Yang Yi and Aaron's relationship was definitely not that of a normal superior and subordinate, as the difference in their levels was vast and immense. To a great extent, Yang Yi was an unequal collaborator with Aaron.
Unequal, yet still collaborators. The reason for their collaborative relationship was that Yang Yi had his own power.
While it couldn't compare to the CIA, the power in Yang Yi's hands made him valuable to use. Thus, even though Yang Yi didn't hold a high position, he seemed to stand aloof.
Yang Yi didn't even need to meet with Aaron in person; he only had to make a call, tell Aaron he was injured, wanted to rest in Europe for a while, and handle some matters that needed to be addressed promptly. Then he would have effectively asked for leave.
What matters needed to be completed didn't require much hinting; mentioning them casually, Aaron would understand.
