Chapter 5 - Muzan takes action

Muzan was staring at a small house; his rage-filled pupils were focused on the first floor's bedroom window.

Someone was in that room right now, and that someone had just splashed water on him. He didn't expect this sudden splash of water; he was wet from head to toe in cold liquid.

"Grrrr."

Muzan growled; his slit, predatory eyes were shaking. This was a sign that Muzan was focused on prey. This was the ability to hyperfocus, and it was something all animals with slit eyes had. Demons were no exception to this rule.

"Do you think you are safe behind that window?"

Muzan grinned exaggeratedly, then started running towards the building. He was fast and had reached the building in a few seconds; he was now about to crash into a brick wall.

But Muzan didn't stop running; instead of crashing headfirst into the wall, he somehow started running up the wall, like gravity had lost its effect on him.

Muzan's physical fitness was so exaggerated that he could do stunts like this in the blink of an eye. In the next few seconds, he had run up the wall and reached the window frame.

_Thud_

_Thud_

"Knock, knock, are you there? Open up."

Muzan knocked on the window panel; his large grin and slit pupils were focused on the closed window. His senses were telling him that there were people hiding behind this iron bar-covered window.

"Do you think these iron bars can stop me?"

Muzan's veiny hands throbbed; he grabbed the iron bars supporting the window frame and squeezed them tight. The metal bars, which were strong enough to support a building, were starting to bend under Muzan's super strength.

"I am almost done; welcome me in!"

_Crack_

In one quick pull, Muzan tore the iron frame off its hinges and threw the deformed piece of metal onto the sidewalk. Ripping the remaining wooden chunks from the broken window, Muzan peeked inside the room.

The room was dark with the lights turned off, but his slit eyes could see things clearly. Muzan was searching for people hiding in this room.

"Found you!"

The demon king grinned murderously; his blood-red eyes had detected traces of activity in this place. A group of people were here just a minute ago.

They probably ran away after seeing him break in through the window, but running was useless. Night was the time of demons, and nobody could escape the demon king.

When the next day came around, the neighborhood was full of chaos. A family of four was found drained of their blood in the living room; the only clue left was a broken window in the bedroom.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for them, the culprit wasn't found, as Muzan had already left the previous night. He was currently staying inside Infinity Castle while rubbing his forehead and talking to Doma.

'Muzan-sama, I have something to report. My people have found the Kamado family; they live on top of Mount Kumotor'i.

'But they refused to cooperate with us; we pretended to be doctors from the city, but their eldest son, Tanjiro, refused to let us in.'

Doma reported while holding a fan over his mouth. Muzan frowned tightly; Doma didn't mind that; he lovingly rubbed a female skull while speaking.

'I had selected two harmless human sisters to approach them, Muzan-sama.'

'But Kamado Tanjiro smelled something off about them; maybe he smelled my scent on them.'

'His nose is very sharp; he reminds me a little of the previous Water Hashira.'

Doma finished his report, and Muzan clenched his fist. Can Tanjiro tell that a human has been close to a demon? Then humans can no longer help him.

But before jumping to conclusions, Muzan still wanted to know if Doma did everything right.

'Those two sisters were good people, right? Maybe Tanjiro smelled their bad intention's.

Muzan wanted to confirm this point; he didn't want his plans to fail for such a simple reason. Doma chuckled and replied with confidence.

'They are two kind sisters, Muzan-sama. Before you called, I was planning on eating them for their failure.'

'But I can wait if you want to inspect them yourself.'

Doma cheerfully sang. Muzan's forehead throbbed, and he tapped his finger on the floor. If the sisters were kind, then there should've been no problem.

Then Tanjiro's nose must have detected Doma's leftover scent on the sisters. The Bliss Sect idea was a failure; it wasn't smart to rely on humans for this anymore.

'Those sisters do not concern me; do with them as you wish, Doma.'

'And tell Nakime the Kamado family's exact address; this time I will visit them myself.'

Muzan clenched his teeth and decided to act by himself; Doma quickly sat up in his seat.

'Muzan Sama, you don't have to dirty your hands; let me do it for you."

Muzan chuckled and cut the connection with Doma. He didn't have the patience to talk to him anymore; he had to pay the Kamado family a visit.

"Seems like important things should be done by yourself. Nakime, open a door directly to the Kamado family's house."

Muzan was hoping he didn't have to do this, but the Kamado family brought this upon themselves by rejecting him.

After he gave his order, Nakime got the exact location of Tanjiro's house from Doma and strung her biwa to activate her blood demon art.

Outside Tanjiro's home, a wooden door appeared out of thin air; the door soon opened, and a handsome man wearing expensive clothes walked out of it.

The weather outside was cloudy today, and the evening sun couldn't touch Muzan. He was standing outside quietly, watching the Kamado family's home.

Maybe his gaze was too cold, or maybe the Kamado family had an innate sixth sense; the window of the small house opened and a pretty girl peeked outside.

"Huh? Who is he? He looks like someone from the city."

Nezuko muttered to herself. When she noticed Muzan was staring at her with a deep smile on his face, she hesitated a little and then decided to go out. Maybe the gentleman was lost and needed some help.
