The black coffin lay there quietly, serene and peaceful. Only the sound of rain surged in the air, and the world had never been so silent.
Jenna thought she had prepared herself mentally, but as she watched the scene before her, her Annie was now eternally at rest, with not a single friend by her side.
This reminded Jenna that, during Annie's brief life, most of her time had been spent in the hospital. Patients, doctors, and nurses became her entire world. She had no opportunity to make friends, no chance to see the outside world; she didn't even have the chance to step outside the boundaries of Missouri.
It shouldn't have been this way. Annie's world should have been so much more.
At this thought, Jenna was overcome with sorrow.
Turning her head hastily, Jenna buried her face in Jeff's shoulder, trying to hide her tears.
