Finding out why Priscilla chose Penelope as the name for her child was not something Penny, Slater, or Mint expected. But somehow, hearing the explanation made sense. They had all heard the story she was referring to at least once.
"They say not to name something — be it a stuffed toy, an animal, or anything," Priscilla whispered. "Because if you do, you can't just let them go so easily. However, when I heard that story, the first thing that came to my mind was… It's a beautiful name for a girl."
A bitter chuckle escaped her. "Besides, my name's Priscilla, so we have the same first letter in our names. That's when I knew, I couldn't just neglect this child."
The child in her womb had brought a little candle into her dark, inescapable room. The child's light was, at first, very faint, almost unnoticeable. But as time passed, the flame grew bigger and brighter, until Priscilla's world didn't seem so bad at all.
