Chapter 4 - Bestie

Zuri made her way home. "I don't have my key. What would I..."

She eyes shifted to something that looked metallic so, she bent over to take a look. Under the front door mat, was the spare key for her spare key.

"Mom must have put it here." She groaned in annoyance. "So that trip was a waste."

She said out loud and opened the door. She slipped in and locked the door. She closed the curtains and turned on the lights.

After debating on whether or not she should go to sleep, she decided to watch the stars at her backyard.

She went upstairs and came back with her Celestron NexStar 8SEA and set it up. She stared at the stars for an hour before retiring to bed.

Zuri woke up the next morning at four in the morning. Her mother still wasn't home and she had to go to work at six.

She spent an hour exercising before deciding it was time to leave. It was a Saturday after all and she worked in a coffeehouse as a barista.

She was the only female there among twelve men, which made her prone to s.e.x.u.a.l harassment. But, like any other problem, she dealt with them. She didn't forget to carry her keys this time. She turned off the lights, closed the curtains and blinds then, she carried her bag and left the house after locking up.

She left the spare key in a flower pot that had a much different design from the others so it would be easy for her mom to find it.

She took a cab to the coffeehouse and was pleased to see that no one had arrived yet.

"Morning Zuri." A guy with with brown hair greeted her, his hazel eyes shone with joy.

"Morning Kenzo." She smiled back. "The others haven't arrived yet, have they?"

"Apparently not." Kenzo wiped the tables.

Izumi Kenzo was Zuri's coworker and best friend. They were like two peas in a pod. He was her partner in crime, mentor and colleague who she could share anything with.

They both attended the same high school and just graduated. They had to wait for results before registering into a university and the break had only just started.
