Chapter 2 - 0. The beginning of a despair

Akame Ga Kill! Zero Prologue

As the Empire that thrived for the last thousand of years slowly succumbs, the nation's intelligence department were concerned so they established a unit that specialises on the assassination unit.

Its members were made of innocent children who were raised as soldiers. Once they all matured and became stronger, they would be sent to do immoral assassinations, thinking they are the heroes of the story.

—Thinking they served justice.

The Children believed by killing those who were taught and accused to be evil, they were bringing about happiness for the nation.

They all had no idea of the cruel faith that awaited them.

—Akame Ga Kill! ZERO.

Zero is the absolute starting point of every story that is told throughout humanity or will ever be told. In fact, everything from the smallest of numbers to the strongest of deities started at a point that labelled zero.

There is no denying that there is never something that began above the starting point.

The story of Night Raid and the overall fate of the Great corrupted Empire began somewhere. It may not look like it but every catalyst always comes from unexpected places.

—Nonetheless, the story of Akame ga Kill! began somewhere.

She kneeled down with grief, her red eyes appearing more meaningful.

—This was really bad.

The moonlight reflected her actions. Laid on her arms was a head and on her thighs was the motionless body - beheaded by the blade that laid on the ground next to her.

It was irreversible, there was nothing she could do to undo the biddings.

She listened to "father" but not her heart.

Was this the right thing to do?

—She reflected on herself.

That is what she was taught all along growing up. She was raised in a way that all her purity shall fade away. It wasn't her fault, was it?

She had a choice, she thought she could be happy.

At this age, she "saved" the empire according to those around her.

No matter how many times, she was told that she struggled to get how it "brings happiness to the people".

Finally confronted her actions but feeling the opposite of what she expected from "family".

"Why... am I not happy at all...?"

It was clear why she didn't feel it. The head had a smile on her face.

The target died without the fear of the young girl that took her life, instead she felt proud.

—"I really did love you..."

Even though it was nothing but a severed lifeless head, She saw it speak, regardless if the mouth didn't move.

She cried and cried.

She cried.

It was the only right emotion for a turning point like this.

It was an "achievement" for the rest, especially "father" but to the young girl, the feeling was purely agony. She recognised the guilt that spread throughout her body. Her face looked hideous as the realisation began to hit more than ever. She wished she could..., but

—There was no turning back.

This is who she was meant to become, Emotions never matter.

"Martha!"

At this moment, Akame gave up her purity to become the "assassin" for the Grand Empire that lasted for a thousand years. This was who she is now. She will never be pure ever again.
