[POV Sunny Haruto]
"Great job Mudkip, another win to the tally!" I squeal out rubbing his face to mine.
The little critter enjoying the attention, softly growled back with a content face.
Chuckling at this something felt wrong about winning.
Not that it was an unfair battle but mainly because of the type of people I've been battling so far. It's not to say they were weak, but Pokemon battling clearly wasn't their priority or it was another rookie trainer with far less experience than me.
Due to the rules set by the battle club, I'd never face any real level deficit unless I accepted a battle request from a stronger opponent.
For a better representation, my battles felt like a boxer who's padding his score.
But unlike dodging strong fights, it wasn't possible for me to get a higher opponent.
Putting Mudkip down and heading towards the shopping sector, I check my points.
[Battle-Club-Net/Profile]
Name: Sunny Haruto
Pokemon:
Mudkip
Mankey
Battle Tier: Bronze
Record: Wins 24-0 Loses
Battle Points: 24
[Battle-Club-Net/Profile]
While it may look decent, this was the ranking for all Bronze-tier people, so everybody here is using weaker-level Pokemon. On top of most dedicated trainers now in the final few months of their journey, they would be too busy.
So it's more of a meh.
I had to ask Don George about "smurfs" but he just shrugged it off.
This was a learning space and if you are losing to a trainer with a similar level Pokemon, then it was just a skill issue. Plus it could serve as a learning experience for the loser which was a truly valid point.
The other positives are the battle points though.
They can land you better discounts for your payments, buy training equipment, pokeblocks and more importantly some priority when using some rooms.
After a few minutes, I arrive at the little store.
It was like an ice cream shop that was built into the wall.
Spotting an old man at the counter a warm smile could be seen on my face.
"Hello Grandpa, I'm here to buy my daily set of [Bundle Pokeblocks (Small)]"
The old man who was at the front quickly greeted me with a happy expression "Hello Sunny, you too Mudkip." He responds as he slips a single kibble to Mudkip.
Seeing this Mudkip gladly takes the treat as he accepts the pats from the man.
This guy was the Medium-Tier Pokeblock maker and I've been buying the bundle of small, low to high-tier Pokeblocks. This a little was cheaper than buying low and medium tier Pokeblocks seperately which was nice.
The prices didn't include if the Pokeblock was type-specific or Pokemon-specific when made in mind.
A small, low-tier Pokeblock had a standard price of ₱80, with the discount it was ₱64.
A small, medium-tier Pokeblock was ₱180, with the discount being ₱144.
The bundle was three of each with a total of 10% discount which was pretty nice.
Over time such an amount would add up and would save me loads of money!
Taking my card and paying for the bundle, the old man gave me a case which I gratefully took. My current stock of low-tier Pokeblocks were 20.
My current setup was to feed Mudkip and Mankey two Pokeblocks a day. With standard food being so graciously sponsored by my parents...
'I'll go broke in about four more weeks in this persists, I'll test out the medium-tier Pokeblocks then slowly stop using them.' I though to myself.
This was more of an experiment for how it affected my Pokemon's growth.
It truly improved the training volume possible with increased stamina so there were merits.
Not too bad.
Storing the bundle in my bag and store it at home later. I started to exit the place and go to the Pokemon Centre to scan my Pokemon's progress.
With target battles, accuracy and physical training, they should have improved a bit.
...
"Here's your scan and Pokemon!" Nurse Joy exclaims with a smile.
Nodding and taking the paper, I see their two-week progress.
<|==Mudkip Page==|>
Pokemon: Mudkip
Level: 14
Type: Water
Ability: Torrent
Egg Moves: Mirror Coat, Barrier, Refresh
Moves: Growl, Tackle, Mud-Slap, Water Gun, Rock Throw (New), Rock Smash (New), Protect (New), Foresight (New)
<|==Mudkip Page==|>
'Level 14 nice! Wait, what is foresight?' I soon after question seeing the move in my Mudkip's move pool.
It didn't take long for me to remember it allowed fighting and normal-type attacks to hit ghosts.
A giddy smirk went on my face as Ghost Types couldn't escape my future Swampert's physical attacks with strength. I've already forgotten about this move but it randomly appeared which was a blessing.
Now Mankey...
<|==Mankey Page==|>
Pokemon: Mankey
Level: 8
Type: Fighting
Ability: Defiant
Egg Moves: Night Slash, Meditate,
Moves: Covet, Leer, Scratch, Fury Swipes, Low Kick (New), Close Combat (New)
<|==Mankey Page==|>
'Nice he learnt close combat, this was probably because of the Muay Thai lessons he has been receiving.'
The progress for two weeks was pretty amazing in itself, a single level-up isn't too bad.
Considering if we calculated this, it would take around 9 months to get him to evolve into a Primape.
Satisfied with the progress, I started to head home.
Before I could leave the Pokemon Center though, a man in a suit walked up to me and gave me a stare. Giving him a confused look he kept going towards my direction which gave me some red flags.
The man has slick-back ginger hair, black eyes and a sharp face.
Taking Mankey's Pokeball, I send him out.
With Mudkip already at my side on guard.
*Phsszst*
"Key!"
"Kipp!"
"You've got some lively Pokemon there, sir. My name is Colt and am offering you a job in place of my Lord. I'm sorry for awkwardly coming up to you like this, having a chat in a Pokemon Center is the best I can do without looking like a kidnapper." He explains with a sigh keeping a safe distance.
Thinking about his words, I chuckle inwardly at the latter part.
He was at least thoughtful of doing this in public.
Especially in a Pokemon Center where there would be cameras anywhere in case something were to happen to me.
"What's the job offer?" I ask curious.
To my surprise, his proper language quickly left as he started to talk more casually.
"My Lord, Nightcrest, watched one of your battles and learned of your talents. A positive is that he is loaded, but he is a bit uh, very eccentric? The job is position at one of his high-end restaurants as a Battle Server." He says to which I nod.
Working as a server who would battle some guests. I can remember a few of these guys in the anime as Ash always dined at expensive areas in some episodes.
But to put it simply, he wanted to show off that I worked there when I got popular later on.
Quite a funny turn of events but I'm still a little suspicious.
*Ding!*
A notification could be heard from my phone.
[A battle request from: Dante Nightcrest]
"Ah, that should be my master. He might be a quirky guy, but he's a sincere weirdo." Right after this he scoots up and says something in a sort of secretive manner. "Also the pay is 42 an hour."
He subtly mentions.
My eyes widen but soon after lock in.
"I agree," I respond instantly.
A few seconds after my words the both of us laugh.
"Hah that's great! Don't worry all tips given by the rich customers are all yours too." He says with a wide smirk.
Feeling his playful light elbows to my side, I couldn't help but uncontrollably smile.
He later explained that the pay would only apply until the next time the annual conference opens to trainers. Which was when I planned to leave anyways so it works out in the end.
Taking my time, I phoned my mother and father who when hearing the pay understood why I wanted to agree to this.
"Sunny I searched up the restaurant, over 18 ace trainers used to work there!" She exclaims in surprise.
Colt who was next to me showed me a thumbs up with a smirk.
The people mentioned were local celebrities in Saffron with them being quite popular.
'Damn, this is legit too.'
With that confirmed my parents even encouraged me to work there.
...
[A Few Hours Later (Battle Club)]
"Hello there sir Nightcrest!" I say doing a short bow.
The man had an extravagent purple cloak which was similar to Doflamingo's from One Piece. He looked at me with a glint in his eyes.
While his fashion choice was a bit questionable, his apparent wealth wasn't. The guy had blonde hair, bright green eyes and a round face.
Sir Nightcrest looked like he was in his fifties and was a bit chubby.
"Yohoho, It's a pleasure to meet you! Thank you for accepting my battle request, I assume Colt already asked you about working for my restaurant!" He says in an exuberant way.
"He has, I'm grateful for the opportunity." I humbly say.
There was no reason to be a dickhead like others when he's gonna be paying me that kind of money.
Plus being mean makes me too self-conscious.
Past Asian genes.
I get nervous taking a picture for a stranger...
"What a fine gentleman, lets head to the stadium now!"
Gladly following him, his wide smile was infectious. With Colt behind us, we got into positions on the already empty battlefield which he booked prior.
There were some spectators as this was a public area for other club members.
A referee who was already stationed here got ready.
"A battle between Sunny Haruto and Dante Nightcrest will proceed. This will be a one-on-one with the winner being whoever knocks the opponent out!"
Getting Mudkip's Pokeball out, it was time to impress.
I had to take this battle seriously.
"Send out your Pokemon." He says, to which we both send out our Pokemon.
"Lar Lar!"
"Kip!"
The two Pokemon growl out.
'A Larvitar huh...' My mind already went into overdrive.
It was a weak baby Pokemon but mine was as well.
Short stubby feet with its heavy-hitting move probably physical. It should also have some type of rock-launching move.
A strategy was already in my head.
Because I was the one challenged, I got the first move.
"Begin!"
"Mudkip use 50% [Water Gun] at Larvitars feet!" I coolly say.
Mudkip who was already prepared, didn't need any wind up. Instantly a gyser of water exited his mouth which was aimed towards the legs.
*Whoosh!*
"Larvitar, dodge and use [Ancient Power]!" Dante says which put all sorts of red flags into my head.
*Crack*
Multiple boulders were seized into the air.
"Mudkip, dodge backwards then hide behind the first rock!"
My commands didn't fall on deaf ears as Mudkip's twitched. The five rocks are now being sent hurling at Mudkip with a weird energy like psychic. With the leading one going head-on, a quick dash backwards made it hit the ground.
Seeing the opportunity, the mudfish dived onto the back of the rock.
The other boulders going in the same direction were just stacked on top and ended up missing.
*Crack*
This completely throws Larvitar and Dante off guard as he just marvelled at the decision. "How magnificent. I knew you were a talent that is waiting to bloom!" He shouts making me shiver a little at his words.
Very eccentric like Colt said.
"Larvitar use [Dragon Dance]!" I hear which made my face contort a bit.
"Mudkip, stay hidden and use [Barrier]."
With the cover, both Pokemon were able to gain some boosts. But it was clear to me which boost was the better one between the two. Fortunately for me, Mudkip still had a coordination advantage with four legs.
"Larvitar get close and use [Bite]!" He shouts.
Noticing the distance between the two, with Mudkip still out of the opponent's sight. There was some setting up to be had if he was attacking.
"Mudkip one more [Barrier]."
Larvitar enhancing its mouth with dark energy, proceeded to run forward, but this ended up as a mistake as the ground was all muddy from the first attack.
Making the poor little guy smack the floor.
*Thud*
"Oh no, my boy!" Dante shouts putting both hands on his face.
Thankfully as Mudkip finished his setup, the brave Larvitar persisted and ran forward with a newly acquired vigor.
"Mudkip use [Mud-Slap] on the eyes," I command.
Shortly after Mudkip wets his feet as he grabs some mud from the ground. Hearing the roaring Larvitar on the way, the mudfish peeks as if it were a CSGO match and hits the poor guy square in the face!
*Slap!*
"Tar?!" He shouts in confusion.
"Larvitar uhh!" Dante mumbles out unsure what to do.
"[Water Gun] now."
*Whoosh!*
The attack hit Larvitar square in the chest, quickly knocking it out.
"Winner, Mudkip and Sunny!" The referee shortly announces.

[A/N: There will be a time skip so don't worry, his journey will be happening in a few chapters. This is to just get him some funds for other stuff I want to do. So please bear with me if it's boring for you I apologise.
Sorry!
Also when you guys ask about my plan for this fanfic, is it like schedule or actual plot I'm writting?]
