Chapter 296 - Chapter 296

As the task force members entered the pyramid ruins, they immediately began a thorough investigation, documenting everything they encountered. Their findings were transmitted via video to the SCP Foundation, allowing researchers to analyze the data in real time.

"Through the murals and inscriptions within the pyramid, we discovered that Xenomorphs have existed since ancient times. However, it remains unclear how early humans managed to combat these creatures."

"Logically speaking, given the strength of the Xenomorphs, they should have been able to exterminate ancient humans with ease. Yet, it appears they failed to do so. This suggests that humans in ancient times may have possessed some form of power capable of resisting the Xenomorphs."

"We will set this aside as a separate research topic."

"For now, our priority remains the study of the Xenomorphs."

As the Mobile Task Force delved deeper into the pyramid, they encountered a massive Xenomorph attack. The number of enemies ranged from a dozen to over twenty.

Fortunately, the task force was equipped with laser weaponry and electromagnetic railguns—both powerful enough to penetrate Xenomorph exoskeletons. Additionally, their tactical armor was reinforced to withstand tank blasts, making it highly resistant to the Xenomorphs' corrosive acid.

Despite their superior firepower, casualties still occurred. Initially, the task force members were able to kill Xenomorphs head-on with their advanced weapons. However, the creatures quickly adapted, realizing the strength of their opponents' firepower, and switched to stealth-based assassination tactics.

"They used every trick to isolate task force members or ambushed them when they were distracted. As a result, casualties began to rise."

"What was even more terrifying was that the Xenomorphs attempted to seize the task force's laser weaponry and use it against them."

"Incredibly, one Xenomorph actually succeeded. It launched a surprise attack, knocking a soldier to the ground and swiftly snatching up an electromagnetic railgun. Before anyone could react, it fired the weapon, killing several task force members. Fortunately, the remaining soldiers responded quickly, concentrating their fire to eliminate the creature before more damage could be done."

"This incident significantly increased the difficulty of combating the Xenomorphs and forced the task force to exercise extreme caution. They had to maintain firm control over their weapons at all times, ensuring that no Xenomorph could get hold of them. If a soldier died, their weapon had to be retrieved or destroyed immediately."

As the task force pressed deeper into the pyramid, they uncovered more inscriptions and data. The SCP Foundation's researchers worked tirelessly to decode these ancient messages, hoping to extract valuable insights.

At one point, the team encountered an even more formidable Xenomorph variant. Unlike the standard types, these creatures had distinct physical differences. They were stronger, more cunning, and their bodies were covered in sulfuric acid. This meant that their attacks were not only devastating in raw power but also inflicted severe corrosive damage.

"It is possible that these creatures represent a further stage of Xenomorph evolution. Their appearance significantly increased the dangers of the expedition, causing the number of casualties to rise. We had no choice but to deploy additional reinforcements."

Later, the team stumbled upon a peculiar chamber. Inside, they found numerous eggs, each about the size of a soccer ball.

"We suspected that these were Xenomorph eggs."

"As a precaution, the team carefully collected the eggs and transported them back for further research."

However, as soon as the eggs were handed over to the research personnel, something horrifying occurred.

The eggs began to crack open one after another, releasing numerous strange creatures that immediately latched onto the researchers' faces.

The seasoned task force members reacted instantly, opening fire without hesitation. Their accuracy was impeccable—they shot the creatures from the side, avoiding harm to the researchers.

Unfortunately, upon further examination, it was discovered that all the affected researchers were already dead. Their cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation due to crushed throats, along with internal corrosion from sulfuric acid.

"These creatures had extremely long tails, capable of wrapping around a human's neck and snapping it with brute force. It was absolutely disgusting."

"Realizing that something was wrong, we immediately retrieved the researchers' corpses for further study. X-ray scans revealed something shocking—there were developing embryos inside their bodies."

"These findings allowed us to piece together what had just transpired. The creatures had injected embryos into the researchers. This was likely a reproductive mechanism designed to incubate something inside their hosts. We quickly transported the bodies to the lab for closer observation while continuing to study the ancient murals and the remaining eggs, hoping to find more answers."

"Through our research, we finally uncovered the name of these creatures: Facehuggers. They are a specific type of Xenomorph with a singular purpose—to sacrifice themselves in order to implant embryos into suitable hosts. No matter the cost, they are driven by instinct to fulfill this mission."

"Once a Facehugger successfully deposits an embryo into a host, it dies immediately. This is its sole function."

After capturing several live Facehuggers, we conducted further research on their biological mechanisms.

"Our findings revealed that Facehuggers possess a specialized heat-sensing ability. They remain hidden inside their eggs, waiting for a warm-blooded organism to approach. When they detect body heat, they spring out, latching onto the victim's face and using their syringe-like tails to inject an embryo into the throat. They then kill the host, turning the corpse into a nutrient source for the developing Xenomorph."

"Their preferred hosts are mammals, particularly humans. This suggests that human physiology may be especially suitable for Xenomorph incubation."

"As for why no Facehuggers attacked the task force earlier, we suspect it was because their armored suits masked their body heat."

Several hours later, the embryos inside the dead researchers had fully developed. The Xenomorph larvae burst out of the corpses, creating gruesome exit wounds.

"The SCP Foundation immediately captured the newly born Xenomorphs for further experiments. We divided them into two groups—one was provided with a steady supply of food, while the other was left to starve."

"The group with access to food grew at an astonishing rate, quickly developing into the powerful Xenomorphs we were already familiar with. Meanwhile, the starving group could not grow properly. In their desperation, they began attacking and consuming each other. After a brutal battle, only one Xenomorph survived, having devoured its own kind to sustain itself."

"This experiment confirmed our understanding of Xenomorph growth and development. However, one major mystery remained—where did these eggs come from?"

"Our research indicated that the current Xenomorphs lacked any visible reproductive organs, meaning they could not have laid these eggs themselves. This suggests the existence of a specific Xenomorph responsible for reproduction."

"In other words, a Queen."

"This realization led us to a chilling conclusion—deep within the pyramid ruins, a far more terrifying entity likely existed. If we continued our expedition, we might eventually come face-to-face with the Queen."
