Dragging herself up, Aurora also noticed how hungry she was. She hadn't been injured before passing out, so now it was just thirst and hunger gnawing at her.
Hearing movement, Everett turned around. His deep eyes locked with hers.
Aurora's face flushed. Seeing him still in his suit, perfectly put together, she lowered her gaze.
"Did… did you take care of your wound?"
"Yeah. Bullet's out."
She let out a quiet breath of relief.
"You… took it out yourself?"
The thought of that brutal scene made her blurt the question.
"Now that we're back here, do you really think I'd be that dumb?" Everett raised a brow, but secretly he was pleased—was she worried about him?
Good. Maybe she did have a conscience after all.
Aurora pressed her lips together and hugged the blanket, leaning back against the bed. The image of those bodies on the floor, eyes wide in death, flashed in her mind. She shivered.
