Wei Lin studied the map, her brow furrowing. "The Hollow Peaks… that's at least a week's journey."
The elder nodded. "A week through treacherous lands. You will face more than bandits and beasts. The Veil twists time and space, warping the minds of those who enter."
Mara exhaled sharply. "Wonderful. Let's add reality-bending nightmares to the list."
The elder handed Wei Lin a small vial filled with shimmering liquid. "This will help anchor you within the Veil. Drink sparingly, for its effects are fleeting."
Selene raised an eyebrow. "And what happens if we run out?"
The elder's expression darkened. "Then you will lose yourselves to the Veil's illusions, trapped between worlds."
Darian crossed his arms. "Sounds like we don't have much choice."
As they prepared to leave the village, the villagers gathered around them, silent and solemn. Some whispered prayers, while others placed small charms and talismans into their hands. The weight of expectation hung heavy in the air.
