The plan had no flaws.
The only flaw could be the person implementing the plan.
Medanzo was by no means so noble as to want to save the world; he simply didn't like being deceived. If someone tried to cheat or use him, he would retaliate twofold.
No matter who that person was.
So, he left.
Taking advantage of the polar night, he departed from the institute alone.
He traveled to Siberia by dog sled and went on to Moscow, gliding through the snow.

As it turned out, Medanzo's suspicions were correct. Right after he left the institute, someone began to track his whereabouts. He was marked by someone in a small town in Northern Siberia before even reaching Moscow; a retired agent from the KGB was following him.
How interesting.
Truly fascinating.
Someone actually wanted to track him.
Medanzo had never learned even a smidgen of spy craft.
He had no training whatsoever.
But his awareness of surveillance and counter-tracking could be compensated by intelligence.
