Outside the house, sunlight draped the earth in a layer of gold. It was early morning, but the brilliant sunrise made one think it was already past nine o'clock. A glance at the clock revealed it was just after seven. The discrepancy between time and sunlight sometimes made people wonder if all the clocks were running late.
Fan Li was loosening the soil for her flowers while Mingyu played by her side, either helping her water the plants or, when she wasn't looking, plucking off a few of the blossoms that had bloomed that day. When she noticed and gently scolded him, he would just grin at her, causing her to smile helplessly as well.
Su Xiaoyue came outside, and upon seeing her, Mingyu immediately threw aside the watering can and bounced over to Su Xiaoyue, exclaiming, "Mommy, good morning."
"Mingyu, good morning," Su Xiaoyue responded, then looked over and called out to Fan Li as well.
