Wu Yanran hid in her room, peeking through the crack of the door until she saw Jiang Yan and Manman walk in; her heart suddenly took flight.
"What's wrong with you? The guests are in the house; why aren't you hurrying out to help Dad boil water for tea to entertain them?" Chu Yue found her at the door of the room and complained discontentedly.
"It's a mess!" Wu Yanran, pale-faced, exclaimed.
"What?"
Wu Yanran didn't know how to explain to her husband that she had taken advantage of her privileges that morning at breakfast with her brother-in-law and his wife, taking over the table meant for her husband's cousins. But she vividly remembered Jiang Yan, who left angrily that morning, with that relenting look in his eyes.
