Chapter 280 - Mystic Eyes of Death Perception

Chapter 280 - Mystic Eyes of Death Perception

Everyone was stunned, grappling with confusion.

Their shock wasn't just from Mahiro's defeat of Udaeus but from how it died.

It was bizarre.

Udaeus's body bore no injuries, yet it crumbled to ash.

Simply unbelievable.

Attack that minor wouldn't kill even a normal monster, let alone a behemoth like Udaeus.

Where Udaeus once stood, only a magic stone nearly three meters tall remained, proof of its subjugation.

Mahiro glanced at the drops.

This time, facing the Level 6 Monster Rex, his luck seemed to have spiked—drop items littered the ground.

For now, he ignored the Loki Familia's bewildered expressions.

It wasn't that Mahiro couldn't have killed Udaeus conventionally, but its vitality was formidable.

Grinding it down would've meant chipping away at its endurance bit by bit.

Having already deciphered Udaeus's attack patterns, further entanglement felt pointless.

Mahiro had no interest in wasting time, so he used Mystic Eyes of Death Perception to end it in one strike.

"Mahiro, you did it!" Tiona cheered, breaking the silence.

She rushed toward Mahiro, her face alight with excitement.

"This is Udaeus, a Level 6 Monster Rex! You took it down alone!"

Her eyes gleamed with disbelief.

"I told you," Mahiro said, a hint of exasperation in his voice.

"Why does it feel like you didn't believe I could do it?"

"Because it's unreal!" Tiona replied, sticking out her tongue sheepishly.

Having faced Udaeus herself, she knew how grueling it was to defeat it solo.

Despite her faith in Mahiro, doubt had gnawed at her, fearing something might go wrong.

But Mahiro had truly subjugated Udaeus.

"What did you do to Udaeus?" Bete demanded, glaring at Mahiro with stubborn defiance.

"That attack shouldn't have killed it!"

He hadn't expected Mahiro to succeed, yet the evidence was undeniable.

Still, that final strike—too simple, too light—defied reason.

"Bete, that's enough," Finn said sternly.

"An adventurer's abilities are private, tied to themselves and their Familia."

"Questioning like this breaks Guild rules."

Mahiro had shared much with the Loki Familia willingly, but Bete's probing crossed a line.

"But, it's Udaeus!" Bete protested.

"We barely beat it back then, smashing it to bits with Riveria's magic to finish it off."

"Yet this guy's single attack, which wouldn't even kill a regular monster, took it down?"

"Something's off!"

Finn was curious too, but forcing answers wasn't an option.

"If you're so curious, why not find out yourself?" Mahiro said, raising the sword and pointing it at Bete.

"Let me land one strike on you, and you'll see why Udaeus fell so easily."

Bete's face reddened with anger. "You—"

If a Monster Rex like Udaeus couldn't withstand Mahiro, what chance did he have?

"Enough, Bete," Finn said, clearing his throat.

"Are you still doubting Mahiro's strength after this?"

"Soloing a Level 6 Monster Rex like Udaeus? Even Ottar hasn't done that."

Bete fell silent.

Deep down, he'd acknowledged Mahiro's prowess, but admitting it—especially to a rival—stung.

He didn't want to bow his head, not even in defeat.

"Bete, apologize," Finn ordered, his tone cold.

Bete had been hostile to Mahiro throughout their journey.

Finn had chalked it up to youthful rivalry, but this was too far.

Seeing Finn's expression, Bete stiffened.

He clashed with everyone—even Riveria or Gareth—but Finn's authority was absolute.

"...Sorry," Bete muttered through gritted teeth, turning away to avoid Mahiro's gaze.

Mahiro stayed calm, though inwardly he smirked.

Bete had been a source of amusement all along.

"There's no secret to hide," Mahiro said, shrugging.

"It's just my skill."

He blinked, and his eyes shifted to ice-blue, glinting like frozen gems.

"Such beautiful eyes," Tiona said, leaning in curiously.

"Like jewels!"

Finn, Gareth, and the others peered at Mahiro's eyes with interest.

Ais stared with a flicker of longing, her fingers twitching as if to grab him.

"These are the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception," Mahiro explained.

"They let me kill Udaeus in one blow."

He spoke openly, unconcerned with concealing his power.

Even in DxD, he'd been candid about his abilities, and here was no different.
