Late night, Pei Family villa.
Pei Zhiyao had already brought Wen Mian home.
On the way back, the two hardly said a word. Wen Mian was still shaken by the events of the day.
Pei Zhiyao, however, couldn't help but feel heartache for her.
During their drive home, Pei Zhiyao repeatedly asked about Wen Mian's condition. Each time, without exception, she brushed him off.
She said she was fine, simply because she didn't want him to worry.
Now, sitting on the couch at home, Wen Mian finally seemed to regain her composure.
"I'm fine."
Pei Zhiyao leaned in once more.
This time, before Pei Zhiyao could speak, Wen Mian quickly responded.
It made Pei Zhiyao freeze for a moment, but he soon recovered.
He couldn't help but laugh through the mixture of emotions, though his heart ached more than anything.
"Sorry for being late today."
He clasped her hand, a mist of emotion clouding his eyes.
Wen Mian could tell—he too was somewhat shaken.
