A pulse of malevolent energy rippled outward as his hand rose, and the ground beneath him cracked apart. From the darkness within, jagged tendrils of obsidian burst forth, spearing toward Kaelen and Sylas like ravenous beasts.

Kaelen reacted instantly.
His chained blade snapped forward, glowing with a crimson hue as dark flames wreathed its edge. With a vicious twist of his wrist, the blade coiled and lashed out like a viper, cleaving through the obsidian tendrils mid-air. Shattered fragments fell away, turning into dust before they could hit the ground.
Sylas moved in tandem. His figure blurred in a flash of heat, a blazing arc of fire trailing behind his outstretched palm. With a swift gesture, an infernal crest formed beneath his feet, igniting in a roaring blaze that surged toward Azaroth like a tidal wave of flame.
But the man didn't flinch.
