As they approached within fifty kilometers of Piccolo and the others, Vegeta suddenly stopped in mid-air.
"What's the matter, Vegeta?" Nappa asked, noticing that Vegeta had stopped just short of their destination.
"Let's land first," Vegeta commanded in a nearly authoritative tone without providing any further explanation.
"Oh, got it!" Nappa responded, confused but obedient.
Following Vegeta's lead, Nappa quickly descended, and they both landed in a clearing on the plains below.
As Vegeta took in the serene landscape, he couldn't help but feel a slight uplift in his mood. However, he quickly refocused on his task. Without hesitation, he removed his scouter, and under Nappa's puzzled gaze, he crushed it in his hand.
"Vegeta, what are you doing?" Nappa asked instinctively, bewildered by Vegeta's sudden action.
Bang!
Before Vegeta could respond, Nappa's scouter also exploded without warning.
"What the hell is going on?" Nappa shouted, startled by the unexpected explosion, quickly assuming a defensive stance.
"Calm down, Nappa. That was me," Vegeta said nonchalantly, noticing that Nappa hadn't sensed his psychic energy.
"Why would you do that, Vegeta?" Nappa asked, more curious about Vegeta's reasoning than how he did it.
"Why? Because I don't want to be monitored by Frieza and his lackeys anymore," Vegeta replied bluntly.
"Monitored?" Nappa repeated, struggling to understand.
"Do you really think these scouters only allow us to communicate with each other without Frieza being able to listen in?" Vegeta asked, somewhat exasperated with Nappa's simplicity.
"But... why would Lord Frieza want to monitor us?" Nappa said, his confusion deepening.
"Why? Because he's afraid of the power of the Saiyans," Vegeta explained.
"Ah, I see! Haha, that's right, we Saiyans are the mightiest race in the universe!" Nappa laughed heartily, not even considering the contradiction of serving under someone if they were truly the strongest.
"Enough, Nappa. You've been with me for over a decade now, right?" Vegeta suddenly shifted the topic, looking directly at Nappa.
"Yes, Vegeta," Nappa responded, still unsure where Vegeta was going with this.
"Then tell me, do you want to continue following me to the very top, or do you want to die?" Vegeta asked, his tone icy as he unleashed a terrifying, overwhelming aura that bore down on Nappa.
For a brief moment, Nappa felt like he was plunged into a freezing abyss, his blood turning to ice. It took him nearly two minutes to recover, and when he did, he dropped to one knee before Vegeta.
"I want to keep following you to the top!" Nappa declared with conviction.
"Good. Very good. From now on, you must strictly adhere to the rules I set. If you break them, I won't hesitate to end you," Vegeta warned sternly.
"But if you do as I say, I promise your power will reach heights you can't even imagine right now," Vegeta added with a confident smile.
"Yes, Vegeta!" Nappa shouted, his spirit lifted by Vegeta's promise and his unwavering determination.
"First rule: Without my command, you are not to kill any of the ordinary people on this planet, nor are you to cause any unnecessary destruction," Vegeta declared.
"This..." Nappa hesitated, caught off guard by the unexpected rule.
"Is there a problem?" Vegeta asked, his expression darkening, a menacing aura building around him as if he were ready to explode at any moment.
"No, no problem!" Nappa quickly replied, realizing Vegeta's volatile mood and nodding rapidly.
"Second rule: My orders are absolute. From this moment, we are completely severing ties with Frieza's army," Vegeta continued.
"Understood!" This time, Nappa responded immediately, eager to avoid Vegeta's wrath.
"Third rule: From now on, you need to let go of the notion that Saiyans are invincible. You must respect every opponent you face," Vegeta stated.
"Even if their strength seems far inferior to yours, they might possess techniques or abilities that surpass your own. Learning from them could greatly enhance your own power," Vegeta explained.
"I understand!" Nappa quickly nodded again, though Vegeta could tell that Nappa might have heard the rules but wasn't truly taking them to heart.
The pride of a Saiyan is not something easily abandoned, and learning from those weaker than oneself is no easy feat.
