A middle aged woman was walking past the dimly lit corridors, her face was covered by worry, she had a jug on her hands, wishing she could reach where she was heading to as soon as possible, her shoes clicking soundly on the ground. She walked past two guards stationed at the entrance, they moved aside letting her through, she then pushed the door open and left the guard to shut it. "My princess! Your highness, where are you?" She searched around the wide room to no avail, her head swiftly turned once she heard water trickling, her feet led her to the bath chambers after placing the jug on the table. "My princess! Oh thank God" she pressed her chest, relieved to find her there, her body deepened in the steamy water inside the tub. "What is it, Caro? Is everything alright?" The princess sat up a little bit, exposing her shoulders and only the little half part of her two white mounds.
"My princess, a letter came in for you, the King…." Caro paused, her eyes darting around the room, trying to find the right words not to shock her lady. The princess frowned "Tell me Caro, same old letters?" there was a pure anger flushing in her eyes as she asked. Caro swallowed, "I am afraid yes, your highness. And unlike the old ones, I think your father is interested in this one, he said yes without a blink" she explained, fidgeting with her hands. The princess abruptly got up on her feet making the water spill everywhere "What!? How could father do that? Was mother there too? What did mother say?" She couldn't believe what met her ears, how could her father do this to her?. Caro sighed, reaching out a folded bathrobe and draped it around her shoulders, covering her nakedness.
"The Queen was there, and she had nothing to refute this time, she seemed ...pleased as well" Caro led her back to the room, the princess almost fell to her knees when she heard this and just let her body slump on a couch the next second, it's like all the energy and hope that was left inside her body was pulled away from her, tears blurring her eyes instantly. "My princess please don't cry, calm down first-'' before Caro could finish she was cut off, "Who is it this time? Who came to claim me? Who is my father selling me to?" She wanted to know so bad, what man was able to heighten her father's greed for power this time? It has to be someone very powerful that even her mother has agreed this time around.
Caro looked away from her, "It's… …it's crown prince Adrian of the Red nation" the poor princess's face paled instantly "No! Tell me it's not him please!" She shook her head letting the tears that her eyes were trying to contain spill rapidly. "Oh, I'm so sorry my dear" Caro felt so bad for her, she might be her maid only but to Caro, princess meant a lot, she took care of her since she was born, she literally watched her grow up into such a wonderful young lady who should be fought for instead of getting sold off for power. However even a princess knows that this was her fate as a princess, she would get married off someday to any Prince or King out there, but she never wanted this specific man to be the one, no matter what. And now that her father has already given her consent and so did her mother, there was no way she could stop this. She could only sit there and cry, hugging herself. Caro went to sit beside her and the poor girl quickly pounced on her sobbing loudly. "I am done for Caro! If I marry that beast then I am done for!! God! I'm done for!!!" Caro held her and patted her with helplessness and pain in her eyes, there was nothing she could do although she wished to.
Morning came and she was escorted to the dining hall by her knight, she looked at her parents for a while before making her way to the massively filled table, "Good morning father, mother" she then spared a glance at her two good for nothing brothers "Brothers" she muttered, giving them a node to which they returned as well, nonchalantly. "Adaline, how are you my daughter?" She wished she could tell how she really was to her father, but all for what? Nothing! He wasn't going to change his decisions anyway. She faced her father with her usual designated kind smile, which she hates so much "I have been very well father, thank you" a low chuckle came across the table, "I am sure you are going to be even much better soon, sister. Finally father accepted the man I brought for you, you sure gave me a headache for a while" he said proudly, his face mocking her, making anger brew on her chest for him. The King cleared his throat "Stop it, Harry!" He reprimanded him, Harry raised his hands up and continued eating. "Adaline my dear, like your brother said I have finally found you a-" she let her knife and fork drop on her plate, making a loud disturbing voice, making all of them stare at her. "You mean… a man to sell me off to?" She faced her whole family, she was disappointed that all of them shared the same thoughts about the matter. "Adaline watch your mouth! Where are your manners?" Her mother scolded her, but this only added fuel to the fire they ignited inside her.
"Am I wrong, mother? You all are planning to sell me off to this beast of a Prince for what? More power? How could you do this Harry when we all know how crazy that man is? And you father, just how much power do you need till you get satisfied?" She roared at them, unleashing her anger even though it was soon followed by her endless tears. She felt her chest tightening and her throat was in so much pain as she continued to talk. "Adaline! How dare you talk to me like that!" This time it was her father who spoke to her. "No father, today I am not going to listen to anyone! I don't want to get married to him. Find me anybody else, anybody else but crown prince Adrian!" She got up from her seat slamming the table, her parents were too stunned to even react, their calm and always collected daughter was acting out of character today, leaving them speechless. "And who says you get to decide anything about this? If our father says you are getting married to him then you are getting married to him! And that is final, Adaline!" Andrew, her second brother, spoke arrogantly. Oh how she hated these worthless two brothers of hers! She wished she wasn't born in the same family as them.
"I will not Andrew! Father, mother! Please think it over! Are you two so tired of me that you are sending me off to him? I'd rather die!" She received a tight slap as soon as she finished her words, "Mother!" She cried out facing the woman who was supposed to be on her side, she was her mother!. "Go back to your room, Adaline, now!" The woman added with deadly eyes, Adaline stared at her father and brothers "I will never forgive you all for this! Any of you!" She ran out of the dining hall, wiping her tears. Why was her own family so cruel to her? Was it her fault that she was born a female? And now she hates the fact that she is a female!. She swung the door to her room open and went to drop herself on her bed, her hair sparsing over her head like a flower carpet, crying her eyes out. Her heart was in so much pain and so was her throat, she wished she could pull it out of her chest so that the pain would go away.
After crying for a while, she got up and went to her drawer. She took out her family spell book. There were a couple of spells that were passed down from one generation to another in their family. Her great grandmother gave her the book since all of her brothers were not interested in learning witchcraft from the books. Growing up she spent her time learning different spells, as a witch she needed to know a lot of them just in case they come in handy in the future. She turned the pages restlessly until she found the one she was looking for, she let out a deep breath "I won't let you control me anymore father.
Not you, not my stupid brothers and definitely not my own mother!" She stood by the window staring at the darkness outside, her eyes determined to do whatever it was that she was planning to do. "Don't blame me for this, you asked for it" she took a bag and filled in somethings that she wanted and then picked her clock from the hanger before she walked outside her room, carefully not to let anybody catch her escaping, until she was able to get outside the castle with her blue roan horse. She spared a last glance at her home, letting out a single tear "I guess I was never meant to be here, this place isn't for me" she uttered before turning and riding away, pulling her clock further down to cover her face nicely.
