and the force that it exhumes heavily affects their surroundings, pushing everyone to the ground. Amy notices sign of a food fight before the titular Mess Hall became literal. The walls and ceiling are covered in food. Tables and chairs are put together to make makeshift barricades. Violet mentioned that they have to walk on eggshells when Rufus and Leon are even in the same vicinity and their fights terrify everyone to the point that no one could stop it, not even the teachers. Only Melissa is able to talk some sense into them.

It looks like she's right.

Amy stared at Melissa who is watching the pair back and forth before they locked eyes. It looks like her usual methods aren't working. They are both too angry to listen to reason.

"Where are the professors?" Amy asked and Paige pointed to a nearby wall. Several adults are unconscious and uninjured. This is quite the sight. Oh my god, they are insane.

Amy felt her scales in her pocket but refrained from pulling them out and instead wore her tactical gloves.

"I swear I got to do everything around here, don't I?" Amy grumbled and notices Jennifer slowly walk to Leon without any fear. She watched as Leon began to slowly calm down after the two of them talk but is still guarded against Rufus who is still hostile.

Amy turns her attention to Rufus. Melissa walks towards to Rufus and persuade him to back down but upon seeing Jennifer, his aura flared up. Melissa stepped back out of fear of his aura burning her. Left with no choice, Amy calmly walked up to Rufus and put her hands on his shoulders.

Snapping out of it, he stared at Amy before rolling his eyes to Leon, but she grasps his face toward hers, "Don't look at them. Focus on me" she says in the most soothing tone she could muster.

Rufus finally calms down and stares at her with slight regret, "Sorry," he murmured.

With a sigh of relief, she dropped her hands. They sting but it's bearable.

"Take him to his room. We'll deal with everything here." Melissa says to her.

Then Amy grabbed Rufus's wrist and head to the dorm and look back to see that Jennifer is doing the same. Jennifer gave an apologetic look to Amy before they left.

"Alright! Anyone still standing, let's clean everything up!"

The remaining students nodded and use their magic to clean the mess hall. She feels bad for leaving Melissa to deal with the mess, but Rufus's temper needs to be quelled first.

How could this happen?

Leon is a spitfire and a rebel against authority and society especially at his young age. However, he begins earnestly trying to be responsible after everything that happened last year. So, this change is a huge regression on his part. A love potion can change his feelings for Jennifer, but the side effects shouldn't ruin his relationship with Rufus to this extent, right?

Giving Ethan and Paige a look, she decides to ask them a couple of questions.

"How often does this happen?"

"Not much but everyone is on their toes. Prince Leon destroyed a fountain without casting any spells and nearly destroyed the dorm and we mean nearly. This is by far the worst."

Of course, it is because of the damage.

"What happened here? Who started this fight?"

"The Prince did, miss. He kept goading about you joining his side and then this happened."

This is grounds for expulsion, but it is highly unlikely considering their status.

She wouldn't dare to look at Rufus. She is surprisingly not angry at him because she understood the frustrations he is going through but is perplexed at his recent attitude. It could be because he is an impulsive teenager unlike his story version who is in his late 30s to early 40s.

"Sorry for making you clean up our mess." Rufus says apologetically while they are still walking.

"We'll talk about this when we get back." she replies without looking at him.

Amy learned so much during the past six years of knowing Rufus Valerian as opposed to his story self.

Thinking back, she recalls the reason of her dislike for Rufus Valerian.

In the story, he is seen as megalomaniacal, psychotic and obsessed with getting anything he wanted. To put it simply, he is insane, obsessed with power and eager to rid the world of what he believes are parasites and sees the worst in everything. His experiences are seen as justifiable, but she had trouble believing that sometimes. He has killed without remorse and tolerate and even encourage certain behaviors. He uses his power to take away the free will of so many people and manipulated those whose free will he hasn't removed, and many people are heavily affected by this. Aron and so many people worldwide basically turn into monsters in order to kill a monster. When Rufus died in the original story, he does admit that he didn't feel anything and is numb to even care about consequences anymore. His hubris got him killed and his vision passed on to his surviving followers. He would rather have the world destroyed if his dreams are unrealized and they know that. His followers began working with the Cambion's followers to complete his mission.

This is not the same Rufus. No, this one is more temperamental, impulsive, sensitive and emotionally unavailable underneath his polite exterior. Many knew at this point that this is a false front. But he has hid himself quite well despite his outbursts. She had counted on him being the villain because he is critical to the plot, more than the Cambion. Now, she has no idea what to do with him anymore.

After walking to his room, he sat at his seat and Amy didn't waste any time to examine Rufus for any injuries or impurities.

Her eyes narrowed as she used her ability to see his soul.

It has grown darker than the last time she has saw it. Now that she looked at his room and his expression, she could see that he's working himself. Viola's disappearance hasn't even been over three days, yet the investigation notes and boards are filled to the brim. This is weeks of research.

"I'm impressed. Did you find anything?" she asked.

"Plenty of leads and the Olive guard are working on it." he replied tiredly.

"You are going to work yourself to death at this rate."

He chuckled in response; his lighthearted response definitely shows his two-faced personality. "I was hoping I'd find her before you to be honest. I wanted to see if I could do it before you arrive."

Amy sighed softly as she continue to examine Rufus, "Don't treat my sister's investigation as a competition." she scolded lightly, "Go to sleep. You need it."

Rufus's expression looked gloomier, and Amy used her ability on him to get him to give in the temptations to sleep and she led him to his bed where he fell asleep.

I judged you too harshly and for that, I'm sorry. Amy thought before leaving the room.
